alas, i have the same problem as you.
All i know is i shoul dbe looking for 256mb or better, but what else should i make sure it has on it? Like level of pixel shading or anything else? Im pretty clueless when it comes to video cards, i feel like they are the hardest thing to shop for.
If you have PCI-E then any of the GeForce 8400, 8500 or 8600's are pretty good value. If you are still on AGP however then you are more limited but this card http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=696878 is DX10 ready and cheap.
From what I've read and seen on benchmarks, the 8800GT is quite good for its price.
In 3 days, the ATI HD3870 will release retailing $200-$250. Also the 8800 GT is good around $270. In lower range cards I would get something modern like a x1850 that retails around $150.

the 8800 series are some of the top video cards you can get right now and they aren't cheap. You're looking at over 200 dollars for a 256 MB card.
First you need to determine if you need an AGP or PCI-Express card. AGP is pretty much a thing of the past, and if your Mother board needs one, then you won't find many high performance cards, and the ones you do find probably won't support DX10.
ATI overall is more affordable, and they really do, do a good job. What I would suggest is going to newegg and browsing the video cards. Search by your price range, and read the user reviews.

If you have any questions concerning your video card, your PC, or the setup let me know I'll be glad to help.
ok thanks for the info, time for a dumb question though, how do i know if im AGP or PCI Express?
The AGP will be shorter then the regular PCI bus slots and it will be brownish in color. Most older machines have only 1 AGP slot, so it shouldn't be too difficult to spot when you open your case.
I Reject your Reality and Substitute it with My Own!
check the make and model of your motherboard and google it.
if your asking these questions then you probably have agp.

i read an article over at anandtech the other day that HIS made a HD 2900pro & XT (hmm.. or maybe it was only a 2600) in AGP format. you won't find any better than that with an AGP slot.
*edit*.. if the slot your graphics card is plugged into on the motherboard is brown, it's an AGP slot. or you can tell in your device manager under display adapters, under the properties of your graphics card it will tell you its' location (AGP or PCI)

The Radeon series (2900 XT) cards that they are out come support DX10, however, you won't find them for under 300 dollars either.

That is a picture of a motherboard. Go two pictures to the right and it shows you what the AGP slot would look like. If you have something different then that, then it would be PCI-E (unless you have a really old board that only has an AGP 1X - 4X slot, if so you need to upgrade before getting a new card)
So after you find this out let us know your price range and we can point you in the right direction.
Get a nvidia geforce 8800GT or Ati radeon hd 6870 / 6850.
there is no system req for age of conan but they have said its about the same as oblivion. but system req don't give a great guide anyhow. depends on how much money you have but you can't go wrong right now a with a 8800GT.
My blog:
Anything less than the performance of an nVIdia 8600 series is going to be a lackluster video card.
Price/performance for ATI is not significantly better than nVidia.
If you are on a budget and are upgrading to play AoC then wait till it comes out. I might be delayed and pc parts prices only drop with time.
