Hey! I am thinking of making a new melee char, but don't know what to make! Which Midgaard melee class is best in RvR?? Was thinking of trying a zerker....
I haven't played in a while, but had a berserker and found him difficult in PvP because groups of magic-using pansies would waste him before he could even get in range with his axe. Occasionally I'd catch someone solo, but I'd have to say, with the state of the game these days, probably ranged is best.

Not just in DAOC, but in most PvP Based games, ranged just seem to always have an advantage over melee. Its tough to break, since those ranged classes are supposed to front load thier damage at a distance and quickly, but if you reach them they were supposed to be defensless, however many times those ranged DD classes are not defensless at all in close quarters (Not just DAOC but in most MMORPGs).
DAOC does seem to make the imbalance more noticible, since you have keeps, walls , bridges, stairs to traverse.
I'm pretty much a newbie but from my reading of other message boards Midgard melee is still a good option but you will want a Warrior or Thane long term. Warriors and Thanes have access to both chain mail and large shields, you will want to make use of both (shields can block both arrows and mage bolts).
Berserkers get Charge realm ability so It's always a good choice for group pvp. With the upcoming tune to weapon styles I'd say it's a big minus for Valkyrie. Now they can Slam and go behind target and start whacking that Ragnarok, but after 1.91 Ragnarok will be second in chain of styles. Also if you think of the TOA servers you might want to pick up a class that gets Bodyguard ML ability. I think those are Warrior and Thane. Personally I like the heavy (warrior) and light (berserker) tanks more than hybrids. No extra hassle just go in and deal some death.
