not all troops over there had thanksgiving dinner

 When got my holiday call from kiddo, it was a few days after thanksgiving,  his unit was out and about , that day missed the whole thing, when they came back the mess area was closed. They were told to go back to their bunks eat mres.

 He got back to his bunk noticed the mail worked while they were gone and he got my box. My care package i sent him that box was filled with food mainly that time. In it  had canned turkey, tuna packets, cranberry sauce crackers , jelly, beans , jello pudding, fruit cotail , a warmer for water , strafoam cups, insta irish cream coffee , individual pecan apple pies from walmart / Although worried about that box being a bit cheeky he stated it was the best thing he had eaten in days .

 Please keep our troops in your good thoughts!

I remember many occasions of the same thing happening to me while deployed.  I think the longest I went on MREs alone was over 4 months, August 14, 1994 through December 25, 1994 (Christmas being my first non-mre or care package meal).  We did get apples, Cool-Aid, and plain M&M's by the bucketload during that time for some reason.  I think it was 10 years before I ate a plain M&M again.  I must admit, it is very disheartening.  I've heard a lot of bad stories about the way our soldiers are being treated overseas from my buddies still in service.  In all honesty though, service while deployed is never enjoyable regardless of whether people are shooting at you or not.

Holy crap, they totally ripped them off...
My last deployment in Camp Victory the Chow halls were open 24/7.

Jeez that just upsets the hell out of me.
I hate it, I hate it when that kind of crap happens.
There are great things about being deployed and then crappy things about being Deployed.

This is my last deployment, once I get back I'm out in two months in 09.

 He was there last year as well the mess was 24/7 not where he is this time a round so he and his unit were pretty bummed about that. I am writing to our seantors asking what's with the mess hall not being opened when they guys get back from doing what they are suppose to be doing?

 He stated that mess hall issue this go around is having a pretty big morale issue there currently

 For the other kind replies thank you it is hard on families when kiddos and others over there in harms way during holiday time ( or any time)
