Are online and offline characters seperated?

Can you have one universal character, or is it like diablo where you had one set of characters you could use for singleplay and lan, and another set you used on battle.net?
If it is the latter, do you get also the subscription content when playing singleplayer without paying the sub?

Yeah, they are separate. Dunno about the subscription content for single player, probably not.

Allright, I see. It would make sense if extra content and updates were available in singleplay, sort of like you could play all armies in Dawn of War Dark Crusade offline, but only the ones you'd unlocked with a cd-key were available online.
Do you know if you can still play lan with the singleplayer characters?
You can play single player online and pay no subscription fee. Since there is no LAN and you want to play with your friends, you will have to create online characters. Just make sure you play on the same server.
As far as subscription content. There really isn't much now that non-subscribers can't get so not subbing isn't a big deal right now.
