How is the games population? do you think it will last a long time? i am thinking about getting this game, but by the time i get it, it will be christmas, will it still be alive and kicking then?

I think it will be very much alive by Christmas and on.
So far, it's looking pretty good to me, as well.
Many people are expecting Tabula Rasa to do about as well as Auto-Assault. However, Auto Assault lacked that certain something that made MMORPGs worlds feel significant. I have found that certain something in Tabula Rasa. Not everyone will, of course.
It's possible Tabula Rasa's population will diminish a bit after release. This is fairly typical of MMORPGs, really: A surge of population when everybody buys their boxes, then many players drop out and do other things. I'm guessing the developers aren't expecting a massive surge of players, and that's why they only put up 4 servers, and that' s good because it means we won't be stretched too thin when this happens.
At this point, I could see it gaining momentum, but it's hard to make that kind of prediction. Such a thing is based largely on word of mouth. Like any other MMORPG, how much of a following it manages to gather will be based largely on existing players trying to get other people to play. Personally, I would recommend this game to others, but that does not mean everybody else will.
I think the population will pick up as positive reviews, good word of mouth and hopefully a free trial kick in.
The game has zero problems of any significance and will only get better as they add things onto it. It is also very casual friendly and sci-fi, 2 factors that will make it stand out. I think it will catch on, but better games have died.

Looking good so far, I play on Pegasus and I never have trouble getting groups in prime time.
It's hoppin' on Pegasus!
Can't comment on the other servers.
Orion gets to High and Very High pops during the evenings. There's players all around and numerous active pvp and pve clans.
Current Games:
I played on Orion and have settled in on Pegasus and I've never had a problem grabbing a person or two to accomplish something or to share missions. The games new so hard to say what the future holds, but right now I run into other players all the time and I've found the community to be excellent (with the few inevitable exceptions).
I'm on Cassiopeia (probably the lowest population server) and there's sort of a nice mix, really. The #1 Wilderness instance is always "High" population during prime time, and most of the afternoon. The other 5 (there are only 6 instances of "Wilderness" on Cass) are usually at varying levels of "Low" population. That makes it pretty easy to get a team going on the first map instance, and also quite easy to move to a Low pop. instance to do quests that require you to destroy a limited objective (e.g. blowing up 6 egg clusters when there are only 8 to blow up). Though, really, I picked the lowest population server for a reason, so I tend to just sort of wander around in Map Instance 5. It can be a pain to take control points (which are usually Bane-held on said instance), but you don't have that "1000 salmon swimming upstream at the same time" sensation you do in the High pop instances.
