hey all,
i am not gonna lie, i play vanguard primarily. i just recently started playing pirates of the burning sea and i am having a lot of fun with that too. Also i jump on eq2 occasionally and i enjoy that game as well. so long story short i figured the station access pass would be the better choice financially. Well i figured what the heck lets try out some of these games and i loaded up the matrix online. I have to say it has been a ton of fun. i have never seen a a game with such a great community. i have created 3 characters so far and every time i have had a high level come show me the ropes. i get tells constantly saying if u need help let me know. it is action packed and the lore/storyline is amazing. graphics arent bad for the timeframe either. i just wanted to take the time and say i am having a great time and thank the community for being so great. my advice for anybody is not just take the word from the forums but always try a game for youself, you might be surprised. I have to admit i have never shown any interest in the matrix online and i prob would have never tried it if i didnt get the station access but i am having a blast. i like em all i try ever game that hits the market and have found few that i dont , but i just wanted to point out this may not want to be one you ignore. i understand the animoustiy (sp) towards SOE, but i do beleive this game may be a little underrated. anyway thanks for listenin,
Cen

Firstly, you just broke your NDA for PotBS
Secondly SOE dont advertise the game when they should.
The game is great when you get into it, and if SOE advertised it we would have more players.
I played the trial (still am) but wasn't impressed. Right at the start I was hit by a recurring bug where you can't shoot anything. You simply get a message about 'unable to fire due to an unknown reason'.
That forced me to miss the majority of the tutorial and instantly set me at a disadvantage as I didn't know about any of the equipment I had. I'll try again but so far I've been hit by the same bug on three separate occasions.
Still it's a game suffering from a severe lack of players. I did find one person who spoke to me, but live players seemed rare.

Could someone tell me why they play this game?
I had forgotten what it was about this game that turned me off when it frst came out. I recently tried the trial to remind myself but just cant muster the interest to log in. Ive only made it to level 7 so obviously i havent delved into it far.
It reminds me of CoH/V with groups of "gangs" standing around to be killed and instanced missions to do. Ive heard that its main draw is the story but was wondering if the gameplay is the same later in the game as in the beginning. Im not trying to slam the game just wondering if im missing something or its just not my cup of tea.
why do people not play this game?
Because it sucks.
Mxo was already in a mess when SOE got their hands on it. Cant really blame em for it. I think they tried a revamp of combat....but they always seem to make folks mad when they overhaul stuff heh
When I have my AAP active, I once in a while log in to "kung foo" some bad guys. IMO it isnt the "worst" MMO out there....not that my assesment means much.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Well two reasons.
#1: Its an Sony game now. I'll never play a game of theirs again (SWG Burn Victim)
#2: Regardless of how good the game may seem to some, for me it just didn't capture at all any of the coolness of the movies, and it was because of the movies I tried it. A good, if shallow example is the clothing. Big part of the Matrix was the look. Looking sharp. In the game though (it may have changed) if you chose clothes based on what you needed for bonuses, you often looked like an idiot.
Personally I think MMO's tied to intellectual properties like SWG and MXO will always have a really high bar to reach in order to please their fans, coupled with the restrictions that an intellectual property comes with. I guess the thinking is these types of games come with a built-in audience, but that audience is damn hard to please. Games that create their own mythos and lore feel far more free and open to me, with a much larger possibility of anything happening, and a greater ease of getting into my character. Could just be me. Examples of this are all the Jedi in SWG (tho SWG was much better when it was merely letting me play in the SW universe as opposed to making me feel like I'm in the movie.) And in LOTRO though its a really good game, its just a little too painful to share Tolkien's universe with all of YOU! As in, who wants to be in the Shire and put up with 'barrens chat'?
its a lot of reasons but for the most part its the repititious mission system it has. Its pretty much the same thing over and over and over.
Similiar to CoH.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
cus their stoopid noobs that cant handle the rp and the best pvp in the world
thats why
Hail Neo, full of pwnage, Morpheus is with thee
Blessed art thou among Zion, and blessed is the roundhouse against Smith.
Holy Neo, pray for us now, and at the hour of Victory, Amen.
It's the repetative nature and the small community I think. The community is pretty passionate about this game which is all good, and they tend to love seeing a new face, but unfortunately one of the reasons the max level people are always happy to help you out is simply because they have nothing else to do.
I had some good fun in MxO for a few months but it gets old pretty fast IMHO, and at Max level it can sometimes become nothing mroe than a 3D chat room, especially if you are outside the US, as most of the events (if they still do them) are in peak US play times.

It's a computer game! Try not to forget that.
It really doesnt help that a couple hundred thousand SOE customers that got screwed by the NGE fiasco are telling everyone they know not to buy any SOE products. I considered trying it while i was on station pass but decided to cancel all my SOE subscriptions instead.
Lol its not just the SWG burn victims... Planetside was a great game under SOE... it deteariated.
Other then EQ games I cant think of any SOE games that havent had an uproar with its community because of something dumb SOE did.
Darkfall for now.
Quit bashing games YOU don't like! Including WoW, you know you liked it before you got burned out.

I am just pointing out that bad word of mouth may have been a major contribution to the lack of players. Do you dispute that?
The few people i know that have tryed it....all loved it. Just that it had the CoH boring grind system.
I thought this game was awesome. Community was great, it got away from the archers and elves theme, lots of community activities, parties, fight clubs and tournements. It was basically made good by the community the game had lots of potential but the missions where always the same.
Damn man what the hell...Tell why the game sucks, support your statement, back it up. This is the #1 thing that pisses me off on these forums. Eat poop nice name by the way..
Why don't I play this game?
Because they killed off Morpheus.
Simply the worst decision they could have made.
I quit a week after, and I didn't even play as a Zionist.
Have no feer, Morfeus is still alive.
Hail Neo, full of pwnage, Morpheus is with thee

Holy Neo, pray for us now, and at the hour of Victory, Amen.
I have a hard time being effected by any story changes that they make, since the Matrix at its base has such a convoluted and nonsensensical story in the first place.
So go ahead and kill Neo or Orifice or whoever. Throw in some vampires, why not? I wanna see some aliens next.
Why does it hurt when I pee?
Have no feer, Morfeus is still alive.
I am pretty sure they introduced an "Assassin" made of flies to the game, who then killed Morpheus.
If they brought Morpheus back from the dead they really have screwed things up.
I installed the game, played it for 30 minutes and uninstalled it. The gameplay is horrible, the combat system is horrible and there was one bug that made me made. Anytime my toon would run inside buildings the lag was horrible. They just need to make this one free to play.
"Why does it hurt when I pee?"
You've never used it before?
Providing you're a die hard Matrix fan you stand to gain something from MxO. But it does have its major flaws. Lets break it down into it's finer points;
Missions - Your only means of leveling. Story driven missions (critical missions) can feel engaging but are far and few between. You'll have a load to do at the beginning but once you've done them all and are left with nothing but the standard set you'll find no diversity what so ever. Every mission will feel like the last and they'll soon grow old very fast. If you think grinding in WoW is bad...you ain't seen nothing yet.
PVP/PVE - In a world designed around interlock you'll find that hackers throw a major spanner in the works. But its not just PVP that suffers from this broken mechanic, PVE can become unbearable in a crowded place full of the mishaps.
End game - Once you've hit the level cap you'll grind and grind and grind to make info for branching off into other trees....and then you'll wait for the next instalment of the matrix saga. Which could take weeks...unless you're a major RP'er and like to make up stories as you go but unfortunately that doesn't cater to everyone.
All in all MxO can leave you with a very bitter taste towards a franchise that you love. I'm not saying it's not worth trying, if you're a Matrix fan you'll find a few nice twists you hadn't thought about. But it lacks in oh so many ways...oh so many. It's actually quite sad but hey, I enjoyed it while I could, I suggest you do the do the same.
To wank, or not to wank. The ultimate MMO sacrifice.
WoW is the easiest grind there is. Considering the MMO community as a whole see WoW as the "starter" mmo to bring more people into playing MMO's this is understandable. WoW currently is the kiddy MMO player game. The 9mill ish subs are from kids having their parents foot the bill for a game that seems to appeal more to them than most adults (not saying there aren't any, just more than 80ish percent of the population in WoW are kids).
WoW has also been remarked as "the ez-mode mmo". Awhile back I snickered at a hardcore EQ raiding guild whom completely moved to WoW raiding for a change of pace. Only to have them posting on this site remarking at how easy raiding in WoW is comparative to EQ (the origional hard-set mmo).
Simple point I'm trying to make, please stop comparing WoW to everything like it was a Chocolate Moose sundae. The game, simply put, is nothing to compare anything to lol.

Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.
I'm going to say what my ex told me... The game had potential, but it never came into being.
Then SOE bought it and put it on their "lookit our accesspass, soooo maneeee games!!!!"
with a skeleton crew dev team..tho planetside has less... the game would keep on being what it is with no chance for getting better.
