I'm sorry to inform you, but dx9 has a memory leak too..it's a game coding error and not a Vista problem. They just blame it on Vista, because they can't fix it. I'm just happy that they "fixed"it to the point that I now can play 5 hours straight instead of only 3.
Never had a memory leak problem and I run WinXP Pro with 2g ram. No issues at all. I also run the game on a 7300 gs 256mb on medium settings with no problems either. If some are gettign this problem on DX9 my guess is they are doing something wrong to cause this. Almost all new games run excellent on dx9 with no issues.
When Gears of War ( which blows HG:L, along with most other games, away graphically ) runs smooth as silk on my comp, but HG:L slowly grows into a slideshow, it's not my computers settings.
When I shut down HG:L, my desktop "melts" into existance ( prime example of memory leakage ), whereas all other games pop right out.
Usually after 1-3 hours we have a memory crash here... Maybe, somehow, it is easier to have this issue with 2g+ram I like the game too, but I will wait till the next patch to go on...
I myself have 2g of ram with a nice phat 6g page file, and 3 sometimes up to 5 hours prior to the memory crash. nothing worse then running out of memory and getting the exhausted crash.
To agree with an ealier poster, EA seems to have started on a trend to force games in developement from companies they purchase to release early. at least HGL wasnt made by those Dice freaks that fubared BF2142. However on other games EA pushes them back for who knows what reason, sometimes its for the good of the game, other times its other things (they seem to push back games if they have a major title coming out near same time to avoid competition which they make money either way I suppose). They pushed back the release of Spore which some may or may not have heard of which was originally supposed to be released late 3rd or 4th Q of 07. And according to the guys who are making spore before EA bought them the game was very near completion, probably still is but its now sometime in 08 and they arnt talking much, probably shelf the game to be evil.
Playing: Not much actively. Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001 --------------------------
I had massive problems on my brand new computer (2 weeks old) with vista. Got a core duo 2.67ghz, 4gig ram, and a 8800gts. However, after I installed HGL I began to experiance random bluescreens, more out of game than ingame.
The most common issues where bluescreens when I had my computer on just in desktop, kinda *** since I also just got me a 100/10mbits, not being able to leave computer on at nights for massive downloads suck ^^.
So uninstalled the game, system restored to day 1 but problems kept on going. Really strange tbh, I'm no computer wizz but I'd assume system restore removed whatever driver HGL installed to **** up my gfx drivers (which seemed to be the problem).
After a week or so of MORTAL KOMBAT with Vista I gave in and installed XP ;>. HGL has ram smoothly since, still get the stuck error (thank god for blink) but that's it. It's a decent game, awsome with friends but terrible solo. It's really a game req to have a good friend in vent while playing, the necropolis zone was awsome with us two blasting everything apart.
Point of long post: A decent game, fun in multiplayer in between whatever else you fancy, really needs some major updates and contet patches, some proper pvp and you'll have a real game.
I know it's hard to think that ex-developers from Blizzard could mess up so badly but that doesn't mean handing out blame where there should be none. The game is a re-hash of their older game and they released it buggy and slow. No blame to be placed except on FSS shoulders.
when a game is forced to be released early because the money providers (EA) you cant do the whole "blame the game maker" solely. This has happpened often last year or two. Good game supposed to come out, publishers push for a quick release, game rolls out, gets destroyed by game communities etc. some games never recover from this.
The only blame that can be layed on the Devs is the "Hey jackasses done let a publisher force early game release" unfortunately DeVs need to make money too and they give in to release dates.

I wish they would have chosen another publisher. Don't like EA because most of their games are full of bugs or simply a copy of the last year's games (FIFA, NHL). Too much potential is wasted there because of rushed releases. Their sport games used to be the best, but now they're only getting worse every year like EA's general reputation. Can't blame them because that's how they make fast money, but a big publisher should put more effort into delivering good quality. I think in the long run both EA and the customers would benefit from that.
Talking about Hellgate, I'm using dx9 and got almost through the game (act 5). Never had it crash and it runs smooth, only when there's smoke from exploding barrels or lightning on the screen it starts glitching badly which is annoying.
I only experienced minor bugs so far and really like the game although it could have been even better.

On the same token, you can't blame the publishers everytime devs screw up, either. Just curious, but is there a link perhaps, to show that EA forced Flagship to release early. 'Cause from what I've seen, it was Roper and company who wanted the Halloween release.
I'm not sure really who's to blame on this fiasco of a launch, but one thing is for sure EA are to big and too powerful in the games industry and along with that power unfortunatley comes greed arrogance and total indifference to customers.
I as a Games retailer have had personal experience of EA 's arrogance and indifference to customers, even when your selling their products they are arrogant beyond belief, that all said the failure of Hellgate if it happens may or may not be EA's fault but you can bet your bottom dollar they've had something to do with it.
On a final note I hope Flagship dont become just another company that EA chew up and spit out because in fairness they have made a very good game that given some time could be a contender
theres not many mmo's released when they should be, always way to early for sales, SWG was the buggiest piece of crap right after it was released, took months before SOE fixed it all, but it still managed to be one of the most popular MMO's, then they killed it with the CU and NGE... WoW is another example, i remember that every otehr node you tried to mine in that game you would get hte permaloot bug, but it took them a long time to fix that, and WoW is the most popular MMO of all time. and dont even make me mention vanguard or the matrix online, those games both still have bugs coming out of their butts. (3 of the games i listed were by SOE, jsut shows how much tehy truly suck). dont blame anyone for the early release, it happens with teh majority of mmo's so why woudl it be any different with this one... i can already tell you its probablyg onna happen with WAR and AoC and im still looking forward to both of those games.
I blame the idiots who made the game. It's bad on a fundamental level
Shame really because i really like the idea of a post apoc hellish Earth.
