May I suggest that offers that are area specific such as the recent
I recently got this email:
Hello chriswsm,
MMORPG.com is proud to announce that we have partnered with NCSoft to bring you an exclusive trial offer for City of Heroes/Villains including the all new Issue 11 free expansion - "A Stitch In Time!"
For anyone interested in giving this unique MMORPG a try, this is your chance! Our exclusive keys will give you the ability to create a new account and play for 14 days, completely free...with no credit card required!
Are you ready to get your free trial key? THEN CLICK HERE!
Now this is kind of interesting so I thought I would take a look. The link however takes me to the following page http://www.mmorpg.com/freetrials/cohissue11_trial.cfm?bhcp=1
Here it clearly states: NOTE: This trial is only valid in North America.
My Profile clearly shows that I am in the UK therefore strictly speaking I am not able to participate, I could use TOR to pretend I am in the US I suppose or I could find a local offer for COH/V.
Surely it is possible to target these offers to people in the eligible areas by using the data in their profiles to create region specific mailing lists. For example: North America / USA only / EU / Unknown etc etc
When you have a mailing for N America you would send it to that mailing list and the Unknown list but not the others. This would save unnecessary mailings.
An alternative would be to mention any restrictions to the offer within the email itself as well as on the web page. This would mean an unnecessary email but no unnecessary surfing or disappointment.
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
Comments
You can still participate in the trial, you just need to be aware that you need an US PlayNC account, and that you can only play on the US servers.
if you're looking for an EU trial, try out http://eu.cityofheroes.com/promos/freetrial

Thanks I will give it a look when I have time. However my point was more about the circulation of the offer rather than the offer itself.

I'll see about adding a disclaimer to the email

Already has a disclaimer. It's very simple to read, and takes 2 seconds to delete if non-applicable to the recipient. I see no need to go through every posters location to see if they qualify or not, when they should be able to do so on their own.
Edit: Ah, the e-mail itself doesn't say that, just the site. In that case, just add it to the e-mail message and mission accomplished.
That would indeed do the trick

Thats a good idea....if my wife had added a disclaimer about our sex life when we got married, i could've been better prepared. So, i totally advise it.....
