MMORTS: Are there any?

I see that there are several in development, some of which look quite exciting, but I was wondering if there were any MMORTSs (persistant world) already out there? I can think of only one, Project Visitor, which is frankly ruined by the 'pay RL money for an advantage'  revenue concept.

If not, why is this genre so underdeveloped when RTSs in general (and especially in multiplayer) are so popular?

I'm having a hard time imagining what an MMORTS would be like...

I am still a bit confused, is a mmorts like tribalwars.net, and that text stuff, or is it like an actual RTS just in a ongoing world?  If so, can you hit me up with the names of some in development?

the only mmorts that i know of is called Dreamlords or Dreamworld or something like that, and it sux. its pretty much the same idea as all the other ones: you can play for free but your going to die everytime. the main reason that i think that mmorts' dont work is because an rts is meant to not be a persistant world, so all the maechanics would have to be different. heres a piece of advice: if you want an mmorts game just buy one of the C&C games, any of them, and just play online, itll be easier and more enjoyable.

You can say Eve Online is an MMORTS in that there are actually commanders that give orders to many types of ships. I would say the battles are RTS. Although Eve isn't solely an MMORTS game.

Shattered galaxy is the first one that comes to mind for me when it comes to MMORTS. Although someone beat me to the punch. IMO it's a very fun game, but a bit dated. Although it is partially f2p now because of it's age. So I say give it a try.

The core MMORTS can be found on our game lists and the two main betas atm that are 3D MMORTS are Beyond Protocol and Fragmented Galaxy. FG is still alpha but Beyond Protocol is about to enter Closed beta with the date for this being 15th November.  Application in through the site.

TIP OF THE DAY – If you're being chased by a police dog, try not to go through a tunnel, then on to a little seesaw, then jump through a hoop of fire. They're trained for that.
