1 GB RAM -.-

K.o.v.eK.o.v.e Member Posts: 227

Well I finally figured out why HGL wont work on my comp and its RAM. I never would have thought this, my computer is 512 MB RAM and I run most games. What im saying is why the hell does it require so much? GW only need 256MB, and its not really looking like HGL is a big graphics power house. Im just kinda pissed, I should have checked the system specs first but I dident think this game would need so much. Anyways I just wanted you guys to know my pain

512MB wow. I have that much in my video cards. I will be upgrading to 4GB in January. It's amazing how fast Computer Technology becomes obsolete.

Jeesh I thought I was kind of the average joe with 512MB. I mean I know WOW is minimum of 1GB and many play it. Oh well time for an upgrade...

1 gig sticks of ram are like $25 these days. Just go to an online retailer and buy one. You'll need it for any of the more recent games.

  • OzmodanOzmodan Member EpicPosts: 9,726

Actually the game does not play well at all with 1gb, it pages horribly with that much memory.  I would think 2gb would be the minimum needed.  I noticed when I ran this game on my 1gb system, many groups would be half done with a instance before I got into it.

So I highly suggest not bothering with multiplayer unless you have 2gb available to you.

Oh and to the above poster, that is a pretty ignorant statement above.  It should be rephrased to be current memory sticks are around $25-$35, most probably his motherboard can't use the faster memory.   If you look at the older slower memory it is much more expensive. Considering he has only 512, it is most probable that his motherboard will not support the faster memory, hence he faces much higher costs.

    I lag like crazy when i zone into a station,thats with 1.5gb.
so 2g + is the baseline.

  • HricaHrica Member UncommonPosts: 1,129

Upgrade. my video cards have 512 memory on them as the preivous poster said. Just open up your computer case, (make sure your grounded) and take out you ram strips. Take them down to ;your local Beat Buy or Circuit city, or any dealer near you and show them. Tell them you want to upgrade to highest amount possible memory for your pc, which since you only have 512, I would assume to be 2g of ram. I bet It won't cost you more than $70-$90.

2gb of ram still gets eaten pretty damn quick with the memory leak the game has ( and it affects XP as well as Vista ). So, 2gb minimum.

if they have 512 of sys. ram chances are the vid card is garbage also....

running on 4G +8800 +vista 64 and all the hardware in the world wont save you from stupid things like getting GLUED to place when you jump in certain places. really sucks when your 3/4 of the way to a destination and you have to start ALL over.

how do people imagine that they can just go out and buy a brand spanking new high end game KNOWING their machines are turds?

    Corsair XMS  DDR2 675  1GB X 2  (2GB total) matched set on Newegg for $54

This is great memory, and achieves 4-4-4-12 timings and 800Mhz (ddr2 pc6400) speed with ease. That is if you choose, and are able to OC it. Depending on your MOBO.   Either way , even stock, this is great memory, designed for gaming and will perform well.

If you want to go with the DDr2 800 ...  the corsair XMS version in 2GB runs less than $100.

Can't go wrong with Corsair IMO.   Most MOBO's will recognize and accept it easily.

I have a 1.8 AMD, 1 Gig RAM, 256 Meg ATI Radeon 9250. Hellgate runs fine, but only on Windows XP with settings on medium.

So 1 Gig should be fine, and cheap to get. I wouldn't upgrade the computer massively unless there's other, bigger games ya want to play. Like Half Life 2 cranked up.

  • SalvatorisSalvatoris Member Posts: 1,360

The game runs good at medium settings with 1 gig.  You should be fine with that, and you should be able to get 1 gig for about 60 bucks.  I know a lot of people are throwing a 25 dollar estimate at you... but if you have 512 of ram, I am going to assume you cant run DDR2, which is about half the price of the ram your machine will take.

  • kjemperkjemper Member Posts: 181

Oh wow, I would figure the average user would use at least 1 gig with the gamer at 2 gigs of ram...  Look at newer games (aka not guild wars) and see what the recommended amount of memory is.  You will almost always see at least 1gig recommended and usually required with 2 gigs recommended.

I'm not suprised at all that hellgate will not function properly with only that low amount of RAM.

OP - 512 just isn't enough these days.  Period.  You need more RAM.

In regards to the quote above, unfortunately there are a ton of people that simply have no clue about their PCs or what it takes to run them AND maintain them (this is true of Macs, too, regardless what Apple says in their ads).  As an example, here's a thread I copied from the official Dungeon Runners boards:

but i know its not my comp casue i just got it and it has AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile processor, ATI Radeon™ Xpress 1100 Series video card, and a 100 gb hard drive.

I'm sorry, but this shows how little you know about computers.

    1) It doesn't matter if you have a brand new computer if the computer isn't that good and your computer isn't that good (especially for games) for anything except schoolwork or surfing.

    2) Radeon Xpress 1100 IS NOT A VIDEO CARD - it's an integrated chipset that shares memory with your system. Regardless of the marketing hype on your brand new PC's packaging, integrated chipsets generally suck for gaming. If you're going to game, you need a dedicated graphics card with it's own dedicated memory.

    3) The hard drive size doesn't really matter, unless you run out of space. The drive speed might matter, however. I'd be willing to bet your drive spins at 5400 RPM. 7200 RPM would be better.

    4) The dual core processor doesn't matter since this game (and many other games, too) doesn't take advantage of the dual cores. Also, you didn't actually state the speed of your processor. If it's a 1.6 GHz processor, for example, then your processor is fairly weak. Since this game is very heavily CPU-bound, that might cause you some grief.

    5) How much memory do you have and how fast is it?

If you paid more than $600 USD for your laptop, I'd be surprised. Here's something comparable for $569:

    Linky...

I'm sorry to say, but with computers, you get what you pay for and you'd paid for something that's not very good. If you pay <$600 for a laptop then you can't reasonably expect to have good game performance for the majority of online games (unless you're playing Flash/Shockwave or Java-based games). This is especially true since most laptops aren't really designed for gaming.

All of that being said, you should be able to play DR, but you will have to experiment with the graphics and sound settings (trying turning sound off, for example) to find the most optimal settings for your system. Try checking out the following link to see if any of these AMD tools will help you (especially the dual core optimizer):

    Linky...

Also, you may need to download ATI Mobility Drivers for your system. That might be a problem, however. According to game.amd.com, the latest mobility drivers don't support the chipsets (and might not support your manufacturer). You may need to use third-party drivers from somebody like omegadrivers.net. If you do install new drivers, I'd very highly recommend that you first clean your system with Driver Cleaner Pro .

I agree, the integrated graphics chip is most likely whats keepin you from playing. 7 series geforce cards are super-cheap now a 7600gt goes for like slightly more than a hundred bucks, and i just bought 4 gigs of ddr2 800 ram for like 160 bucks. It would also be in your best interest to upgrade to at least a gig of ram, which should only cost you around 40 or 50 bucks for a 1gb stick. Your processor is good though.
