    Since this thread is here.

Is there any Physics in the game? Ability to jump, etc.
    WASD, click or both?
How is the content or is it all just pretty graphics for show?

Someone who plays DAoC, EQ, or WOW wouldn't really know about Perfect World considering its a chinese game not even imported to the US yet.  I would hold off on any import until it actually is hosted within the US for lags sake.

Graphics are typical chinese style for video games. However, the game offers a very very wide array of character customization.  Ontop of this there is a heavy usage of quests, and there is flying as well as many many social elements.  I heard you can also import your own textures to really custom make your character.  In fact, its a f2p game with more development going into it then p2p games.

The game is definetly worth a try, but I would wait until it hits US soil.

I would say it is one of the best item shop games at the moment. Perfect World is in asia compareable to the success to worldofwarcraft, almost 30 million people play perfect world due to some infos i got on the i-net.

If you want to have a mage - warrior - hunter classic mmorpg with pvp content - go for it, it offers a bit more than average item shop games. Pvp style is a bit different, the dmg output in pvp is half in comparison to pve. The quality and content tops other item shop games for sure, you have even flying mounts in this game its quiete cool. But dont expect anythin really new, its just a mob grind b u t with lots of quests and territorial pvp which is really nice. It is not free to play it is an item shop game btw, which gives advantages of course in gameplay.

The current version, which finally opened up open beta last night, is the international (aka english) version of the game.

The graphics, are quite amazing for a F2P (Some people don't get the concept of turning up graphics. So a lot of people seem to think the graphics are bad. The game pays attention to your computer specs, and automatically recommends settings for you to play on. Though of course, you can change them, but some things it locks up, most likely so you don't activate it and lag like crazy).

Then we have the in depth customization system of your characters.

Flight, is a nice part of this game. The wingkin get wings from the start which they can use to fly around. The other races get the ability to fly at i believe level 30 or so.

The PVP is also pretty nice, and I forget what level, but it's pretty high, you choose good or evil and get some special skill to go along with it.

There is also player housing (Not now, and i doubt it will be in the game for a very long time, but it's there) which is pretty neat to see a F2P game have.

There are a lot of things to like about this game, and it's quite easy to level due to the mass amount of quests. The quests start to die down slightly around 40-45 but it's still good.

I play on Delphi, the IGN is Toasty if anyone wants to ask me about anything in the game. Though, make sure you PM me on this site so I know why you are even messaging me.

I would say it's really fun. In the closed Beta I was a Wingelf who used both dual-swords at close range and bows for long-range. Though attack-flee-attack patterns with the bow are discouraged, as the monsters health regenerates if your not targeting them, or on the same level as them. Pretty much if they can't hit you back it's gonna be alot tougher to kill.

well.. it is a good game i would say.. you get stats every level.. and you get to choose which skill you want to learn(almost like lineage2)

wsad and mouse click movement, you could jump anywhere.. on roof.. or even climb some tree... you could jump up to the building like those asian kung fu movie.. really cool =)

there is two probelm with the game..

1st the game map is very big,and it take very long to get to know the game well..

2nd there is no US server T_T

I don't think that having a large map is a con in any sense, especially considering the lands provide nice things to look at as you're flying or traveling through it all, plus there is a great teleport system for quick traveling.

The ping to the Malaysian servers can be horrid at times, but generally stays at around 250-300 ping I would say, which is not that bad, and at times seems to be around 150-barely 200.

Fantastic game that anybody who plays WoW would definitely appreciate, and I'm not just targetting that crowd. Lineage 2 players should rejoice over this game, as it's FFA PvP and PKing @ level 30 and higher. The clan vs clan and area management/conquering is fantastic, so check it out. And yes, the leveling is ridiculously easy and you feel rewarded every single time you complete a quest. Grinding is not the greatest thing to do in the beginning, but grinding for resources on monsters was, for some reason, not a chore to me. As a matter of fact I just talked on voice chat with my buddy and farmed for about 2-3 hours and were able to craft full suits of armor, jewels, and weapons for the both of us.

And might I say - The water in this game is the best of any game's water, bar none, hands down, etc etc. Crysis is great and so is UT3 on max settings, but to me... The water and HDR of the moon and sun are just ridiculously awesome. Also make sure to turn on forced Anti-Aliasing so that you can get HDR as well as AA, which makes the game look way too smooth.

in addition to the post above:

+ PW will have player housing - check youtube for videos and such.

Also, it is not easy to lvl in PW .. It might seem to be abit easy in the beginning, but when u get to higher lvls, then there will be AOE parties and things that keep u going. The amount of quests u get will decrease as u hit higher lvls.

When I tried it a month or so ago, you could not change the keybindings - they were fixed to the standard WASD setting... I wonder: is it still that way?

That was a major problem for me, because I don't use QWERTY layout keyboards.

  • dozer002dozer002 Member Posts: 37

i dont think u can change WASD .. maybe u can now, havent checked..

    But, use ur mouse :)

Yes WASD is usable you just need to go into the setup and check the box labeled "A and D Turning" to activate it. Otherwise A and D walk left and right instead of turning your character.

To all those asking if Perfect World is any good I have this to say.........For me it's an excellent game but for you?....only you know that answer. You really need to download it and try it for yourself to answer your question as none of us have your insight as to what makes a good game for you.

I've played this game since the CBT phase (it's now OB) and I really like this game. There's still a few kinks to iron out, and localization hurdles aplenty, but with some polish, this is be THE F2P MMO to play. You could spend an hour easy just tweaking your toons appearance alone, something virtually nonexistant in most Asian MMOs. And with the more and more upcoming features, there will be a lot for people to get jazzed about.

My advice is to definitely give it a shot, but please: Keep in mind this is a OPEN BETA. Don't be so hasty to judge what is essentially an unfinished product.

Currently, I'm playing Rappelz and am having a fantastic time. However I keep hearing a buzz about how PW is better. Besides the ability to fly, what separates PW from Rappelz, and how/why is it better?

PW is so much better in so many ways. Compared to PW, Rappelz is a small limited game. It's a completely different dimension of gaming.

PW is Lineage 2 + WoW (+ features from other mmos) and you mix everything together. The game plays like Lineage 2, there is  a questing system with more than 5000 quests with a feeling of WoW (you can grind if you want, but the fastest way to level is quests), there is free flight, crafting, battles in land/sea/air, housing, territorial wars and territorial ownerships, etc...

Of course the world is not as huge as Wow or EQ2 yet, but it's growing.

When I fist started playing the game in the first levels I wasn't impressed, but after the first couple days I adapted to the chinese art and now like it very much. The more I play the more the beauty of this world and the game open up. This game is so polished, one of the most beautiful water effects of any mmos for instance.

It's the first time since I played Lineage 2 that I want to level my toon (i.ex lotro and vanguard were so boring for me I left both at around lvl 18).

This game is on paar with the best pay2play mmorpgs. Period. I have much more fun playing PW than Lotro or Vanguard (not even talking about the other games).

Check the features list yourself in the wiki here: pw-wiki.onlinewelten.com/Features.ashx

I also played Rappelz before playing Perfect World, and though I enjoyed my time with Rappelz, there's just really no comparison between the two games. PW beats it out, hands down.

There's the graphics, which are simply beautiful to behold. Landscapes are lush, and the water effects are the best I've seen in a game since Guild Wars. You'll look at this game and be amazed at the fact that it's a F2P.

In Rappelz, character creation involved picking from the limited number of character models the game gave you to choose from. Perfect World gives you an almost infinite amount of customizing options. You could literally spend an hour tweaking your features. The chances of you running into your clone on PW are much less likely than in Rappelz.

Crafting. In PW you have the option to take on the profession of pharmacist, blacksmith, jeweler, and tailor, and create some awesome (and useful) items to sell or use. In Rappelz....well...you don't.

Rappelz and PW both have quest you can take up and finish for experience and money. But PW's quests are a little more diversified and often stray from the "kill X amount of Y" quests Rappelz has you doing.

Lastly, PW seems to be a more polished product than does Rappelz. Rappelz, in my opinion, seems to want to be Lineage 2, but can't quite pull it off. Perfect World seems to be more fresh and original. You won't feel like you're playing the K-Mart knock off of a more popular, P2P game.

Those are just a few of the finer points. In no way am I knocking Rappelz. It's a good game, and probably one of the better F2Ps out there. But as stated in the beginning, there's just no comparing the two games. Perfect World, right now, is the F2P MMO out there.

Thanks guys, it definitely sounds like there's no comparison! I love crafting so I'm sold right there. It's time for me to jump in and check out for myself!

If you download the file via torrent (the first option in the download list) you get pause/resume, and the download was also faster for me.

(keep in mind that to download the torrent you need a torrent manager like utorrent or azureus).
