Can you guys give me some advice. Im looking for a good Korean MMO. The things most important to me are:
1. Class variety (hate games with 3 classes)
2. Game where everyone does not look the same
3. Either no pvp or choice pvp. No forced pvp.
4. Good mix of quests and grind.
5. Players speak english.
6. Nice loot variety
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I dont think you will find game from Korea that clasificate in those points....
More EU/US Games like EQ2. FFXI got lot of classes, but characters are looks like everyone "Atack of the Clones"
Relly hard to advice...
Finding all those points in 1 Korean MMO would be near impossible.
If you could rank in terms of importance that would help. Most Korean MMOs will excell in just a couple areas then lack in others(mostly character customization).
Rappelz has 9 classes(split between 3 races) but lacks in customization and quests
Perfect World has one of the most comprehensive character customizers ever with a great many quests but has 6 classes between 3 races and Im not sure it even has PvP.
Dream of Mirror Online has an incredible multi-class system(pick a main class then choose skills sets from several other classes) and great questing(many quests have cinematic cut scenes) but lacks in customization.
if you want better examples narrow down what you need to have and what you could do without.
Looking for a korean mmo....
QFE!
LOL, I specified Korean because ive played all the Mainstream mmo's. I hate Raiding and dependancy on grouping. What I like about most Korean MMO's is the ability to solo hunt at will and play casual. Also they tend to focus more on diablo style loot farming which I enjoy as well.
If I had to narrow to 3 things I would say it would rank:
1. Class Variety
2. Loot Variety
3. Class customization.
Quickly someone, get a doctor for the OP!!! STAT!!!!
If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list.
Ok ok I get it. So basically the math is:
Good Korean MMORPG = Oxymoron / Non-existant.
Rappelz is currently at 15 end game classes, 27 in total if you count the intermediate steps. It fails on point 2 ( From level 50 up you have your choice of a grand total of one armour model and two color variations at best ), point 3 ( You can be PKed at any time, there just is no penalty on most servers ), and point 4 ( Quests start to dry up between 30 and 40 ).
Class Variety is a huge narrowing point. I can only think of 2 with a wide class variety and thats Ragnarok Online and Goonzu.
Ryl2 Incomplete union, it is a great free mmo, not sure if it is korean, i think it is, but anywho, it has all the stuff you are looking for in a non-western mmo, it isnt listed on this site, but if ya google it you will find it.
playing eq2 and two worlds

Yeah basically =/. I think they've got some great graphics (some of them like L2), but that's it. I think Korean devs could go alot further with mmo's if they didnt release one every five minutes. Because great gameplay coupled with great graphics could give them a great name, since everytime someone say's "oh fuck thats a korean mmo (which means it is shit)", someone will say "hmm well that one korean one was great, i'll try this one too".
Doubt it though...
Well personally I'm don't think any MMO is much more then a grind and timesinks with any real meat to them, Western or Asian but I get your drift.
There are some changes happening though and I would say "maybe" Aion might change this stereotype. I am looking forward to seeing if it does. If it doesn't, oh well...its not like it will be the first time an MMO doesn't deliver.
Also the OP might want to look into "Perfect World".

Hopefully the impact of WoW will make asian MMO makers start to focus more on quests and variety in the grinding. With that and beautiful graphics like L2 and RFonline, it would be a winner amongst the crap out right now
Also the OP might want to look into "Perfect World".
Perfect world looks pretty cool. Almost seems like a western mmo. Is it solo friendly?
Also, I recommend playing it to mess around with the character creator, very good.

Thanks I'll give it a try.
I agree with what others have said and will say Perfect World.
Also if you like anime style graphics I would say try Dream of Mirror Online (Domo). It still has a few bugs yet but it has a unique class system and very good quests. IMO if you enjoy the anime graphics it is even better than PW for gameplay.

Lots of cultural bias on this forum, you'll get used to it.
Well iv been in the closed beta for Shaiya online and iv got into it a great deal and it seems to fit your requirments for most points.
It doesnt have the best customization though but its still better than most.
The pvp is a battle ground sort of style so its upto you if you want to fight or not.
98% of the community are English speakers.
It has 6 classes and different factions (light side and fury side) and there are also subjobs.
It is quest and grind based, you can do either, or both together to level the fastest.
The most intersting thing about Shaiya is the difficulty modes, i will list them for you.
Easy - You get twice the EXP as in normal mode but you are capped at level 30 and get no special skills.
Normal - You have access to all special skills and at level 50 you unlock hard mode.
Hard - You gain more stat and skill points per level than in easy/normal mode and are therefore alot more powerful. Leveling is slower though. At level 50 you unlock ultimate mode.
Ultimate - Ultimate is the same as hard in leveling pace, but they get a bonus to there special skills BUT if you die in PVE in ultimate mode, you only have 3 mins to get rezd by a healer or your character is gone for good, its for the most extreme players only.
Note it is totally upto you which mode you want to play in. Most will just aim for hard.
If your interested, check it out here.

Its going into open beta very soon.
Have fun

And by "quests" you mean go kill 10 green goblins.

I agree with him and it has nothing to do with culture, simply the fact that everytime I got sucked into an asian grinder (or their European clones, disposing of the culture thing), when the spell wore off, I felt like an empty, burnt-out husk. I can only be thankful I didn't give them any money.

Yes it is cultural bias and silly stereotyping. There are over 100 korean mmorpg's, have you played all of them? No you didn't, so you just put 95% of the korean MMO's in the same basket as the few you did play and just stereotype all of them. that is cultural bias.and European clones? Sorry, but what European clones? Europe barely has any mmorpg's, I think you're confusing with european versions of asian mmo's.
Sword of the new world maybe? I Beta'd that game and it was very nice looking.
Cal
Rofl. During the beta phase, this game was actually considering a retail box, monthly fee, AND a cash shop. I'm not sure what went through for the release, but the game isn't even worth a cash shop IMO. You could simply afk near some mobs and level to 50 (max) while you sleep.
Perfect World is Chinese, thats why I didn't post it. If you really want some good opinions about Korean mmos then I suggest going to http://mmosite.com because there are alot more Korean mmo players there, as well as alot more news on Korean mmos. Here its predominantly US/EU made mmo players.
Some people hear don't appreciate it, but its the Korean MMOs coming out now that are really pushing where mmos are going. If you look at all the western releases aside from a handful, they are all just cloning the EQ-model again but with influence from WoW. On the other hand you have Huxley, Reqieum, AION, Ragnarok 2, and Granado Espada coming out of Korea that change the genre, the PVE systems(Class, Quests, Leveling), the combat, the pvp, and many other things that Western developers simply aren't touching. Ontop of that they are releasing actually complete games that run well. Sure it may be missing things but I think its more a sign of developer maturity to pick your battles and do them well rather then tackle everything and do them mediocre. You can always add that stuff later. There are also quite a few other mmos that aren't as publicized and released for years in Korea that aren't getting imported here and would do well.
