The true life expectancy of a MMORPG is still unkknown. Heck, UO and EQ1 are both still up and having expansions. In the end, I wager the cost to run a MMORPG is a lot less than most people think. As such, a MMORPG can be sustained for a long time with only a core group of dedicated players.
It also helps that DAoC is still a gamwe that in unique even in todays overabndance of MMORPGs. So long as it remains one of the best RvR games, it will be around.
Upon my arrival, i found about a dozen hibs defending the Center Keep against about a dozen mids. Oh, wow, thought I....this game is not dead !.
Well I popped my head in these forums mainly because im bored and need another MMO (and I will not go back to WOW agian).. Anyways after reading that line above (which main me /rofl) its clear that this is not the one.
If 15 people makes you think a game is not "dead" then just what does?....
------------------------------ You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
That was in Thidranki, a lower level battleground. Even during its heyday, BGs were hit and miss depending on the day/time, so a dozen people on each side isn't bad, really.
Very true, I dont know about you guys but a dozen against 15 sounds like a hellava fight to me and a great time.
Seriously tho. Dark Age is not dead as of yet. My wife and I returned to DAoC three days ago. After playing every MMO under the sun. I mean actually playing every MMO we have max level characters on most games, 70's in WoW, 80 in EQ2, like 6 20's each in Guild Wars, 50's on CoH/CoV, you get the point. We invested alot of time in many other games, and to be honest none of them ever held a candle to DAoC's upsides. The community, RvR, questing/PvE, are all still top notch in DAoC.
So we decided to give it another shot. For the past three days I have had a blast in Thid, and even gaining some levels on alot of my lv 40ish toons.
We have level 50's in DAoC but the fun of going back to see everything with updated graphics was so appealing we just started Heretics and went from square 1.
While in Thid the past few days, I have spoken with around 40 people on 2 different clusters that have said they are just coming back after 1-3 years vacation from wow and other places.
The rumors of DAoC making a come back may not be just rumors, in the last week alone it gained 40+2 that I know of which is a great thing.
I hope it stays around for a long time.
For anyone thinking of coming back or just starting out, if you need to reach me in game or my wife info is below.
for my taste there are way to much "must haves" in the game
while making your way to lvl 50 with one or two chars its not much of a problem
in the lower battlegrounds its no problem too
but after you have hit 50 the pain starts
no spell crafted armor ( which cost realy much platin ) ?
not that special droped ring ?
not buffed by a buff bot ( the thing i hate the most ) ... would a realy player invest all his points into the buff line ?
if the answers to that questions are no then you have bad luck because your ( just for example ) lvl 50 warrior in his shiny new epic armor gets beaten to death by any wizzard ( who would answer yes to this questions ) with his stick .. not even wasting a spell for you
yes its an overdone example .. but thats how it feelt for me

it was fun for a few months ( 2 or 3 i think )
but not for longer

For the buffbot... have you tryed the Classic servers? I play on thoses to avoid the use of buffbot..
And at the same time... no more artis on classic... so your epic isn't that bad for a "50 starter armor".
