Hi there people!
I am looking for a MMO (even better if it's a MMORPG) that could go out of the classic scheme of mmorpgs.
What do i mean by that? Well it seams that at some level or another every MMO suffers from a series of problems: Grinding, L33t speak, The hero syndrome, OOC display, Munchkinism, and so on and on. I very much dislike them all. So what I am basically looking for is a mass multiplayer online game, based on exploration, where the term XP is not a must have, where the true veterans of the game are recognized as veterans not because they’re level 70, but because their cumulated game time is what it is. As far as grinding is concerned, mobs drop no items, nor xp, nor anything by that matter, maybe expect meet and materials (skin bones). The game word should be vast and hard to cover.
I also dislike the Hero Syndrome, because in every game (online I’ve been) everyone wants to be the best, it's an ongoing competition that ends with the players leaving the game in end game because after grinding for countless Hours to be the best, they became the best and now there is no were to go from there. The game creates the premise to the possibility of become truly great, but kills the enthusiasm exactly when it should boost it even more. I think it's wrong approach. Tempering with puerile minds telling them that they have to reach lvl 70 for some reason, but after doing that nothing more happens, it's ratter stupid.
I am not going to talk about the RP part because RP-ing takes time, skill and dedication just like any other art, and this is a game that should be accusable, and fun. Still it would be nice.
So i would like to know if there are any MMORPGs out there that might resemble (even slightly) the stuff that i look for in a game.

Well I would try to suggest you GuildWars, due the fact the game has only 20 lvl and tons of skills,so ppl cant grind much there. There are few instances where players look for crafting material and items but yet its not like in WoW for example. The game is free of monthly charge(you'll need to buy the game box only) and is mostly PvP/Cooperative Mission Oriented game...
Second game is Saga of Ryzom, which has a good community and a nice crafting system, monsters drop crafting material-you craft from them armor and stuff, wich you can later sell or use.Game is set in SciFi/Fantasy world and has even a realm builder feature :] [which I enjoyed personally].
Other and the last game I can suggest is EvE,there are no levels, only skills and in this game you can beat a battleship with a simple ship so the game is "player-skill based" and another good feauture is that this game is player driven.
I hope I helped you in finding a game ^^
giv Voyage Century a go
i'm not sure if accounts can still be made or not, but try Ryzom, and also as dangerous as it is to give as a suggestion, try SWG as well.
good luck finding the game you're looking for.

Honestly, just about the only mmo's (sorta) that I would consider unconventional are A Tale in the Desert and Second Life. Now not saying those will be your cup of tea (god knows I hate Second Life) but they're both about as different as they come. Ryzom, and SWG, while excellent and on some levels innovative, are still just your usual MMORPGS, kill stuff, get experience, go up a level, repeat several times.
ok guys thx.
I got into eve, on the gallente federation and will see how this turns out. It seams ok for now.
After a lot of trial and error i managed to make my self an ff online account. gonna check it right away.
Guess my dreams will have to wait.
