Its already out, in a better, more realized form, that is getting a huge graphics update tonight ...
{Mod Edit}
That is all, and I hope you make the right choice!
Comments
EvE = point and click everything. no independent movement at all.
Jumpgate Evolution = Actually fly your ship, allowing for real combat simulation and allowing use of joystick flight controls, as well as a cockpit view.
Plus J:E has everything else EvE has as far as trade/mining/etc.
Gameplay > graphics any time.
So you are waiting for this game just so you can fly your ship, as that is the only point you brought up.
Maybe a flight simulator is more worth your time.
And from what we've seen with TR, trying to merge FPS elements ( flying your ship by joystick ) with RPG elements just doesn't work. The FPS elements end up getting dumbed down due to people who dont have the FPS skills complaining that they keep getting owned.
Frankly, I'd rather lose my ship to better tactics or better fitting than the other guy getting lucky with his joystick.
Well, to each his own I guess. I'm quite enjoying EVE at the moment, as I can keep progressing while I am a hermit because of exams.
Good luck.
EVE felt like WOW with spaceships to me.. I really couldnt stand it. I'd much rather a game that requires skill and movement than a point and click kid friendly game...
You just called EvE kid friendly?
Nothing wrong with EvE for what it is. Nothing wrong with liking it, either. I intend to check out a trial after Trinity goes live, and the launch bugs (you know there will be at least one, it is an mmo after all) are squashed.
Just if given a choice between point and click or actual flying skill ( plus the bonus of just enjoying the view from the cockpit as I travel/fight/mine/explore), I'd have to go with J:E over EvE.
Also, trying to advertise EvE in the J:E section is like trying to advertise WoW in the EvE forum. There's gonna be trouble.
Oh, yeah. I can feel the rumble....................

Vendetta online has been out for quite some time of you want twitch combat. You fail to mention the massive scale EVE's universe is. It is much more complicated and diverse.
SHOHADAKU
HUH?!?
LOL what the hell game were you playing.
EVE is the most diverse complicated MMO out there with real loss in pvp. A massive universe where your corp can take sovergnty of different solar systems.
Jumpgate does not have EVERYTHING EVE has and EVE is NOTHING like WOW or anyother MMO out.
WOW with spaceships LOL I never heard that one before. EVE is the TOTAL opposite of a WOW type game. You couldn't get more different.
If you don't think it takes skill to play EVE.....you have no clue how to play EVE.
As for the comment of just orbiting your enemy...LOL you got alot to learn if that's how you fight.
SHOHADAKU
Can't blame me for trying... gimme teh killmailz!

Its funny lately I find myself playin skill based mmo hybrids over the traditional stuff. I'm currently playing Freestyle basketball which although the graphics may be a bit dated its great to know you won because of your player skill. Yes the game has lvls but often lower lvls can beat higher lvls because they are simply better as a team.
The other game I play frequently is Drift City and its a racing mmo. Again lower lvls can beat higher lvls if they know the track better or simply outrace the other guys.
Its really refreshing actually after so many mmo's that are simply select target and auto attack. I'm probably gonna take Jumpgate for a spin around christmas it looks really interesting and does address one of my issues with EVE which was the combat was a bit hands off and slow at times.
This post made me laugh!
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I guess if all you did is do the tutorial and a few missions it is possible for someone to think this, however after about a week and a taste of PvP, even if you die in a frigate, you will be hooked I assure you....
EvE = spacecrack, for me at least...
Both games have their merits. I'm of course going to say that Evolution is more fun simply because I am working on it. However, with that said i think that you're going to see some really big differences between the two games.
I played EVE for quite some time and I like the fact that people are going to be a bit more equal in Evolution and not be handicapped because you haven't been playing as long as the first plaers.

Well, I'll have to give J:E a try when its ready, should be interesting, but point of order, I've only been playing EVE for 9 months, and I'm don't feel that I'm handicapped, I hold my own though I certainly wouldnt go up solo against an experienced Vaga pilot (I'd bring a friend or 3 and we'd own him)
But a joystick? Eww hope you have some other control schemes, I'm not going back to joysticks
Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!
The handicap is there for new players for sure, but its really not that bad, as has been explained in numerous forum posts all over the EVE boards.
The time it takes to get a skill to Level 4 for a Rank 1 skill is roughly 2 days from Level 0 while the time to get to Level 5 from Level 4 is roughly 5 days.
This fifth level gives one quarter the bonus as the first 4 levels for over double the time invested.
For example, if this is a turret skill, the advantage of having Level 5 in the skill can be easily nullified by your opponent getting the first shot.
Also, with some execptions, namely ships, the 5th level is not needed to use modules and rigs, only the 4th.
In conclusion, if you specialize and train your skills evenly, you can become powerfuul in a short period of time.

PS: I'll leave the JG:E forums alone as soon as EVE is back up, so pray CCP does a good job.

You can use a mouse and the arrow keys to move. You don't need a joystick. It's just an option.

Ok, because some one has to say it, and as I have played EVE off and On for 5 years (yup was in the beta)
The real diffrence in battles will be:
Battle in EVE:
Trolls: Look here come someone. he's alone -scan him- Good he is running t1 equipment- 3 to 1, lets take him!
Battle in JG
Trolls: Look there is a lone pilot, there are 3 of us, what do you think is he a better pilot than us? --- We better run.

I personally would rather loose to another player because his player skill than the fact that he was just overwhelmingly more powerful than me and i never stood a chance to begin with. I love the rpg element because of the character / ship progression it brings, and like to see my hard work pay off in a tangable way i can measure and look upon with a bit of pride and feeling of a job well done. But i think in any form of competition, the persons skill and ability to do the thing he does should always trump his gear, rank, level or whatever.
HEY Nicole, Community Manager of the game posting here, that's always great. I live in the Springs too, and need a job where i don't have to quit gaming lol. Are you guys hiring any testers or anything atm? And do you perhaps do any hiring personally?

Ah, too bad. Thanks for the link though, i will check it out. Too bad i don't actually have any related talents, i just play the games and i guess i could be a QA tester or something, but it doesn't look like they are looking for testers atm. I do however have the NEED for games, i practically live them, lol. Hopefully they will be looking for testers sometime soon because i can't think of anything i'd rather do than work for a good game development company, and not having to move to Texas or California for the job is a big plus.
EVE is one of the deepest games I have ever played. It has a beauty (not just graphically) which I doubt will ever be topped.
However, I would happily give up a little depth for some more action in my flight/combat. Something along the lines of Freelancer with even half the depth of EVE will keep me happy for a long time.
I'm sure the devs of J:E will check their coding more thoroughly than those "coding" Eve, therefore noone will have to wonder if their computer will still work the next day.
Add +10 to J:E over Eve.
How many developers work on EVE? How many programmers work on EVE? Ok, now how many work on Jumpgate Evolution? 10 total with 5 programmers is the last thing I have read.
Comparing a game the size of EVE with one like J:E is hardly fair.
