Why so little coverage on FFXI

Ive always wondered why mmorpg.com does so little coverage on FFXI.
FFXI has more suscribers than many of the other mmorpg on this site and still gets little to none coverage.
Sorry, if my english is bad, im still learning it.
btw, today is the release date of WotG.

to be perfectly honest (i have played the game)...its a pretty old game. many games just blow it out of the water now days.
all credit to those that play and the developers for keeping it running but i think its gonna stay as a low subscriber game that ticks along for anyone who is interested
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
I dunno, it kicks the crap out of a lot of the terrible stuff we get here, it just seems like it alienated a lot of people with the grind and grouping. I have it, I just don't get to play it a lot, it's not very casual friendly.

mmorpgchart data is a bit old, but the 7th Vana'diel Census is from this year.
From those 500k suscribers, ill say about 200k are US and EU accounts (the rest are mostly JP).

wow is a newbie friendly simple pile of crap that shifts out fake numbers and can run its half ass graphics on any system. FFXI is a crap load better looking, its just not solo and casual play friendly like most other MMO clones on the marke t today, it fits to a much smaller group of players, but its got alot for how it is, i played for a long time and its a great game, just go to ffxi.allakhazam.com or playonline.com for info

And a lot of Asian game have WAY more then that...you know what lets only report about them becouse they have lots more poeple. Anyhow not sure what you getting at? Everyone knows WoW has an insane numbers of subs.
Also the reason they do not report on FFXI is most likely becouse there is not a lot to report on. Many game don't get into the news that often. Some Publishers are smart an release some artikel every week/month and that will be taken over by websites like these. Infact FFXI has been in the news a lot recently, more then average compared to the games on your right
I would venture a guess that there's been little news to report....... the game continues onward and people keep playing it...... with a minimum of drama it would appear......

I was thinking the same thing when I saw they were releasing an expansion. FFXI has more subscribers than EQ2 or EQ1 yet we see press release after press release posted as news on this site for SOE.
I believe that FFX1 gets about as much coverage as any MMORPG in that tier of MMORPG. Like EQ, DAOC, AC etc. It still has players, it still is a decent game. However, sites like this have to keep up with "whats new' and "whats now" in order to survive. One of the reasons it highlights a lot of the upcoming games and conversations in regards to WAR, AoC , Jumpgate, etc...is because that gets a lot of attention ..and attention is more $$ for advertising.

I know WoW has more than 9 millon suscribers. I also know L1 and L2 have more than 1 or 2 millions each, but thats not what im talking about.
What im saying is that FFXI has more suscribers than the 80% of the games in the Released Games list (yes, more than EQ1, EQ2, UO, RFO, SGW to name a few) but gets little to no coverage
Maybe FFXI's devs/publishers just need to work on their PR and write press releases...
I for one would like to know about the graphic upgrade and if it will add some eyecandy to the game.
While you've been busy slamming me, I've done a bit of research on the SE's official FFXI and MMORPG.com. As far as I can see, every time SE has a news update, guess what, MMORPG.com reports that news update. Bottom line, if FFXI needs/wants more press coverage around here, maybe SE should hype their game a bit more. And don't worry, if you don't see their new expansion posted today, it will be shortly. They are not every quick with their news but usually get it within a week. Don't believe me? Ask AmazingAvery. He doesn't like how AoC doesn't get same day coverage for AoC either.

I understand that.
But if you compare the coverage that games like UO and EQ gets youll see that its alot more than the one FFXI gets.
Also, its not like FFXI has nothing to report. Today is the release of "Wings of the Goddess" expansion, a few days ago there was a big version update, a few weeks ago there was a fan festival. Almost every week there is info release on new events or special info.
And to avoid any fights, im not saying FFXI is better that UO, EQ or any other game
Perhaps Squaresoft doesn't pay MMOORPG.com the money that companies like Sony and others do to advertize thier games. I'm pretty sure that these companies pay for the advertizements to
Maybee FFXI doesant need the same level of aadvertising other MMO's need.
Also the graphics are pretty poor and the controlls are awkward compared to standard MMO controlls.

Who gives a crap how many subscribers WoW has. I guess it just wasnt put out on the FFXI board recently. The OP didnt say FFXI had alot more subscribers then WoW but alot more then some that get talked about on MMORPG.com. We all know that WoW is the King (at least in the number of people that play it, not really anything else) so you can stop preaching it now.
But to answer the question probably because it is getting a bit old. It is a very difficult game by todays standards so the new influx of players probably arent interested in it. I never played FFXI but i group it in with the big ones of old so i feel your pain (FFXI had to many Pokemon looking critters for my taste)
Yea, I agree.. FFXI was great when first came out, but Square ruined that game.. And the world has no real color to it at all.. Looks like someone threw up on it.. Sorry don't mean to start any fights/
And you still can't get tells when you zone.. I mean all MMOs have that and that is annoying. A little patch would fix that..
That site shows EQ2 below 500k that is hard of hard to believe.. I would think EQ2 would have more. Also knowing Square if MMORPG. reported any news on it.. Square would find a reason to sue, lol.

I never understand why you people jump in the FFXI forum and start bashing the game "poor graphic?" "poor controller?"
This game is 5 years ago and still people Feel it beats many game in term of graphic.
Poor control? What are you eating? this game have 3 type of control 2 type for keyboard and hand-handle controller itself.
I am sure whoever said this never even play FFXI, just another idiot ran into this forum and say "this game sucks come play my game"
and never bash about the graphic of this game, you are dealing with sqaure enix here who made the best graphic in term of any modern game. Its all because limitation of ps2 FFXI never can get an update un graphic. If you want to bash about it go to a ps2 forum.
And to answer OP's question. MMORPG.com is relative small in community for SE to even brother interaction with them. Consider they cover a large scale of games. Even other gaming magazine does not get to meet with "the team itself" meanwhile the mod and editor in mmorpg.com might not even want to cover anything as these are "resquested" e-mails.
That is why they get more EvE coverage over anything else because "Eve fan" e-mail alot to these editor.

Plus it was very annoying when I hit a button like + ((my push to talk for years on TS)) I starting typing in chat. I had to redo not probile.. But the way that was set was annoying, you can't get tells or see Link says when you zone..
No Square didn't make the best graphic for any modern game.. That was in NES-SNES games but now.. They make great gfx best but the best? lolz..
Sqaure let FFXI die, IMO it was great game for like 1-2 years before it went to hell..

FFXI's graphics are decent, aaaaand have extremely low system rqs.
Though its an old game it was beyond its time in my opinion, hence it keeping up with so many of the current mmos in subscribers... well... not WoW.
Isnt it obvious? FFXI doesnt pay mmorpg.com money to advertise, so they dont get any coverage. Simple. Truth.
that's simply not true, look at the top 10 current article on mmorpg.com i can identify 3 right off the bat: everquest, lineage2, eve online - all are old games. It's because all those games pay mmorpg.com advertising money. So they get coverage.If square-enix put up a banner ad here, i guarentee you will start seeing articles at least once a month about ffxi.
Maybe you should deactivate your ad-blocker? They do, or just did, have a giant ad.

I don't know when you played but if you didn't know. Ps2 version was out like half a year before the PC version in Japan.
This game is BASED on the limitation of ps2. SE developper said so in the interviews in fan festival every year. Some people ask "Will FFXI ever get an updated graphic" , se always answer, "we must always keep look out on the ps2 limitation and xbox 360, hence we can't"
I don't know about you but do you ever play FF series? Can't you tell me that seriously FF7, FF8, FF10 and FF12 does not have the graphic (and what you define graphic? having more polygon? or faster speed?) beyond modern RPG on the market? (i am not talking about beyond ps2 platform here).
The art works of SE are amazingly enough, do you even play FF at all? For your information, they did update the engine in xbox360, FFXI look alot more render in xbox360 over ps2. the game itself was smoother. And what you expecting?
Also i don't know about you but "+" doesn't do crap for me :P You can use it for ventrilo or teamspeak whatever.
Maybe its the "race" distinguish what we like in term of visual. I like great details and smooth while you love "box of polygon top another"

Although SE does not seem to interact with MMORPG.com, I can almost guarantee you that SE pays attention to MMORPG.com community - however small you may think it is!
