PS3 Component cables not working. . .

Hey guys,

So recently I decided to switch my PS3 from HDMI over to component cables. My TV only has 1 HDMI slot and it was needed for something else.

So I went out and bought some PS3 component cables at Best Buy, the only porblem is they don't work. I can't understand why they don't work though. I crrently use a Component YUV Selector switcher for all my component cables (Wii, 360, and now PS3) the Wii and 360 work great on it but I cant get my PS3 to work off it, or the TV. . . I tried plugging the cables directly into the TV but it was a no-go.

Usually I can power through stuff like this but I have been at it for the beter part of an hour and am at my wits end, if you can't tell.

Any help would be great.

Oh and the brand of component cables I got was React, if that means anything at all.

Why don't you just buy an HDMI switch? Newegg has a bunch of them. Scanning Newegg real quickly I see a 2-port HDMI swith for about $50 and a 5-port swith for about $80.

Because I already have a component switcher that works well enough. I'd rather not spend an extra $50 if I can avoid it.

Also my entertainment center is getting a little full to be adding yet another box.

    Nevermind I got it working. . .

I will add, however, that the people who made the PS3 (Sony) are idiots. Whose stupid idea was it to make you go into the menu to select which vid out option you want?

I eventually had to reconnect via my HDMI cable, go into the settings, select Component cables. The screen went black, I put in the cables and there ya have it.

Neither my Xbox, Wii, or HD DVD player requires that kind of crap. All you do is plug in either standard, component, or HDMI and it'll play. . .

Actually.. no you didn't have to do all of that.. if you simply looked at your instruction booklet you would have seen that all you needed to do was hold the power button on the PS3 for 10 seconds or something to reset the connection to the Sony plug thing .. and it would have worked fine.

There is an instruction manual for a reason..

Or rather in the words of the great KJ Ill

    Sony plug thing?

Well what the hell is that Meth? Are you talking about the composite cables? So instead of having to hook my PS3 up to my HDMI again to set the component cables I'd have had to do it with composite? How the hell is that better?

It is a stupid design choice, Meth. None of my other consoles or players require that kind of useless crap. . .

Also, just throwing this out there, I got my PS3 via eBay. I don't have any manuals. . .

Theres only TWO video outs at the back of the PS3.. one the Sony Proprietary port.. and the other is HDMI..

Sony Proprietary port is where the component cables hook up to right (hence Sony PLUG)? AGAIN.. you just hold down the button for a couple seconds to reset the PS3 from hdmi mode to Sony plug mode..

Simpe... oh and all the manuals for the PS3 are online... as Well as accessible from the PS3 itself.. (network - online manuals)

Sold my PS3 for $500. I enjoyed it while I had it, but the games are just not there for me, and not coming anytime soon. Keeping my PSP though, I cant put the damn thing down, FFT:War of the Lions ftw.

You know what is simple Meth? Plugging in the cables, selecting which source output your TV is on and playing a game. Anything beyond that is needless and only further serves to frustrate the consumers.

Every other electronic I have in my house does not require such a needless task, no matter if you did it my way or the way you said right now. It makes no sense. . .

when I try to plug a new device into my router.. I always have to reset my router..

But I understand what you are saying though...

BUT AT THE SAME TIME!! its kind of silly of you to complain about doing a process that wasn't neccessary in the first place wasn't it?

That's like if I said.. flushing the toilet is so tedious since I have to go outside and turn off the water.. then come inside and flush then go outside to turn on the water again so I dont waste any.. Its silly because you were complaining about something that you don't even have to do.. get it?

Just next time know that you just have to hold down the PS button for a couple seconds.. the ps3 will beep 5 times or something and then it resets..

The PS3 is still in my possesion, not getting the money until next Friday, so yes I did download the demo the other day Game, it looks good and interesting, but its not enough to hold my interest (Yes I know its just a demo). GTA5 isnt looking all that great compared to Forza 2, the two new Final Fantasy's are basically on an indefinate hold and could even end up on the 360/Wii/PC, and the constant delay of MGS are all components in making the bore machine.

    damn Naughty Dog..

bah.. I hate how fast incorrect information spreads... its not region locked.. the thing is it was never intended that europeans create a fake US account to dl US demo's so they never tested the demo on a PAL PS3.... its a bug.. and they are fixing it.. Its NOT region locked

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/08/uncharted-drakes-fortune-demo-update/

Unfortunately when attempting to download the demo, our friends in PAL regions or Japan may have encountered a bug in which you are asked to insert a disc. Please ignore this prompt and accept our apologies.

    Hi guys and gals,

We hear you loud and clear. Wanted to chime in here and let you know that we have shared your frustration with the Naughty Dog team and we are going to see what we can do. I will be back tomorrow with an update, but in the meantime I hope you can be patient and bear with us. As you have learned through communicating with Evan and Amy on the blog, Naughty Dog is a studio that listens to gamers, so I hope to have good news for you soon.

    Thanks,

    Sam

oh it is a region lock alright, it just wasn't intended. Although I have my doubts about Sony's words. US demo's work on pal Playstation 3's (Except Uncharted), there is no region lock on the Playstation 3 hardware..how come it doesn't work? As far as I know, the hardware and software on the PS3 is identical on NA and EU versions are identical.

It probably won't get fixed. some sony dude on the US playstation blog promised an update the next day, well it is the next day and no update on Uncharted whatsoever.

It sucks bigtime though. Out of all the demo's sony has released and is going to release, this is the only one I really wanted to play....and it's the only demo I can't play, that's just great.

Edit: Oh, how I love having Sony make me choke on my own words.
