I wold have to say EVE like alot of people in here. It just isn't my bag, but I respect the game for several reasons.
EQ2 simply because of the amount of content and the community.
Lineage 2 I really think this game is very well done..from the classes to the soundtrack...we all know what the problems are and the grind keeps me from deidcating my time to it this late in the game, but I really dig that game....cant wait for Aion
It was City of Heroes for me. I think the developers did an excellent job with the artwork and to some degree the gameplay but the game just fell flat for me. I loved the idea of creating a superhero and forming super groups but in the immortal words of Syndrome (of The Incredibles)..."In a world where everyone is a superhero....no one is". I found the game to lack depth and by the time I got to completing the quests in "The Hollows" I just couldn't take anymore. Running around fighting clusters of gangs felt pointless all to unlock an extra ability that didn't enhance gameplay very much and so after a few of months of playing I quit......then I decided to come back to the game and have a fresh start after being gone for over a year. I reactivated my account for 1 month (this time playing as a villian) and after 2 days of playing, all the same feelings I had toward this game resurfaced again. I grew up as a big comic book fan and was really expecting much more from this game, but for $15/month the game didn't deliver for me.
The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.
Lineage 2: Graphics top notch, animations are good, and the settings are spectacular.
Everquest 2: The devs really, really want this to be good. Too much WoW influence killed this for me, but I respect it.
CoH/CoV: This could have been a great, phenomenal game. Too linear though, and not enough character-driven sandbox elements.

Top of my list is WoW. I disliked playing the game, but I respect the fact that they've opened up the MMO market like no other game has. It vaulted potential customers over the most difficult hurdle: paying a subscription for an online game. Once people become comfortable with that idea, they're more likely to try other MMOs. That is good for our hobby.
Also Roma Victor. Didn't care for the game, but I absolutely respect them for being an Indie developer trying to put out a game without big studio backing. I'd almost give them money on principle alone....almost.

WoW because it shows developers and players that massive multiplayer online games can be accessible, complete and polished from the day of release onward.
To me, I'd have to say the current SWG and Eve-Online. Both games were excellent at a point but then became old / hated due to the game evolution or direct decision by it's management profitability schemes.SWG in my case was one of the best MMORPG in the history of online games until the NGE and all the lies and deception by it's management. Eve-Online became boring after the third year with the influx of macro-miners, Kamikaze pilots, and lack of seeing anything else except your ship as your identity.
Eve Online. I'd list reasons as to why it's a good MMO, but the list would be long and I don't feel like going into that much detail. Despite all of its pros I have never been able to get into it. I've tried. I bought the game ages ago, I've done trials, and I've played on a friend's account.
The bottom line is that Eve bores me to tears, but I've always had to say that it's a decent game.
WoW: It has some good PvP, but the quest grinding is unpleasant.
Tabula Rasa: I love the combat system, the instances, the zones, and the quests. The combat system is refreshing and a lot of fun, just the game has too little PvP which makes it a bore with no long term potential.
Eve: Lack of grind, interesting politics, great economy. I just can't stand the combat and the mining.
Two games I loved playing... wait no, that isn't right. Let me try this again. Two games that could have absolutley rocked, but don't due to poor server/game stability, translate to hate. Neocron and Irth online/worlds.
I liked the futuristic post apocalyptic setting of Neocron. The wide range of weapons that were customizable and the near absolute freedom in skills. The crafting, 99% of the items you found could be studied then crafted for player use. The vehicles - motocycles, tanks, gliders, and hovercrafts. The clan pvp for outpost. A good number of which had bonuses to a certain craft skill, giving a purpose to it all. Drones!!! Hacking!!! And there was even a stockmarket... It was all so close to the pnp Shadowrun... but the constant crashing, lag, and rollbacks killed any fun that could have been.
As for Irth. This is a true sandbox game and the largest I've ever played in. Although I haven't played UO, I'm told that the skill systems are much alike. Some where around 30-40 skills it seems, both combat and crafting. All of which you can learn and no caps on how high you want to take them. Three pvp civs and one non-pvp crafting civ, for the weak of heart and spirit. I don't really know how to explain the game in its full aspects... it just feels so open and the possiblities are endless. If you want to rob someones home, you do it. Getting tired of being robbed? Tame or buy some monsters from another player to guard your home. There is a great community for actual roleplaying... but, the game crashes all the time and freeze lags up to 30 secs at a time ever few minutes. Could have been great... what a waste.
I respect EVE, but I don't think I'll ever be able to devote the time required it to truly enjoy it. I play games for PvP, and the amount of time it takes to catch up with a new char in terms of skills and ISK takes more time than I have at the moment. Maybe someday.
I also very much respect Planetside. It's an excellent game, but Sony bought it and from what I've heard had lots of trouble with the code. That's why it's remained relatively static and it's graphics are dated. It's a testament to the power of it's unique nature as the first and only true mmofps that it is still played. I had to quit the game when Sony added in game advertising in addition to the monthly fee. If I'm paying 15$/month, I do not want to see ads.

Eve.
It is the only game I have ever seen that took the old pyramid scheme and made a game out of it.

EVE - same reason as just about everyone else.
DAoC - quality game but I just could not get past the tedious, boring PvE to get to the desirable PvP content.

EVE, the worst great game out there.

Eve-Online, EQ2, DnL, SWG (Dead), Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, EQ, DAoC, Planet Side, WoW, LOTR, Tabula Rasa.
EVE because it "almost" gets everything right... but just doesn't hold my interest enough to keep playing long term....
Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!
Id say it was FF XI for me. I loved the story, music, taturus and the community but the GRIND and waiting for parties was way too much for me!
