Pegasus Server Problem

I am attempting to create a new soldier on the Pegasus server. I just got the game today and live in the Central timezone so playing with people on the east coast works the best for me time wise. Unfortunately *every* single name I try is in use by someone else. I have never had this much trouble using one of the ten names I usually use in MMORPGs. I have wasted no less then an hour trying to come up with a name that is not already in use and have been unsuccessful.

Haha. No, I have been able to use these names in every MMO for the last 6 years. I am attempting to create a character on the Cassiopeia server and running in to the same problem. I cannot find a name that is not taken even when trying to use the Random function.

I was not able to use the usual name i use in all my other mmos either. i did have it during beta though, so i wonder if maybe that is preventing me, although they deleted that character.  I think they should allow people to double up on first names as long as the last name is unique, especially considering the last name is the real identifier for your character.

just gonna throw this out there in case you're running into the name bug.

Last names are the only names that are unique in TR.  You can name your characters first name anything you want, but can only use that name once with your surname. 

for instance:  You choose the surname (last name) Aelric, you can use any first name you would like even if that first name is being used by someone else.

now, heres the current "known issue" with names.  If you create a character and delete it, that name may get hung up. 

For instance: You choose a surname Aelric, first name John.. John Aelric.  You log him in and decide you dont like it and delete him.  When you attempt to re-create John Aelric you may get the message that "name is being used by someone else".  Theyre aware of this bug, and the name will remain frozen.

There is also a bug in that once you choose a surname, even if you delete all the toons on that server to try and re-create them.. you might be forced to choose the same surname.

Thank you for clearing that up. I have been attempting to come up with unique first names. However this naming policy is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard of. As now I am trying to come up with a decent last name that is not in use.

probably also worth mentioning, when you chat it will be only your surname that shows up in the chat window, not the first name

so its a good idea to try and pick a surname that you want to be identified with across all of your characters.
