To be honest... I gotta say RF Online because of its awesome gameplay and new innovative, and intriguing storyline. I haven't played Archlord but because Archlord used to be P2P and now it's free to play since a lot of people didn't like it. And I'm not sure about Archlord for the most part because I didn't play it a lot.
Heheh.. that's seriously how I generally describe RF Online. And that's not a bad thing. I happen to play and enjoy L2 and always rather liked the art style of the Phantasy Star games.
Anyway...
That said, I played Archlord - bought a new account before it went F2P. I lasted, maybe, two weeks before I just got bored. It had nice graphics, some interesting environments. I remember thinking the main city for the elves was gorgeous - though wayyyyy too big and spread out. It actually had quests which made it feel a *hair* less grindy than other games of its ilk (basically the L2 mold).
In the end, its bugs and overall lack of... something... kept me from really getting into it. I got to around level 30-something.
As for RF...
I followed RF Online during its dev and played it a bit in beta to see if I could help stomp out any bugs. Well, it was difficult to really do much because of all the others around - made completing even the simplest quest difficult. So... I didn't really stick with it.
Recently, I decided to try it out again, as an alternative to L2, when I'm sitting in Giran selling (which I'm doing alot lately) or just not in the mood for L2. I created a Cora Spiritualist on the Solus server.
In all, RF Online feels much more polished. The world seems more believable. I love the style of the graphics - the characters look great and are animated very very well. The creatures are interesting and diverse; they're well-enough populated and respawn quickly enough to make grinding out quests on them not at all frustrating (for me anyway).
There's alot about the game that I'm still learning and have to explore, which is a good sign to me in any game. So far I'm finding it to be pretty darn enjoyable.
Also, as for the game being sci-fi... you know... I can't see it as straight-up sci-fi. It's more like Sci-Fantasy to me. Anarchy Online (Shadowlands notwithstanding) is pure Sci-Fi to me. Eve Online is. Matrix Online is (well, duh :-p). And so forth. Despite its focus on technology and a mech-type player race, something about RF keeps it from feeling entirely sci-fi to me. And, frankly, that's fine with me. Whatever the mix is.. it works.
So, yeah... my vote is squarely and enthusiastically with RF on this poll. It's an all-around fun MMO, IMO - and I don't mean "good for a free game". I mean "good as a game, period".

I'm not a fan of either, but I've played both of them, and I actually got into Archlord more then I got into RFO. Granted the graphics were pretty bad on both, I didn't have any stability problems on Archlord ( I didn't on RFO either) but runnin around RFO was just kinda boring. I musta ran around for over 2 hours and barely fought a single thing. I saw a few players here and there, but it didn't matter, noone really responded when I spoke to them or anything.
They community (what little of it there was) of AL was alittle better. The game is far from enjoyable, but the fighting is simple, and it's cut and dry. It offers pretty much the same as RFO just it seemed easier to get around, fight monsters, and speak to people.

Hmm.. that's curious.
I find that when I run out of the Cora HQ, or their frontier base, there are mobs all around. There are a few places where the mobs really don't congregate, but I have had no trouble finding things to fight. Heck.. at times it got frantic 'cause I'd have 2 or 3 things on me at once, or another would come wandering over while I was in the middle of fighting.
As for the community - well, I find many MMO communities are hit-or-miss. There are times when I can log into a MMO and it's talk central. Other times, you'd think everyone's a mute. I've landed myself in what seems to be a good and active guild so far and, I guess 'cause they dont' really know me yet, they're not extremely talkative toward me, but certain toward each other.
Still..it is odd about the mob thing.

It could be that I just didn't go to the right area. I didn't really mess with the tutorial much or any of that I kinda jumped right in. Once I was out I did a lot of running, not so much fighting, so maybe I was in the wrong place? Either way it's not that big of a deal, I may consider trying it again, as I only would play it very occasionally.
I havent played RF yet.... mainly because i dislike mechs and anything that resembles a robot. My bro in law loves it though, then again he is a huge mech fan. If you like mechs then RF for you...lol

I find it hard to even belive that you played RF from your comments.
You couldnt find anything to kill, that is totally laughable. Every single entrance/exit out of ALL of the races bases lead directly into hundreds of newbie monsters and i mean literally just outside the gates, so close that they are as good as in the main city.
You claim you must not have gone to the right area..... yeah right, all you do is step outside the city kill those mobs, move down the path kill some higher level ones, go round the corner kill some higher ones until level whatever. Really if you couldnt even manage to do that then i dont think you should even be playing mmorpgs as RF is one of the more simple mmos to play.
To KrazyBlade. What are you going on about only 1 of the races can use mechs and even then its only 1 class in that 1 race that can use them, so no, its not all mechs infact its about 10% mechs if that. The Accretians are not even Mechs they are cyborgs and again they are only 1 race.
To the OP. My vote goes to RF, great game, easy to get into, (unless your maskedweasel) brilliant pvp, good community.

Archlord sucks worse than RFO ever could... and Im not a big fan of either, but I have played both. Niether of them are that spectacular.

Archlord? ROFPMSL...the game simply sucks.
****Think I've said enough****
Hi, I've played both, both are good but RFO is the way to go.
