Inventions

Enjoying the new invention system, sort of, but a bit confused by it. So far I have five random parts and no-recipes, or any way of knowing if the parts I have are going to lead to anything.  My question to anyone that knows the ins and outs of the system:

1. Is it most likely that i have componenets of five diferent random recipes that I haven't seen yet, or do all items that drop in a given level raneg tend to "go together?"

2. In your experince, at very low level (6 atm) is it it better to stockpile componenets, vendor them, or auction them in a consignment house?

3.  What do you know now about the system you wish you knew at level 6?

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Well, you will need to use the market auction unless you are way more patient then me.

I recommend that you keep 1 of everything if possible for now, then start using the auction house slowly to get familiarised with...eventually you may want to sell all comon drops, maybe even the uncommon...or if you want to cash in major money, you can always sell a rare, but then, if you need it later, it will cost major money.

Most recipies are for sell by now at the auction house, so you can see for yourself.

Do not confuse the salvages with the base salvage (useless for an individual, all used for a SG).

The recipies will give you enhancement origin sets, and these sets grant bonus...each bonus can be stacked 5 times.  So if something give 5% bonus, you can get that exact 5% 5 times, from any set...for a total of 25%...if you want more, you will need to check for bonus with different entry as the 5% are capped in this example where you have them 5 times already...but you could get 3% another 5 times...so it would give you, in this example...25% (5 X 5%) + 15% (5 x 3%) for a 40% final bonus.  (SET BONUS, the thing at the bottom)

Mid's hero designer is a good program to mess around and build your character anyway you want and see the final %...if you are a data junkie!

PS: Some salvages are better sold at vendor then at the consignement house, check the prices...also, it is a SLOW bids system, so if you want to sell NOW or buy NOW, it will cost you a lot more then if you let's it wait until you get the price you want.

PPS: UNIQUE recipies are what you want to cheerish.  At low levels, some of the recipies you should crave for are the + regen (regen tissue), the + stealth from a travel power you plan to get, at 20 the + recovery (Miracle set)...and many other UNIQUE.  Some RARE salvages can be nice too, but nothing close to the recipies.  See, the UNIQUE global effect doesn't matter what level you are or they are...so they are very nice to get, no matter your level (but some can't be earned after level 30 unless you examplar down).

PPPS: The set bonus and the effect of the UNIQUE recipies are not affected by your level or the level of the recipie/enhancement.  However, the % an enhancement gives is directly proportional to it level.  This is why I tell you to crave for UNIQUE.  Also, if you examplar later on, some unique could be blocked if you don't have the level to activate the power where you slot it...same goes for set bonuses.

NB: To get a set bonus, you need 2 enhancement of the same set slotted in the SAME power, this will give you the first bonus of the set.  If you get 3 enhancements of the same set slotted in the same power, this will give you the first 2 bonuses of the set...and so on, if you have all the 6 enhancements from the set (some have less), then you get all 5 bonuses from the set (drool).  Each set bonus can be stacked 5 times, so if you get crushing Impact set (some melee stuff), all the 6 enhancements and fills 1 power with it, you get all the set bonuses 1 time, but if you get all these 6 enhancements 5 times each (so 30 enhancements) and slot it completely in 5 attacks, then you get the 5 set bonuses 5 times each (so 25 bonuses!!!).  Crushing Impact give Immobilize resist 2,2% and 1,13% extra hps if you have 3 enhancements in 1 power...if you have these 3 enhancements ALSO in 4 other powers, then the bonuses stack for a whooping 5,65% hps and 11% immobilise resist...a 4th enhancement in 1 power would give a 7% to accuracy...if you repeat that in 5 powers, then it is a 35% bonus to accuracy (this is like a free single-origin accuracy slot in every attack you have).  The 5th is a 5% recharge time (25% bonus recharge time if 5 times) and 2,5% psi resist (12,5% psi resist, this is more then some automatic powers would grant in %...and they never give psi resist, so this is awesome).  Now if you get a 1,13% bonus hps from another set, it wouldn't stack if you have already 5 times crushing impact, but if you get a 1,88% hps bonus (Numina or Miracle set), you can stack it another 5 times...

+ Stealth goes just perfectly in sprint...and no examplar will ever remove that.

That was a good answer. I'll do some smaller bullet points:

    • Lower-level salvage goes in lower recipes. Same for middle- and high-level stuff. But there are a lot of different recipes, so just because you get something now doesn't mean they will match up.
    • Get to figure out the difference between common, uncommon, rare, and very rare salvage. Figure out what the store will pay for it (stores buy salvage). Then check the auction house for that item and look at the last 5 transaction prices. If you can sell for more that what the store will give you, go ahead and list it.
    • Don't be shy about selling. Pick the highest price of the ones you've seen going recently. The DOs you can get at 12 and SOs at 22 are more powerful than most of the inventions dropping around those levels anyway. The real beneficiaries of low-level inventions are people who are on their second (or 70th) character, and want to spend inf from somewhere else to acquire a full rare set of something. So sell to them, it will be better for both of you. If you later decide you want something, you can find more or just buy it from someone else.
    • Run the invention tutorial at level 10 and pay attention. It's not hard to follow, but it has good information. Then start predicting what sets (and what salvage) you will want at what levels. But again, it's more of a high-level than low-level thing.

When IO came out, I wrote this on my SG forum:

An Equal level SO is always 33% for most enhancements. It's always been a rule of thumb that the following will occure:

    SO ~33% >DO ~16%>TO ~8

IO's prior to level 35 are always better then DO but not quite as good as an SO untill you reach level 35. At 35, IO's start to outperform SO.

When your character reaches level 32, I recommend a respec...sell all your slotteed Enhancements and go to the Auction House to buy crafted level 35 IO.

In the long run this is cheaper, you won't have to replace old SO with upgrades.

So, remember level 32 is the spot to respec and 35+ IO are the enhancements that will make it cheaper in the long run.

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
