Hey guys,
First of all, let me start off by saying that I bought an xbox 360 last week mainly to play COD4. I didn't want to upgrade my computer to be able to play it on there. Anyways, I absolutely LOVED the game and the multiplayer was just as awesome.
I was having a little trouble at first, being as I am not particularly used to shooters nor the controller.
Anyways, I found this guide online that kinda helped me so I thought i'd share with you guys.. i'd been trolling the forums for awhile so now i get to contribute

Nice find shiz
When they mean rookie guide.. they REALLY mean rookie guide haha. Personally I don't care much for guides like this but I know that they can be pretty useful. I showed my girlfriend a how to play counter strike guide a long time ago and she got a lot out of it so i'm glad that people are still writing guides for the rookies.
edit: I posted a link from that website also not too long ago but I didn't really bother to look around. There are some pretty interesting reads on there

I'll add a few tips I have picked up in my 36 hours+ of gameplay. Some of these are more for teams as a whole, but can still apply for small groups of people playing together.
1. Respect the Spawn- This one obviously falls under "Teams as a Whole" but is a very important one. COD 4's Team Death Match does not have flags but the spawn points are still movable. Therefore it is best if you respect the other team's side of the map and keep your ass on your own side. Quite often your team will have the other pinned down in a specific building or narrow street. If you stay back and make sure that at least one of their guys stays alive you'll be able to keep them where they are. This allows your whole team time to surround them and run up the points. Also it prevents your Snipers from all of a sudden finding themselves behind enemy lines. Nothing pisses me off more than finding the perfect Sniping spot well into my own spawn area just to have my entire team rush their spawn point right off the bat forcing me to abandon my spot or probably get knifed.
2. Move and Flank- Like the article says, constantly move, and constantly flank. It may take you four times as long to get a chance to shoot someone, and you may get shot as soon as you spend this time getting behind the enemy, but chances are you'll get your best kills coming from behind. It also helps move your enemies spawn closer to your own team which is even better. Also, in a game like this, the best way to rack up the kills is to just not stop moving. Kneeling and finding cover might get you 1 or 2 kills for every death, but catching the other guy unprepared will get you the 4 or 5-1 Kill-Death Ratios. Of course Sniping is the complete opposite.
3. Circle and Shoot- If you get into a close quarters shoot-out with an enemy but are too far for knives, fire at him while circling to your left or right. This is pretty much a no-brainer but it works far more often than simply standing still or strafing. You may lose some accuracy but you'll almost always get the kill.
