One of the things I was hoping to see in LotRO was a chance to become involved in larger scale battles. I envisioned periodic waves of npc baddies encroaching on a defended town or keep and all the local players yelling for help. I'd love to see a band/squad/troop/whatever of orcs with a troll in tow appearing out of the woods and harassing the locals. This could perhaps scale up to having multiple bands of baddies join together somewhere (if they made it that far without the players killing them all) and marching against a town somewhere.
I didn't see any of this in beta. Admittedly, perhaps it is already there for higher levels (only got to 20 or so in beta). The encounters felt rather small in scale and not the large epic battles that I was hoping for; thus, I didn't buy/subscribe when the game went live.
It's been a while since release now and I know the game is quite polished and well enjoyed by many. I'm about an hour into a free 7day trial...but my questions are these: Are there such encounters out there as the ones I've described above (besides the LotRO version of pvp)? Are the mobs merely all static/instanced at this point? Are there plans to implement something more grandiose than the small-scale encounters that seem to be the current norm?
Sorry for the long rambling babble...I just want to feel that I won't become bored of the game after a month or so if I do, indeed, subscribe. By the way, I do understand that there's more to the game (and my not becoming bored) than simply the addition of large battles to participate in...this just came into my mind as I was churning through the lower levels in my trial.
Any input?

They are in game, but they seem to be very rare.
Theres lots of small, very crappy assaults on treslebridge that happen fairly often(few orcs run up,get killed by the guards)but theres also a proper invasion where lots of elite ones join in and invade the inner town which come in several waves.
Other than that, theres an epic quest line where you have to defend a bridge against an orc invasion, and another non-instanced quest in angmar where you defend the town from orc witchdoctors.
There was a topic on the US forums not long back after the last big treslebridge invasion if you can find it.
There are some fairly epic engagements to be had but there rare. The region we play in though doesn't usually have major battles though so that didnt dissapoint me. I imagine when Minas Tirath is opened we will get access to some major combat scenarios and that could be a blast Personally though Im just a simple Scholar and farmer. Combat isnt my fortee
I wager those kind of things will be added as the game matures. It certainly was a big aspect of the trilogy and I am sure this fact isnt lost on the devs.

Perhaps I'll stick it out a while after my trial ends...besides, my kids like it - they've created about 20 different characters with bizarre names
I'm not expecting to see this any time soon. The servers can't handle it IMO. 24 man raid quests kill the servers.. Your right, it would be cool to see recruiters for an epic instanced warfare. Have tier 1 to 5 recruiters based on army divisions attacking, for the benefit of the player levels. It would be a blast to be in the Bree Militia for such an event.
it would be awsome if the players would have to work together sort of think by sending archers along the path to wear down the numbers of the invading force and have healers behind the walls for when anyone got hurt. if they did do this it would be very intresting but i hope they would make you be able to build and destroy defences.

PvMP is PvP. This thread is about siege warfare, where AI masses onto key points in the Eriador map and large groups of players converge to repell them.
