I think he was saying that they have similarities...not just races hence the 'and all' bit.
Personally, I would say EQ2...couldn't quite seem to get into VG but in fairness, because of this I didn't really experience much of the game which I have heard is actually quite decent.
EQ2 is much easier to get into. I may give VG a second go though because on paper it's a better game to me...not as linear as EQ2.

I was recently deciding between the two as well. In all honesty, I'd suggest Everquest 2. I've never played it, but it has a lot going for it from the looks of it. Seems to be a very complete and polished game. Vanguard on the other hand, while it has improved A LOT since release, is still fairly buggy, and seemingly incomplete. Still, VG has a lot of depth to it... You just have to be able to put up with a lot in order to get deep into the game.
So, I'd say EQ 2 is probably better overall. That being said, I'm playing Vanguard right now. Don't know why, I just am... and I love the game.
Vanguard, still a little buggy but a better game. Play a Ranger, they're pretty badass. Then again, all MMO's are clones of each other at the moment anyways so, I guess is really doesn't matter.
I tried to get into EQII a couple of times, and it just isn't fun to me. Smallish zones and I hate the graphics, especially on the avatars. They all look ugly to me.
Vanguard sucked when it first came out, but it's improved quite a bit since then. It still has some issues (although nothing game breaking), and in my opinion, it's the better game of the two.
Coming from someone who has played both for a minimum of three months... despite everything my vote would be for Vanguard.
EQ2 for me just felt more constricting to its linear format while Vanguard gave you more freedom to roam, craft, harvest, etc. I also prefere VG's graphics to EQ2's, the landscapes just felt more immersive than what I ran through in EQ. Vanguard has its bugs, performance issues and so on, but even faced with all that I had more fun playing VG in 3 months than I did with my years length of play time in Norrath.
Vanguard used to be buggy but is not so anymore i have been playing for almost 3 weeks now, i have encounter just one or two trivial bugs in this time.
Both games have well thought out classes and quite a few races, both games have good graphics(high demanding).
I would say EQ2 has much more content at this time (with all its expansions) but starting from scratch this won't make much difference to you.
I personaly went for Vanguard and i am enjoying so much more than i did EQ2.

do the amount of races in an mmo = better game to you?
