Good Day,
I am not one to usually post here about much, but this is one time I felt I wanted to offer my opinion of Tabula Rasa. First I would like to state a little of my MMO Experience. I started in Meridian 59 way back, then played everquest, ffxi, horizons, and so on down the list. I have played most mmo's some for a few months, others for a year or more. I was in the Tabula Rasa beta, and to be entirely honest I was not impressed. I have been in many beta's and TR's seemed lackluster and a system hog for what they were giving me for eyecandy and mechanics. That being said, my review is not about beta, it is about the current state of the game.
There are currently alot of bugs still, yet not one has been game-breaking. They are doing regular updates to address these and are balancing things properly (Though I may not agree, this is their game and their vision) The gameplay is different, and gives a fresh feel to a genre of games that has grown stale over the years. Having to retake bases just to finish a quest... WOW this is fun, especially combined with the fact that there is indeed strategy inviolved. The maps are large and there is zoning, this is in part due to the node system the game uses. This allows you to go to other instances of the map to help reduce any lag you might get or to even get the chance to defend/Assault an outpost that you want. The cloning system allows you to make your characters differently.... ie. at level 15 you chose to go Ranger, but you also want a soldier... clone... then you can have both. I see this as a positive move for the casual gamer, and great for the raid oriented gamer (If they intend to add "raids") The weapons are pretty cool, but they could use more models for armor and weapons.
On to Creatures, many of the same creatures all over, but this fits with the lore, and is something I do hope they will change. But the creatures they do have are very specific, and have their own classes.... some possess the ability to shape light around them (stealth) and it makes them immune to lasers.. others have the ability to reflect damage and you wind up hurting yourself. This makes for some tactical decision when fighting large groups!
In conclusiont o my short review.. The game is alot of fun, it is possible it might get old... but it is definately a game worth trying. Does it have bugs.... damn right it does. What MMO Doesn't. But it was a smooth launch, and NCSoft is working hard on squashing the bugs, and making the game fun. I look forward to seeing what they have to offer in the future. If you are looking for something different, something with the potential to grow and a place to make some friends, then this game may be the place for you.
Oh, and as a side note, I do warn that the community is not fully developed and the general channel can be very remeniscent of Barren chat in W.o.W. ..... Ewwww

Thank you for this review. I've been looking around for a good, grounded reason to purchase this game. After reading some other players opinions I was slightly sckeptical and wasn't completely sold on the idea. However after reading this forum I have changed my mind and will be adding myself to the TR community shortly. Thank you.
Definately fun for a month...gets boring after that, at least other games have replayability, tr has none, do a mission once, you really don't want to do it twice...too much legwork, too little technology, too much money grinding, too little realism...
Better off playing Cod4 or Patience...now theres replayability...
Life is about Living, Sleep is about Dreaming, Games are about Strategy!
Seems every new game has a period in the beginning where chat is pretty bad. This seems to calm itself within the first 30 to 60 days. Looks like there is a group of jerks that buys the new games and just plays the 30 free days for the sole purpose of being fools in general chat. Oh well to each their own.....
Rugster obviously you have no clue what makes a MMORPG appealing. You tell people to play a shooter when they are here looking for a MMORPG fix.. you do know this is a MMORPG site? As far as the money grinding...I always have so much money I dont know what to do with it. Maybe try playing the retail version before you come on here talking a bunch of Sh!t.
He is another person judging the game from the beta test. I ran out of money several times during beta, but not once since the game went live. This is on of the rare games where the experience has changes from the beta and the live game and gets better every patch....

I agree the game is infinately better. As I said in my review it can be a little repetative.... but oddly it doesn't feel old.. I LOVE defending and assaulting bases.... and even though it is the same thing over and over again.. tactics change... it feels new everytime. I am far from a fanboi.... and I do not get hyped over games.... but I can honestly say that Tabula Rasa is shaping up to be a great Sci-Fi game. and as for money for Ammo. In the beginning just do not take the things that munch ammo.. ie. Chainguns. Shotgun + Rifle are great and I have had to spend very little... just remember there are multiple inventory tabs, thiere is more items to sell that you have looted.... you shouldn't have any problems with money.
Please remember this game HAS changed since beta.... I too did not have the warm fuzzy's in beta, and am having a ton of fun now. Beta was a chance for them to improve the game.. and what a shocl (not sarcasm) they actually did.
