World of Warcraft a social phenomenon!

spirus7spirus7 Member UncommonPosts: 142

My opinion is that World of Warcraft has become fashion! From my work to the  cafeterias to  the beach I hear about drops and epic sets! Specifically in ages 17-30 if you do not play Warcraft you are not in fashion eg. " YOU DONT PLAY WOW DUDE??WTF? TRY IT !EVEN MY WIFE,MOM,GF,GRANDMOM,RANDOM WHATEVER.. KNOWS WOW DOHHH".Blizz accomplished to make us speak about WoW even to our sleep!Either we play the game or not.

This and only this is capable of keeping  wow in the first place up to the next blizzard mmorpg.

Id just like to point out that fashion is subjective. Not so long ago, (middle ages) when pheasants were overly tanned and skinny from bein worked so hard, it was popular to be a fat pasty women, as it was a sure sign you were from wealth.

Ive met more people who play world of warcraft then any other game (in real life).  I also play the game and im just going to say that WoW is never fashionable or the cool thing to do.  I dont know where your from, but if the social scene in your area revolves around people playing on their computers, then damn that sucks.  Stay far away from this game, it turns into an addiction.  Just watch the southpark episode "make love not warcraft" and you'll know what i mean.

Oh your from greece.  Well i guess computers are all the rage there huh

  • TheHavokTheHavok Member UncommonPosts: 2,423

Spirus the vast majority of these posters are angry trolls that have egos that rarely match their real life persona.  For being from greece, you have pretty good speech/grammar.

Sorry guessim just aggravated cause allmy real life friends arepissed at me for leaving WoW for EQ2 after 2 years or so. I tried to make a new toon on WoW the other day but after what I have seen on EQ2 starting areas I just couldnt do it. cancelled new account after 2 days of lameness. Try it you might like what you see as it is not the game it one was . this new 4th expansion has really got a lot of people to come back ..all the servers are full now and I havent seen that in EQ2 since right after launch. check out the video here on mmorpg..

EQ2 is the best...Eve Online is better... ok I'llgive it 3rd place simply because it is a great game but social phenomena??? Give me a break....
WEll the Horde is much better as a community as most new players always seem to play Alliance...this is true in most all MMO's BTW
WoW is just a dumbed down version of EQ2 if you want the whole package try that
and if you don't agree i'll kiss your A**
    So sad

Well, I can sympathize to a degree, because I've had friends who began MMO gaming with WoW and after I was bored with it and quit, I could not for the life of me get them onto another game! So I too am a bit pissed off at WoW for stealing them :)

So, OK, this goes to show WoW has excellent design for beginners, but that's not the whole picture.

Take me, for instance: I've been MMO gaming since the very first classics (UO, EQ, AC) and I vividly remember getting annoyed to no end with the many many issues they had... Issues WoW cleverly avoided, and thus felt significantly less of a grind to me when I first stepped into Azeroth (I'm talking about just the 1-60 game here)... So I'd be a hypocrite to deny that it did some good clean & polish job on the popular EQ model at least.

And believe it or not, I know many many people who went right onto WoW from EQ and DAOC and never looked back. It's true WoW needs much more breadth in endgame, but it still does not change the fact that there are all sorts of people among the game's dedicated players, not just the "newbies."

And no, throughout the many guilds I've been part of, I have not met more than a handful of people who were Blizzard fans, either.

Sorry but WoW isnt a social phenomenon,it's more like a social catastrophy.People playing 24/7 just for a piece of virtual cloth and fighting other people on vent for it is not a social breakthrouw but a social breakdown. It's being proven that most of WoW's player base consists of immature old people and kids. You wont likely encounter any mature kids or mature people for that matter, but there are afew mature people on each server, usualy in casual guilds.

Im not bashing WoW but it's the truth, simple, easy and repetive is what WoW is,and that's what most people want atm.

Sayin gyou're not doing something doesn't make it true just like stating something is true most often means it's not as well ;)

    ROFL!!!

Have a go at someone for poor writing by writing "You are writing is bad!" So funny!

Anyway, on the subject in hand i think it is only a social phenomenon in as much as there are a lot of people playing it and it has come at a time where playing video games is more socially acceptable. Now more people have Pc's in their living rooms instead of hidden away in their bedrooms just to do the shopping list on, they tend to talk about the games they play in the same way as they would chat about what they watched on TV last night.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Wow, where do you live?  In my neighborhood, there are a lot of WoW players, but they stick to their own social groups.  Outside of their groups WoW is "gay, stupid and for nerds".  We need to fix closedmindedness.

    LOL Barrens/Trade channel FTL

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

The popularity of WoW has made MMORPgs more mainstream. Online playing to this point has been thought of as 4 guys playing halo on an Xbox...now its much more than that.
