TR is no fps and the targeting system isn't even as advanced as Hellgate.
It still makes rolls like standard RPGs.. it just tricks you into thinking otherwise.
Every damm game makes rolls. It's called random generator to produce feeling that it's random. If it doesn't make rolls, then it would be bad game design. Because example player aiming should be allways simulated by some randomness. No-one can aim so that they hit allways target, even if target is still. Other ways in RL everyone would hit allways they targets.
PS: 700ms ping means You get about 1,4 frame per second. How to hell someone can play with 1-2 picture every second? Even with dial-up, You should get 200-300ms ping, what is about 5 fps.
FPS is not decided by connection speed. All the graphics are hosted and rendered locally on your own PC (thus the huge installation). All the server is sending/receiving are tiny little packets of data that provide information on what's going on around the player and/or in reaction to them so the client (your game install) knows what to render to the screen, etc.
Indications of high ping or bad lag are extreme rubber-banding, spikes where you see nothing happening on screen for a few moments then everything "catches up" in a second, or people around you are "warping around", as the server tries to resolve where the client says they are versus where the server thinks they are based on poor connection and lost packets.

I had already admitted it being partly my internets fault, but as i've said multiple times.
I can play many other MMOs and non-MMOs online perfectly fine.
Yet this game. This ONLY one will not work properly.
My ping is fine. Suddenly it'll jump to 10,000+
That is not a natural spike in my connection as i've never hit over 2,000ms unless someone is downloading a very large file.
The problem is the sever is going out of synch with my connection. The time delay is not adjusted properly and it's dropping my connection to soon when a spike occures.
I've also contacted HughesNet and they are working on it. They need to make some adjustments for the game to synch a bit better like they've done with other games, but that can only do so much. They can't fix poor network coding.
The game has bad network coding and that's all there is to it. Stop trying to make excuses.
People on 6mb DSL are having pings of 200ms+, which is NOT normal.
In time they'll iron out the bugs, which is fine.

Thanks for the advice, but please learn the difference between ping/latency and fps.
It has nothing to do with my video card.
It's my latency or delay between my computer and the servers.
So far from my tests if the server is on medium or greater load then it simply boots me constantly. Regardless of how good/bad my ping is.
I do believe the server is simply rejecting my connection or something is cause them to not synch up properly.
At this point I know pretty much what the problem is. Just hope it actually gets fixed, but in any case i'm calling around tomorrow and hopefully can finally get cable internet at the least.

There are some similar problems in TR and Eve online. There are frequent disconnects from 13th of November for specific ISP providers. Could you all confirm date and post providers, please?
i made over 150 login attempts every day most of the time stuck at authenti cation then server choosing then disconnected from server.
I am in europe and the only time i was able to try tr was after midnight from 1.30 am to 3.30 am.thats the time i played
If servers are so bad and awful, then how You explain that many players are playing in those same servers fine without any disconnections?
If servers would be the problem, then all players would be affected same ways. So conclusion is that it's not servers, it's the connection between You and the servers. From what I have understand so far is that some players ISP are affecting the Tabula Rasa games connection by narrowing the traffic bandwith. This could happen, because it thinks the traffic is something else than game. Like some P2P software traffics. If this happens, then it cause high pings, what can cause disconnections.
I play Tabula Rasa every day more than 4 hours. I have no disconnection, nor any major lag. I do how ever have some lag time to time. Mostly when there is alot of npcs and/or players around. Like in outpost attacks and defences.
My point is, if it's not affecting ALL players same way, it's not server.
yea without doubt its not the Tabula Rasa servers I've never had problems with them.
It sounds like either your ISP or YOU are blocking a port, or a port is already in use that its trying to use. Sounds very similar to Tiscali's old trick
After multiple tests with the support team we have concluded that my connection (running a 1 hour ping test) to the servers is 100% perfect. There was a minor 10% packet loss when I turned wireless back on, but that's not enough for a disconnect.
So how do you newblets explain that? I can connect directly to every server at average pings of 800-1000ms, which is typical and playable on satellite. Yet when I try to connect to the servers through the game. I get disconnected constantly.
Here is what we confirmed. The network code needs to be redone. We all knew this except for the people in denial. Some get good connections, but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem. People with DSL and Cable are having higher pings then they should, but they are still able to keep a steady connection because the network code isn't dropping your packets from a delay.
We tested my computer. My connection. My router. All are 100% ok. We tested their server. Server is 100% ok. Now they have a team working on the network code.
So if you've been having the problem I have. Just give it time. It'll get fixed.
I also said a few posts up that 9 games work fine on my computer and connection. That's N-I-N-E. TR is 1.. that's O-N-E.. game. I already guessed the outcome. It's the game.

You know what OP? Most the people in this thread who responded just spoke the truth regarding their experience, and gave you their best guesses as to why your experience might be different.
But I did not see where many (if any) were rude or beligerent in their replies, which yours are increasingly becoming. I know you're getting angry at 'your' situation but no need to take it out on them for trying to help you. (remember, free advice is frequently worth what you paid for it)
Despite all your tests, the problem could 'still' be specific to your box's configuration/hardware, drivers etc. A real test would be to take test another computer at your house to see if that's the case...but probably not a practical solution.
In the end, and this is true with every game out there...some folks just can't play some games.... you might have to accept this and move on. (play one of the 9 games out there that do work for you)

I start to think, that it could be some similar net code in Tabula rasa, Eve and also Hellgate, which is affected by network filters of some providers. Have you tried that workaround with connection via VPN to some local friend's PC and routed via his (safe) provider? It worked for Eve and TR for people using UPC in my country. Also, can you try Eve online trial to be able to confirm same problem?

10% packet loss is not acceptable for online gaming. It should to be less than 5%, didn't You know that? Yes, 10% packet loss can also cause disconnections. Too high latency can cause disconnections.
As for you other people who kept blaming MY system. STFU. This is a lesson to you. Stop making half-assed assumptions and get out of my thread if you can't learn to stop being biased.
So, You blaiming everyone else, but not You own stuff. So, we should accept Your opinion, because You having problems and we don't. So, if we have no problems at all, there is still something wrong, because You have problems with Your crappy connection with high latency.
Facts are: YOU have bad connection, because it has high latency (ping). So YOU make assumption that online games have to work with high latency.
Where's the limit, with how bad connection online games have to work or do YOU define that by You self?
Simple way sayed, DON'T whine it in here. If You want better service or changes, talk to Tabula Rasa support. It's they decission, if they want to change they network protocols to support YOUR needs. They may also refuse to change it, You know.
10% is acceptable that lasted for 2minutes out of 60minutes. It was a tiny spike from me turning the wireless back on or did you not read that? Changing a setting like that halts or stutters traffic.
Anyway, i've been playing for hours all morning when the server is on Low load and it works fine.
I also wasn't being rude at all. If you want rude look at the pure ignorance that is quick to judge one or the other without any proof or even reading over solid arguements.
I have Hellgate and it works perfectly fine. I've played EVE Online and it ran perfectly fine.
As I said this is the first MMO that is has EVER happened with on my satellite connection.

I'm aware that satellite internet sucks, but it's my only option and MMOs work perfectly fine.
I've played CoV, EQ2, DAoC, Hellgate, Rappelz, Sword of the New World, WoW.. the dang list goes on. I login and enjoy a good 20 minutes.. BAM disconnected.. wtf? ok so I try again.. 5 minutes later.. BAM disconnected. This continues on and on and on. People run their dang mouths in chat "OMG IT'S YOUR COMPUTER!" Well it's funny that 9 other games on my system work PERFECTLY FINE.. yet somehow this one doesn't and it's my PC? Sorry, but the odds are against TR. The lower the population the longer I could play at least. The game is fun and all, but i'm sick of paying for betas and i'm not going to sit around and deal with this crap. I'm taking it back and getting a refund (I know some people.. so yes i'll get my refund). Hell the game doesn't even suck. It's really fun, but wtf is with this shitty support. Before anyone trys to suggest tips: I've got no firewall, port forwarding is setup.. and i've tried going directly to the modem. Guess it's back to Hellgate.. wonderful.. now wtf is there to play *sigh* A quality product is just to fking much to ask for anymore
So on your computer 9 out of 10 work....well guess what, on their server, 10,000 users connect fine and 1 (you) don't. I dunno.....numbers confuse me, but I think your logic may be off.
Well good news for some and bad for others. Im gonna support him since I got the same exact problem. And I too can play in the morning until maybe 11:00 a.m. when server fills up.
And I understand him about how frustrating it is when people say hey its only you the problem! Because I know it is in some way, but its not our fault. There is indeed a problem between our ISP and TR servers.
Now now, dont go off saying : ITS NOT THE SERVER! IT WORKS FINE FOR US! SCREW YOU!! ....Because actually, even if it doesnt work for you, there is a possibility it doesnt for us.
So conclusion, lets just wait. Both TR and ISP providers will fix the problem.
In my 3 weeks in the game the game disconnects me about 5 times a day and crashes to desktop twice a day . No other mmo i play - not even vanguard does that
Through more tests I can conclude the most stable of the servers for central US players is East coast. The West coasts have 200ms or more higher ping on average then East coast. This is ONLY for HughesNet and WildBlue players though. I can't account for anyone else. Make your own judgement.
A few support techs have said that I need to get a different ISP and try with it. One even had the nerve to say dial-up delay is only 300ms. I about died from laughter. To think they're so incompatent to believe that after the data load and the innitial delay of dial-up that you'd get a 300ms delay ingame is just absurdly ignorant.
Anyway, I've finally got through to mangement teir HughesNet support and they have 100% confirmed that packet information is being disrupted FROM TR servers BEFORE it returns to them. They have confirmed data sent from me to them to be routed to TR servers is at 100% with minor packet loss (less than 5%).
He then ran pings STRAIGHT FROM HEADQUATERS to TR servers and can confirm that the server is running at 100% (the SAME results I received in my tests). His words to me was "The network coding that is handling the packets is causing problems. I can't give you specifics, because I did not write this code nor am I affiliated with them, but the tests show the data is corrupt before it returns to us and is sent to you in this form. This would cause your game Tabula Rasa in this case to "drop" or discconect you from their server."
He explained that higher speed connections keep in contact with the servers much more frequently then satellite can resulting in the server never "thinking" they was disconnected in the first place, but can still happen.
What this means is yes Satellites delay is partly to blame, but the major factor is poor network coding. Regardless of this issue or not. That needs to be fixed. If fixed high speed users will experience better pings and satellite users will experience more reliable connectivity.
Even my tests done with the TR support team show that my connection to their game server is stable and playable. With average pings of 600-1000ms, which is playable.
I explained to the HughesNet support rep that this only occures when the server goes under medium to heavy load or what I mean is it gets much more popular. He told me that depending on how the network code is written it is probably prioritizing players with faster response times and essentially dropping those with a longer delay to dedicate that bandwith towards the more "reliable" players.
It all seams like solid evidence to me and would suggest why the problem is mainly centered around Satellite users.
So what is the problem? The delay is causing the server to "think" we are no longer connected so it is terminating our connection. This can be fixed as it is with all other MMOs on the market.
Even fast paced FPS style Hellgate works flawlessly with my connection. Auto Assault did too. As does CoV/CoH.
So there you have it. Take it or leave it. I'm done looking into this, because i've come to the answer and there's nothing more I can do.
I've relayed this information to the proper TR team members and can only hope things will get better.
Apparantly the upcoming patch is to address some of this issue, but this is all word of mouth so that I don't know.
So us Satellite users. We have 2 options. To play what little we can and wait it out or quit and play something else.
I personally am looking into EVE Online. I just recently glimpsed the new expansion that's updating the graphics and am very impressed by what I see. As far as gameplay goes? I havn't a clue really. I'd prefer to play TR, but that's up to the development team if they plan to make the necessary changes or not.
Good luck to everyone else and thank you all for the feedback everyone has provided.

I used to have around 700ms or even more , after lot of negotiations with my ISP I managed to reduce ONE HOP , now I am getting 200-300ms which I find quite playable.
If upcoming patch fixes latency issue even more, i will be more than happy.

Are you on satellite?
Because you can't just reduce hops on satellite. It's the time it takes to go from your house to the satellite to the headquaters and back. The round trip is roughly 1second or 1000ms.
There is no reducing to be done.
On dial-up it's possible to get those pings if you're VERY close to the access number, BUT your download and upload rates will bottleneck if you get near any large number of people. You will be disconnected worse then I am. So I don't buy this BS.
If you are on DSL/Cable then you're getting boned with those latencys.
*Edit*
Sorry forgot to mention to all you satellite users. Hughes Net launched the Ka-band Spaceway 3 satellite, which can basically half your delays and double your speeds.
Apparantly we all can switch to this dish in early 2008 when it goes commercial. We'll be able to receive the same speeds of DSL/Cable, but can be anywhere we want.
I'm going to contact them and get more information on this.
The current satellite we use requires 2 Hops. This new dish works only on 1 Hop. Reducing latency significantly (by half). So if I can't play on what I got now. Then I surely can on this, but I need more info.

I haven't tried Satellite yet on TR, but I may give it a shot just to test it, as my parents have Wild Blue.
Secondly, I know you said you could only use Satellite but have you tried/heard of Verizon Wireless Broadband? It's nation wide and I would recommend that over satellite. That's what I use as I live outside of Bozeman, Montana to far away from a exchange to get dsl and cable doesnt come this far up my road to get. I get a consistant connection with verizon, with pings from 100-500ms. I think I only disconnected once over a week and a half of pretty hardcore playing. Just a suggestion.

Not sure how your figuring that out... bouncing off a satellite is a two hop procedure no matter what .
And SPEED is only part of it, you'll still have worse latency, as the laws of physics don't cease to exist because of a bandwidth change.

No I havn't tried looking into wireless. The area I live in has dense trees. So it may not be possible, but i'll check. I've checked for services available and they gave me nothing but dial-up through verizon, but i'll check again.
Thanks.

It's a new satellite technology that doesn't require a NOC apparantly. I'm not 100% sure how it works, but it reduces the number of hops required by 1, which WILL reduce latency. On top of that you get faster speeds, which will also reduce latency even more slightly.
You can purchase the service through HughesNet in january. I'm trying to get a price quote on a home based installation.

Also an update to all you who are on satellite and curious. The new patch has reduced the amount of disconnects and latency significantly for me. I still get disconnected at prime time, because my brother, me, dad, and my gf are all using it at the same time. If we wasn't then it'd work perfectly fine.
So in a sense. It's fixed. If you have a big network. I would suggest playing in the morning mainly.

yea without doubt its not the Tabula Rasa servers I've never had problems with them.
As for you other people who kept blaming MY system. STFU. This is a lesson to you. Stop making half-assed assumptions and get out of my thread if you can't learn to stop being biased.

Just happy you're not on my server when you can connect, you sound like a real peach.
I came in to offer some of the things that worked for me in another game where I was having troubles, but never mind...
No other mmo i play - not even vanguard does that
EU server

Here is another "high pinger"
I used to have around 700ms or even more , after lot of negotiations with my ISP I managed to reduce ONE HOP , now I am getting 200-300ms which I find quite playable.
If upcoming patch fixes latency issue even more, i will be more than happy.
And PS
EVE online , is the only MMO that actually suffers from same latency problems as TR

Hey Krileon,
I haven't tried Satellite yet on TR, but I may give it a shot just to test it, as my parents have Wild Blue.
Good luck,
stewker

Not sure how your figuring that out... bouncing off a satellite is a two hop procedure no matter what .
And SPEED is only part of it, you'll still have worse latency, as the laws of physics don't cease to exist because of a bandwidth change.
No I havn't tried looking into wireless. The area I live in has dense trees. So it may not be possible, but i'll check. I've checked for services available and they gave me nothing but dial-up through verizon, but i'll check again.
Thanks.
*Edit*
Just checked for the wireless. Not available in my area. =(

*Edit*
Also an update to all you who are on satellite and curious. The new patch has reduced the amount of disconnects and latency significantly for me. I still get disconnected at prime time, because my brother, me, dad, and my gf are all using it at the same time. If we wasn't then it'd work perfectly fine.
So in a sense. It's fixed. If you have a big network. I would suggest playing in the morning mainly.
