Important TOPIC: Servers

WoW has 4 server types...if I remember correctly

RP-          Wierd people who talk funny

PVP-RP  wierd people who talk funny then talk even wierder as they kill you

PVE         Just want to explore and have fun

PVP         Want to Kill everyone and Own

Will War have servers where there is no where to hide except in a city or town???

What it looked like was RVR areas only and you can laddy da around and not worry bout getting killed.

One off topic question? Can Tier 4 Players come to Tier 1 Areas and fight??? Gonna guess NO.

So is this doing away with noob ganking? that would be sad...

    If you were to take the time and read a few other threads you may realize that this topic has been covered numerous times...But in an effort to educate the impatient I will repeat what has been stated multiple times before.

     Yes there will be 3 server types in the beginning and RP is one of them.

    Open RvR - PvP anywhere except newbie areas

    Core - General server, PvP only in designated areas. Can flag for pvp or will flag you if you enter opposing controlled areas.

    RP - Roleplaying. Functions like Core but with this stipulation.

     They also said if the demand is high enough they will possibly add Open RvR RP and FFA servers in the future.

    As for those who prefer the narcissistic cowardice ways of "Noob" ganking - a system has been set in place where players who enter RvR type areas that are below their own tier will be turned into chickens/chaos chickens and they will only be doing 1hp damage per peck.

    I really hope you're serious about this because it would be the most hilariously awesome thing ever.

    Ochie, I can tell you that role players are not weird . What the role playing community consists of is a group of people who actually deepens the immersion factor for themself and others by taking on the full aspect of their choosen character.

    Now, the may talk funny based on their character's race and class but that's just part of the immersion of becoming the character ingame. YOu have to realize that they usually are talking no difference than the NPCs ingame (if they do role playing right) and have a whole story around their character that everyone can enjoy when read.

    While I myself am a role player, I tend to go to Role playing PvP servers where I can play out the scourge to the goodie two shoes of the servers and kill without any predjudice if a race I am at War with encroaches on my race's territory (I play a Dark Elf in Vanguard and EQ2). Do I talk funny as I am killing or being killed by gankers or all out enemy races "maybe" but I can tell you this, it plays for a better PvP and I often get hailed for it by my enemies (they know I am having fun).

    Now in the aspect of being weird, there are some Role players who take their roles a little bit overboard such as kicking you from the guild because you didn't know what their epic/legendary sword's name was or a person made a mistake and said "WTF" once out the 2 years of being in the guild but these individuals can be described as "die hard idiots" (difference between role playing and role griefing).

    A good majority of role players do cause problems among non role players by not communicating at all with people outside the circle (putting the whole server on ignore, turning off general chat) but that to is another story that probably can be best described by someone else with time on their hands.

    On a note, I find that pure PvPers are the weird ones out the bunch as I have always though a person sitting in a "newb" area killing individuals 60 levels under them for hours on end had to have some weird no lifed person behind the keyboard.

    No reason for such a negative attitude about role players, lots of fun can be had by letting yourself go and enjoying the experience.  Best time I ever had in DAOC was as a member of Shadowclan, a only-kobold guild who had its own bastardized "kobo" language and always stayed in character in game.  (instead of telling folks you had to take a bio break, you would say "mih hab tu fynd bushi"

    Of course the tree-race folks we eventually partnered up with resented this...

    If WAR ever has a FFA PVP server I'm really hoping Shadowclan will be part of it.

    "natevoni" has answered this well, but I will reiterate.

    ~ Will WAR have servers where there is no where except in a city or town?

    Yes, most likely.  On the Open RvR servers, you will be perma-flagged for PvP, meaning that whenever you encounter the enemy, you can fight -- anyplace, anytime.

    ~ Related question -- Can you fight anyone, even realmmates, on a server?

    Not yet, but it is a possibility.  A completely open FFA PvP (DAoC "Mordred" type server) may or may not be included after retail release.  Sidenote: Since only one Mordred server was ever needed in DAoC, the demand for such a server seems to be perennially small.  My guess is that an FFA PvP server would be "low priority" but a possibility.

    ~ "La-Dee-Da" around and not worry about getting killed.

    "Core" ruleset servers will have "safe" areas -- at least, safe from PvP attack (unless you choose by some action to flag yourself for PvP in a PvE zone).

    "Core" ruleset servers with distinct areas for RvR (PvP) and PvE will probably be the most common and plentiful.

    ~ Can Tier 4 players come to a Tier 1 area and fight?

    Yes.  On Core ruleset servers they will literally be turned into chickens (this is probably a heavy symbolic indication of what Mythic thinks of high-level ganker-griefers in low-level zones) who can do 1 point of damage per peck.  On Open RvR servers the "chicken game mechanic" will not be in effect, but low-level starter zones will be exempt from PvP attacks; however, once you leave the starter zone you are "fair game."

    ~ Noob ganking?

    Excuse me -- your vocabulary is incorrect here.

    Newbie ganking is what you mean.  "Noobs" are actually the ones who are doing the ganking.    The "gankees" are newbies.

    So, by definition, if you want to gank newbies, you are, in fact, a noob, and will be reviled and branded as a nutjob-asshat by all other players.

    But -- the question remains, can you do it?

    Yes.  On Open RvR servers you can -- after the newbies leave the starter zones.

    Please be forewarned that there are players who frown on this behavior and will be available to hand you your ass if you enter low-level areas to gank the newbies.  (However, you are welcome to try.  )

    (Note on practicality of newbie ganking:  Ganking newbies produces little if any Realm Points which are needed to acquire valuable Realm Skills.  Newbie ganking will be counterproductive to anyone wishing to advance in RvR ranks and skills.)

    ~~~
    Special note on RP "wierdoes."
    Some of the best servers, by far, are the RP servers because players "get into the spirit of the game" and really make it more fun.
    Yes, there is a downside.  They tend to chat a lot and use long, long narrative emote strings to describe their actions.  They also tend to put about 90 percent of their chat into double-parens (( OOC )) which can be a bit odd since most of what they say would NOT be considered "OOC" in the first place.
    However, if you can swallow that lump, RPers and RP servers can be hella fun.
    The RP servers tend to be very, very HEAVY into Realm pride.  Some of the most intense RvR combat will be found on RP servers -- and, depending on demand -- some of those RP servers may be ORvR RP where the action will probably be fast and furious.
    Not to be a negative nancy but common, "Will war have RP servers?" is an open and active thread on the very first page of this forum where they discuss this same topic.
    Anyone who actually enjoys ganking is a truly sad, sad person.  I do feel sorry for you.
