8800 GT GTS or GTX?

ArndurArndur Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,202

I keep seeing different views. Some people say that the GT runs better but others say the new games need the extra memory that the GTS and GTX. Also i cant seem to find a GT anywhere so if i went with a GTX or GTS is the GTX worth the extra 150? I may even have the money for a ultra is worth it to go for that or put the money towards something else?

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Depends on how much your willing to spend.

    Ultra > GTX > GT > GTS 640 > GTS 320.

IMO the GT is the best value for money by far.

    Exactly.

The GT costs about 300 compared to the GTX that costs about 500, and the GT comes within like 5% of the GTX.

So I say go for the GT, especially since the improved version of the GTS has been delayed.

What David99 said. The (refreshed) GT was released just a short while ago, so it might be a bit hard to find. But if you want the best, go for the Ultra. I'm not sure if they're even making the GTX anymore; what you see may just be cards they've got laying around in their inventories hoping to unload on the unwary.

Depends if you have a good enough power supply and what resolution you are running at. If its not a really high resolution, I think one GT will suffice even though you will see a decent improvement with SLI.

Just get one. SLi is garbage.

in less than a week the new 8800GTS 512mb will launch. this will be better than all those cards and still cheap.

the 8800GT is the best out of your choice, but the new GTS is basically a faster GT for a little more money. it will win me thinks.

This question cannot be answered without knowing the resolution the OP is playing at and what his current power supply is.

The GT comes close to the GTX only at lower resolution. If playing at high resolution the GTX spanks it. the bang per bicks really depends on the rest of the PC.

Go with the GT, no other card makes sense.

And you would still suggest a GT if he's running on a 27" monitor? Methinks not.

I don't mean to sound like a pedant but for all the GT is an amazing card for the price, it's not necessarily the "best" for every system.

Depends on how much money he has to blow. Not everyone has $300+ to spend on a vid card.

As some posters mention, there is no one single card that is perfect for everyone.

But in general, in terms of value for money, or bang-for-buck, or a great performance vs. price ratio, the 8800GT is difficult to overlook.

I plan to run on a 20in screen.

Just get the GT, there is no sane argument to be had about it.
