If you traced TR all the way from the time of its announcement then you know it has been almost completely re-done. It has been in development for too long. They just had to release it since there was no other choice (As the game nears completion there usually is more talk about money than anything else. Especially if the project lasted for years and has already been delayed for long enough).
And bugs is something that will always be there after release. And don't take other games into consideration since it is just that, other games. Someone does better someone does a bit worse. Give them some time and they will fix it. Give them some more time and they will have more content. Although i am not playing the game myself i heard there are bugs but not that many. I have seen tonns of releases and judging by the lack of big commotion this one was done quite well.
Does anyone remember releases of AO, AC, SWG ? Hell do you remember how VS was when it was released ? I was flying through the "world floor" in wow many times after release untill they finaly fixed it. There was quite a number of quests you could not finish too.
When WoW was released, it was not a complete game. I remember they offered bgs and a few things that didnt make it to release, it was added later on with patches.
Stop bashing WoW. Yes, WoW was a complete game at release. It had more content on release than 95% of all the MMORPGs out there today. Like all good games, they've added content over time. To me, PvP was better at release than today. The open world pvp was great. Out of all the new content since release, they only charged for TBC box. NO game is the same 3 years after release as the day that it launches. Your $15 a month pays for patches and content upgrades.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I agree that PvP in WoW was better in the beginning.
They need to add ranking back in, add dishonorable kills back in to stop ganking, and double/triple the honor gained from valid kills in open world PvP
As for TR, it's a good game. But it just lacks the "magic" needed for me to keep subbing. I feel like I'm just playing, but can't really find a reason. I feel the only thing I am doing is working towards leveling, so it feels very grindy.

I curious as to what exactly is missing that you feel it doesn't have that specific hook for you? Just from the comment though you kinda describe the same ride most MMO's take users down anyways (level, level more, and level some more). Maybe try out some roleplaying clans, or get into a PvP Clan for some competitive wars.
“I love people like the OP his has selective memory.. Wow had just as many bugs and just as many lag issues. Its just been so long that you forget all of the problems Wow had because its on fresh on your mind..”
Unfortunately this is NOT the issue. Performance, driver and optimization bugs are unavoidable to some extent on release to a large consumer base . . the diversity of hardware, connection types, and unexpected load has to be dealt with post release. (though good planning can mitigate allot)
I say again this is NOT the issue.
We are talking about Polish and basic core feature completeness. YES mmo’s evolve . . but you pay your $50 for a complete game, then the $15 @ for sustaining and continued development.
People above asked what are the core features?? That is not a simple answer as it changes with EVERY release of a game. But unless the game advertises it self to be a “lite” version of that genre the bar rises with each game. TR own communications make it posable to track some.
The AH or consignment officer . . this was planned before release and can really be a major game changer (quality items may be more available, Money may now mean something, drop rates may have to change, etc). most other games where this exists it is a core feature that is functional at release. This is a prime example . . Also what about crafting? They got it too rudimentarily to work JUST before it went out the door. And it is ½ baked but they did get it in - clunky at best. . PVP again they got it in but NO polish . . and every review states that it seems a after the fact addon. Does the game really need it? Might be a better question. So this is more ambiguous . . . and so on
What these point to is there are things that did not make it in as the core game but where planned (and widely known) and there are quite a few things that did make it in but barely and will have to be overhauled . . . these issues alone point to a rushed to release game with a “fix it in post” attitude . . so by definition it lacks polish that other games did have at release.
This “issue” (for people who have short memories - or short lifespans) has already been brought up with single player games and the advent of the easy internet patch . . “why make sure you have a complete and user visible bug free game, when you can just fire off patches?” This got very bad and you almost could not buy a game with out immediately having to download a massive patch - or 5 just to be able to play the game as intended. . . this is less common now and games that release unplayable even with a immediate patch get hammered in reviews (note again, Driver and networking are a bit of an exception here, since it is a moving target - these tend to be small patches anyway - but can really effect some people)
You, people may have missed the part that I AM in the industry, we do relieve programs before they should and have an entire bag of Crap we hand customers to allay there complaints. And fan boys are one aspect that allows the management to get away with this to the horror of the developers and QA!
This is done to make $$ and the more we can push off on people with ever lowering standards the more we can sell crap . . . demand better programs and they will come in very short order . . . but buy crap in large numbers you will only get crap as “choices” in very short order.
Again having said all of that TR is not BAD, it is just very lite and unpolished . . . and like I said they have a bit of a ramp up time before people just up and leave . . so they need to get going . . . but sticking your heads in the sand and saying everything is happy happy, or that everything else is “bad” so it is ok for TR to be . . . is childish and naive.

Just from the comment though you kinda describe the same ride most MMO's take users down anyways (level, level more, and level some more). Maybe try out some roleplaying clans, or get into a PvP Clan for some competitive wars. I'm just curious though.
I dunno.. it's just, I don't have that motivation to log on that I've had in other games.
Like I said, I really do think it's a good game, they've done a lot of things right... I dunno. I really can't put my finger on it 100% what it is...
I partially blame Mass Effect. It's just too good to put down..
But I just hit level 15 and went Ranger, I enjoy polarity field very much.. but I just can't find motivation to log on.
You want to know why it was released now instead of later? Because the publisher wanted to start seeing a return on their investment. Even Blizzard wanted to delay WoW a little longer so that they could add more content and features to it, but Vivendi told them they need to get it out. It's not always the developers that decide when a game goes out the door, the publishers / investors have quite a bit of say too and they don't seem to really care about game mechanics. With that said, I've enjoyed the game thus far and I do see tons of potential. Hopefully within the next few months we'll get an idea of what they have planned for the game.
Thats what it all comes down too.. they want that money. This is a corporate business thing at the end and its all about revenue and i believe they had already delayed its release, probably more then once... though "making" people pay for an unfinished product is somewhat "wrong". And even though you're not playing a "full" game you're still paying the full price, which is kinda funny.
But we make this choices out of free will or simply not knowing.. the ones that dont know, those are the people who i feel sorry for. not the people who know but do it anyway.
TR is going to come along.. I have no doubt about that but if u start now while its unfinished and burn out on it b4 its finished.. do u really get ur "moneys worth" from the product? Thats my argument. Its very very objective.. I know.
Keep in mind that this game went under a massive design change. It was pretty far along in developing a swords/elves type game and they scrapped that and redesigned a sci-fi game. I think this game has been in the works for about 5-6 years? Don't take my word for that as I am not entirely sure. Someone else can answer that question who followed more closely than I did.
In a sense you are right though. There are things still missing in the game and I suspect it is due to the design change above.
UMM Tabula Rasa has been a sci-fi game since day one I was one of the first to register on their site just so i could beta test . You really shouldnt talk if you dont know what your talking about.

Gio, don't be so quick to insult. He's right. TR was VERY different. Youtube has some video of the designer explaining it. It was more Elf unicorn sci fi type. Had Chi power, and mental attacks using gliffs. There really were unicorns and player owned Islands. You started the game on your own island. This is fact. Look it up on youtube. I think the video is from E3 2004. Maybe 2005 I don't remember offhand.

You could have just asked why I thought this instead of being all knowing just because you signed up for a beta application. Here is a youtube of it from E3 2004. I should have been more clear that it was more of a mish mash of swords/elves, sci-fi and I think a house plant.
There is a good article about it here www.massively.com/tag/destination-games if you want to read up on it. I didn't know about it until not to far back myself.

The game you are seeing in that video is Aion also in production by generation games or whatever it is if you compare the two speculation was missplaced when this video was released and the announcment for TR was made hence causing the confusion . This game was never a fantasy game sorry . Aion does look like a cool game however but that is the video posted here.
