Nice video Teala. It brought back some memories of my tiem spent in thestra and my first character in Kojan. Would have been nice to show Parts of Qalia like Khal and maybe some dangerous parts of Telon. ^_^ But maybe next time. If I ever raise my level 40 Wood Elf Phoenix Shammy from the grave, I'll be sure to look your guild up.

Well...to be honest....I am going to be moving here in a couple of days....job...ugh...anyway...once I get re-settled in my new location I'll be able to make a new movie. Yea! So it'll be about a week if...if...everything goes smoothly with the move.
As I watched your video I noticed again how lifeless the cities are in Vanguard. There is nothing going on at all. An Example: Down at the docks in NT, there is nothing going on there, nada, zip, nothing.
I mean, they could have put in some ships moving in and out with frequencies. That place is a major trade area and should be buzzing with merchants, people selling and trading. Instead its, 5 ppl there doing...
nothing...
And that goes for the rest of the world. The scenery is beautiful out in the wild, but its a dead dead world
I just have to say this to get it off my chest! As I watched your video I noticed again how lifeless the cities are in Vanguard. There is nothing going on at all. Hah, after watching this video I was coming back to post the same thing.
The coutryside looks as good as it used to, but geezz..... it's still such a lifeless world with dead cites. And still no world shadows, etc...
VG is indeed using a very poor engine. After all these months where are the shadows, the water effects & reflections, world particle effects, and where is the LIFE in this world ???
Compare this with lotro which just got some amazing water with the new directx 10 support after only 6 months. When are the VG devs going to pull their fingers out of their backs ?
That's to bad for you two. I just started VG and it seems pretty alive to me. Haven't had any problem finding a group or filling empty spots in the group when someone leaves. OOC chat is so much you almost turn it off.
As for the cities. Those major cities are huge, way bigger than Bree. I don't see many people in the big cities, but I see a lot more in the smaller cities.
I do wish VG had some DX 10 love but the game plays fine for me and I am enjoying playing it at the moment.

I'm not talking about player population. This has always been fine for me.
Yes, the problem is mainly the dead cities. Making the npcs (human npcs) "live" in the world/cities and adding things like birds in the skies would bring this world alive.

Theres as mucn going on in vanguard cities as any game ive play there just spread out more cause the cities are 5 times as big You go through shatt in wow, yup you see the same bored people standing around do nothing everytime you go. I for one am glad people arent so bored that they hang in the cities doing nothing
And as for the game world it needs to be like that you have to get around the world. Myself i dont really feel like been knocked off my horse and killed everywhere i go , You have to seek things out your not going to find world of warcraft style quests where the quest target is standing on a hill 10 feet from the quest giver

standing around bored???? HAHAHHA dude thats funny....most ppl in WoW when they look like they are standing around, they are probably preparing for a raid/dungeon. i play on a maxed out server (full population) and not once have i heard anyone saying they are bored. And there is nothing wrong with the quests....knock WoW all you want, but id take it over VG anyday...

For one example, check out lotro. It's not perfect, but the world is alive.
The npcs "live" in the cities. They are going about their business. They are walking by talking about life/events. They are talking to each other. They are doing things like smoking, cutting wood, etc...
Yes VG cities are big. But that's not the problem; npcs can spawn like mobs; but for life to happen in this world the devs first need to put it in there...

I'm not talking about mobs. Not everything needs to be a huge mob that gives xp.
What I am talking about is "life" in this dead world. Things like npcs going about their business, birds in the skies, small animals (squirrels, rabbits), fish in the water, etc...
I agree that VG needs more environmental life. It is an amazing world they built which is without peer in the industry today and based on what I see on test the performance issues are pretty much gone and the artwork is going up even more.
Now the biggest issue is life! Meaning when I go into a city or a port I'd like to see more NPCs interacting and moving giving the city a feel of being busy and alive. This is a next gen game and I think this kinda dynamic environment is every bit as important as good graphics and art. What I mean is kinda like in eq2 or wow there are npcs that are interacting in game, they wander and talk to each other or shout to anyone who is listening. The NPCs react to you as you walk by. Actually I missed the best game of all which is Tabula Rasa. In Tabula Rasa it is hard to tell NPCs from Players sometimes. NPCs are running around doing stuff, on patrols, fighting bane, and talking.
Environmental things in the wilderness is also lacking. This is an area where eq2 really does well. Thats where you are in a cave and bats go flying out of the cave or you look in the sky and a group or birds are flying or as you run through a bush a flock of birds take off. Oh and the seas, here wow really does the best sea's with eq2 still close. But basically you go into the sea and you see coral, and bubbles, fish and undersea people. The sea's in wow are as interesting as the lands full of interesting art, mobs and dynamic environmentals like schools of fish swiming.
It is the area of dynamic environmentals and npcs that VG is really falling short. The undersea world is an area that is woefully incomplete as well. The few sea plants they added in the water under kahl a week before release are really laughable. Again another area where VG was just released too early and incomplete...
I'm sure that in time they will address these things. I know that SOE does get it on these issues and I agree with their current priorities, fix stability and performance first. Then raids and artwork.

Not a bad vid but me personally prefers qalia to all the islands.
