It shows that the annimations and the spell effects still need some work.
Sadly the crowd over at gametrailers doe not recognise a good game.... all they want is crysis level of graphics, where gameplay does not matter.
Why not good gfx and good game play? I mean I didnt spend all that cash on my rig to play something that looks Eq 1. Not saying that this game does but rather saying that people want nice gfx for a reason. Just as special effects in movies evolve so should gfx in games.
I can live with the effects -- not great, but waaaaay better than Vanguard at launch.
But those animations? YUCK. I really hope they teach their avatars not to skate around so much. That is the dopiest looking combat I've seen in a long time.
The world looks good, but then most games these days do manage at least that much.

They are still fine tuning the player movement speed. As long as they have not made speed final they are not adapting the animation to it, and therefore you will see this skating in beta footage. As you will see many other things that are not finalized yet in videos from beta.
Is this game using a very old engine like the original unreal engine or something?
That video started out looking pretty good until i saw the HORRIBLE looking battle sequences. It looks like a korean cheap F2P game. The animations looked like those fast animations in the korean games ,where looks like 3 ani frames make up a sword swing.
The screenshots had me thinking terrible mapping work also but that video looked alot better.I know from other experiences some screens and videos don't always do proper justice. However i still can't get over those battles in the video just bad, bad, bad. The character animations are very weak, also they tend to be running with there arm in the same stance the whole time, never showing realistic movement.Hate to say it but i would fire there animation team, and get some people with better skills.Or did they purposely keep the whole poly count down to keep systems from lagging?i really can't wait to possibly hear some feedback from the spellborn team as to why they chose to look like a korean grindfest in there animations.
LMAO very sorry ,but i got as far as the first post of the video before i made my post.I then went on to read the other posts after i made mine and was very surprised everyone eluded to the animations.I thought i was the only one that paid attn. to detail [lol],but it seems pretty unaminous from the posters that the animations are brutal...really too bad,it may make or break this game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Well, its a bit outdated , thye are using Unreal 2.5 (Heavilly modified)
But the movement annimations are not final yet.... these annimations will be a lot better at release. They decided to do the final annimations as llate as possible, as it would be a loss of time if they did annimations for something that would not make the final game...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Yeah the animations look crap. I believe they are doing it for a reason though, the current animations are just placeholders due to them constantly changing speeds of attack, movement etc. Since the game is evolved around aiming, dodging etc the animations have to correspond with the movement of the character, speed of attack otherwise you will not be able to judge correctly when to dodge, whether or not you have hit the opponent and so on.
Most likely they will start putting the final animations in during the end of a closed beta, and after the open beta before they release.

They seem to appreciate WoW and that has very old graphics.
Every site HAS to appreciate WoW, otherwise they get the cold shoulder from the MMO 900lb gorilla. Noone would dispute WoW's art direction, but to say it's engine is nice in the modern world is silly.

I agree on everything you said. Speccialy about the crysis graphics being amazing, but the gameplay being less fun than stepping in a pile of dogshit.
