What's the population like and is there a way to check on my server?
Does anyone buy and sell AC items and characters, if so what site?

You have to download some third party software to see the population of the server you are on. Verdantine is the least populated server. Darktide is the most populated. The rest are usually fairly close.
I don't know of any sites, but you should be able to find someone in the game to sell you items or a character. It's technically illegal, Turbine is supposed to delete the account if they find out it is not used by the original owner.
