I played the trial but being unable to go to the mainland Im not sure if I should get a timecard. Whats so fun about that game? I mean apart from the things you can do on noob island.

Whats fun about any game?
Trial island is not necessarily an example of the best the game has to offer but it certainly gives you a view of what the game is about.
1. Adventuring doing quests
2. Collection quests
3. Spawned quest items and a good variety of quest functions. Kinda gives you some insite to the capabilities of the questing system at the launch of the game. These capabilities are even better now.
4. Crafting system
5. A bit about item manipulation that kinda gives you some insight into what it is like decorating your home. This is when you clean up the crafting area.
6. Solo mobs and group mobs
7. dying and the costs for that.
What it doesn't show you are the latest capabilities in the questing system which I'd say are outstanding and better then the very good questing system that exists in wow. It might not give you a good feel for the interactivity of NPCs where they call out when you walk by or where they interact with each other. It doesn't really show you anything about alternate advancement system or some of very far into the combat system for each class. A lot of them really don't come into there own until around lvl 20.
What I find that EQ2 does well is a really good questing system. Really well polished things like LFG and Guild tools. Collections and legends and lore type things. Decorating your room which is really pretty fun as well as collecting all the neat stuff to decorate with. Grouping is pretty good too where you gain quests while in a group and have a variety of things that keep groups together. One of the negatives about wow for me is that in wow there are no reasons to group other then to complete quests in a dungeon which are very linear and once completed done. This tends to kill grouping as a mainline game option up till you hit max level. Then the game changes into faction oriented, raiding the same raids over and over, and doing pvp...
Finally eq2 is different then wow and something new to do that makes it fun to explore and with all the expansions there is a boat load to explore and experience.

Thanks for the info. Now i just need to find a game time card.
Ya, EQ2 is like a case of herpes for me. Just when I think I'm done with it for good, I catch myself playing it again and again.
I kinda got more worried about your sexual habits than your gaming habits
Back to OP's question. I like the guild thing, since in EQ2 every guild has level like players, this makes the guild something to work on together.
I also like that every spell has different quality, which makes it fun to work on getting better spells and equipment to enhance your class. Its not like you get the next spell automaticely when you level (or you can just buy it off from one npc vendor). There is 7/8 difference quality of each spell, where the best is abit more rare compared to the lower quality ones.
I also like the combat system, I think its fun.

Leemeg.
You said you played the trial. A time card isn't enough now, remember to buy the game itself too.
Ah yeah. So all I need to do is buy EQ2 create an account with the cd-key and then insert a card? SO then the card is going to be the toupher one.
It's another alternative to WoW.
EQ2 is great game..... they really went all out with RoK
