I am happy for the folks that enjoy SWG.

But I am afraid I am going to have to decline your offer.  Its no longer a Star Wars game.

You, guys, who are saying game is dieing and there is no new players and so on - go ahead and log on to ahazi, b'fin or bria just for a sec and check it out yourself. Stop repeating these mantras, it's always better to use your own experience, same in rl.
And to responce to obvously forthcoming flaming - no, I'm not NGE fanboi, I'm NGE hater, look at my history. Just IMHO there are some almost political slogans everyone keep repeating on these and other boards between us, pre-cu exiles, which have grown too old and not even close to the truth already.

The game isn't dying, it's already dead.  Unless they drop to 3-4 servers they can't even keep it going as a small POS on the station pass.

If jedi , bounty hunters, speeders, and tatooine doesn't define a star wars game, what does?

Those things were there in the past but still it was criticised for not feeling like Star Wars. Those things are there today and still it does not feel like a Star Wars game.

I doubt very much that this game will ever get that Star Wars feel.

The game has always been star-wars and will always been star-wars as long as It's called star-wars.

but just cause its named Star Wars doesnt mean it FEELS Star Wars. The immersion is far from what it should be. I would not recommend someone to pick up SWG. Certainly not now Bioware + LA are gonna make something together

Planetside should have died ages ago, but like you said, it's a small POS on the station pass, the station pass is what keeps the dying or already dead game still alive- MxO is also another major flop.

I expect SWG server consolidation after chapter 9 or so, Planetside started off with 6 servers and merged 4 of them after 5 months but now it's 3 servers and even on the highest populated server it's a ghost town until weekends.

On the one hand, I hope they make a new SW MMO, one that is worthy of the franchise. And yet, on the other hand, I hope they don't, because 1) I will want to play it constantly and 2) With my luck, the system requirements will be beyond my computer's ability and consequently I'll need a new computer.

The game is still effectively in beta, it is ok to be making minor tweekes to a game years after it comes out . When you make sweeping ones every 6 months to a year and even after a giant bug bash still have things vary broken you are asking people to pay to play a game thats effectively in beta and i find that unexusable.

I have seen so much Hate against SOE over the NGE change to SWG and yes they deserved it but lets be honest here I tried other MMO's and played EQ2 for 1.5 years, burnt me out but EQ2 is a good game. But my first MMO SWG spoiled me to the others but. I came back in chpt 5 to try SWG and since chapter 5 the game is much improved. Let me list the improvements.
    1. Combat is challengeing again you can't solo a Boss at least most of us can't. AutoAiming and AutoTarget is back. I feel the game is at the CU level for hunting and questing again. You can get a mod for the old interface, I have :P
Again, I must ask- If the game is so improved, why do you need a third-party UI mod?

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.  Please continue.

LOL! yes I'm sure that's why the "Star Wars: Teras Kasi Masters" fighting game is so popular too right? It "feels Star Warsy and Iconic"?

    Why re-sub to SWG?

The things I did in SWG before I quit:

    Log in then...

Chat up guildmates that are online.  I belong(ed) to one of the oldest and most respected guilds on the server.  The guild used to be full of folks.... easy to get a group to go do this or that and ALWAYS something happening.  Now, there are maybe 5 people that log in on a semi-regular basis.  Most of the time, there are maybe 1-2 people on... that's it.  (this is the 3rd guild I've been in.  guild 1/dead to CU.  guild 2/dead to NGE.  guild 3/last gasps before the long goodnight)

Chat up players that are on my 'friends list'.  Out of 100+ names on the friends list (not including guildmates), I can usually find 3 or less online at a given time.  (the list was revised shortly after the CU and again after the NGE... so this isn't some legacy list we're talking about)

Planet hop to look for action.  Hit all the starports in all the old hot spots.  Mos Eisley is the only place with any type of real 'crowd'.  And that crowd is largely made up of gold-farmers or vendor-bots for in-game stores.  The cantina has folks in there, too.  (every other place is a 'ghost town' unless it's Restuss or Mos Eis)

Look for PvP.  Restuss.  The end.   The 3 'static' PvP bases don't bring any real PvP anymore.  You may run into one person while you flip the base and grab stims or something. The other option... set up an event? Who wants to wait for some scheduled event?  Not I.  Once a week or month?  No thanks.  Guild war?  Not enough guilds left to really do much of anything... so we had to do a 'server' war.

So.. let's PvE.  Okay... I used to hit the DeathWatch Bunker, Sher'kar, or farm Nightsisters during my first runs with the NGE.  Oh yeah... the system was revised again and no longer really lets you solo like that.  HEY, there are new collectors quests and ..... wait, now we're not geared for this, even if it is supposed to be solo-able.

Let's check out our inventory in my museum houses.  Oh... the generations and generations of gear that is no longer worth anything other than a memorial.  I realize transition happens in all games... but most of the changes in SWG weren't centered around expansions.  The changes were centered around ... uh... senseless change without warrant or any real noteable return to the player community.

    ...

I'm not even touching on issues that I may have with the UI, lack of combat animations, or bugs.  Those are a 'given' in SWG-NGE.

    ...

Maybe most of the issues that I listed could be resolved by being on a more populated server?  Well... I'm not going to start from scratch on a new server.  No thanks.  And, I'm also not going to pay SWG to move my toons from a 'dead' server to a server that has a pulse.

    So... why come back again?

I resubbed for a month to check it out and here is what I saw.

Most servers are dead except Bria, Starsider and Bloodfin.  When I say dead I mean less than 100 people on them Friday evening or Saturday afternoon.  I played on Tarq on Naboo and went to every city on a saturday afternoon and found only 3 other people.  I went to Tat and found a total of 19.  Some planets had no one on them.

On the populated servers more than half the people I encountered were high level Jedi.  There were jedi fights in the city every time I went to the bank.  This isnt a big issue but it drives me nuts that most of the people you see are jedi and openly fighting in the streets.  If the movies were like the game then everyone in the first three movies would be a jedi except for R2-D2 and Uncle Owen.

I dont know if the housing thing fixed this but there were houses everywhere of players who left years ago.  Finding a stocked vendor was almost impossible.

Most people who play now have loads of inventory.  You will have a tough time starting a crafter since no one needs your stuff.  Since most are Jedi it is hard to sell armor and guns to them as well.

On the other hand I liked the scripted missions leading you into the level 30's.  Those were fun and a nice idea.

I cant play on Tarq where all my things are since there is almost no one on the server.  I played a bit on bloodfin but I'm a crafter and who wants to grind out to master when most people have everything they will ever need ingame and I cant really make anything for a Jedi to use.

If you want to play Jedi Wars then this could be your game.
