A fanboi count can be interesting, but will not necessarily result in the best game. Still it will be interesting to see which game still has the most followers, or in the case of future releases: believers.
While I respect the the staff for coming up with these "choices" for us, next year please have another option listed "None of the Above" in each category. Really, some of those "choices" you gave us just plain suck. On a side note, it wasn't your fault. We've had a pretty bad spell the past few years.
Iwould have used that option a few times myself.
I totally agree, even if the situation is not dramatic as last year.
Im not bothered by eve's little oops they screwed up my files so bad i couldnt even boot my computer from boot menu lol fixxed now buy i have never played a mmorpg wich has put nearly as much effort as CCP has into making their game so enjoyable.
P.S CCP has apologised several times to me and given me exdended subscription for free
just been reading thread post's and omg some of you guys moaning about us eve bois spamming are votes isnt it obvious that you mmo's are so outdated and boring that the increase of new players is minor in comparison to eve where many many new player join on a daily basis and there's so many option in you in game life that some people make seperate accounts just to do other things. if u can slate eve online maybe you should try the 14 day trial here's the link tfor all you eve haters atleast give it a try secure.eve-online.com/ft/
I also am of the opinion that all qualifying games should be listed to be voted on, and not only 'selected' titles.
I also wonder at the addition of Second Life, what next MySpace on the list?
If we're not able to vote 'None of the above', please offer some way of reporting our lack of support for the few 'selected' titles.

Umm they canceled Shadowbane a while ago... so yeah I guess its 'free to play', free to play with the CD and empty box.
i find the paid expansion catorgary a bit crap as some games like eve online do not pay for there expansions but are just as forfilling as paying expansions
None of the above would have been the winner for pretty much all votes. That is why it wasn't added. Not much of an award annoucment if there is no one to single out for the award. Maybe someone should make a game called "none of the above" the title alone would win them game of the year almost every year until some descent titles come out.
"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
added SIXTY new solo quests for 30-40 (beyond the free raid content thats usually added) -- and retuned adventuring under level 60 for both gear and experience.

Might wanna keep up with the times. Shadowbane may be dying, but it is not cancelled.
Most Anticipated is without a doubt Darkfall and that the forum devs decided to leave the most anticipated game of 08 out of the voting list just shows that they are biased towards games that have a close relationship with their own website.
Nice and pathetic mmorpg.com you guys are really losing touch with what the mmo community is really "anticipating".
The lack of Darkfall defenitly makes me ignore this whole voting as its a sham anyway and this website is really getting lower and lower on my priorty list of sites I like to visit.
I suspect that EVE will not fair so well this year, with the voting coming immediately after their little 'oops'.
Eve should never have won all the awards the last 2 years its all the idiot Eve Fan bois who come on here and spam up there votes So don't be surprised this year when they abuse the vote system yet again.
Yeah heaven forbid that a fan of a game vote for their game. Oh wait ...
I don't see why so many feel Second Life doesn't fit other than the EQ-clones have been so prolific that people think that's the only typeof MMORPG.
Second Life is Massively Multiplayer. It's Online. People roleplay - in very scary ways, but they do it. It's a Game - an activity providing entertainment or amusement.
Grinding, levels, and raids are not the defining features of an MMORPG; they're just the most common.
I beg to differ. It's not a game. There are no objectives, no goals, no winners, no losers. Let's get truly anal about this, shall we?
Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe.
~See where it says 'game'? Neither do I. It even refers to participants as 'Residents', not 'Players'.
While Second Life is sometimes referred to as a game, this description does not fit the standard definition. It does not have points, scores, winners or losers, levels, an end-strategy, or most of the other characteristics of games, though it can be thought of as a game on a more basic level because it is "played for fun".
Bottom line: although there are many similarities, and I can easily see how people may think it is, SL is not a game, and should not be represented as such. This being said, I proffer that it should be removed from any 'Reader's Choice' award solely devoted to games.
Everquest 2 got my vote when it was shown. This game has really come a long ways and is now just awesome fun and enjoyment.
Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!
You might as well have included Darkfall, at least it has far better concepts that any of the games released this year and the chances of it ever seeing the light of day is remote at best.
Pretty sad when you have to vote for the older games as the newer ones are complete trash.
As long as people with 1 post are allowed to vote on these things, they're is absolutely no reason at all to even think about taking it seriously.
As long as you sit there crying that an MMO has players who like it enough to vote for it, nobody will ever think about taking your 'arguement' seriously.
Being an 'elite' member that you are, I'm sure you think that your MMORPG forum whoring should give you, or others like you, more power and voice. I've used this site for years and only decided to vote for anything last year, but don't care to use the forums here except to reply to people like you.
A post count doesn't mean anything (hell I was one of the top posters on eve-o last year). You're bitter that people will come here and vote for a game they like, and that they just vote, they don't sit around chatting it up. That's really just too bad for you, and you're going to have to swallow that bitter pill. The only reason you won't take the votes seriously is because you disagree with them.
If your favorite games win the votes, you won't give a damn how they won, you'll just be happy that they won. I can't help but pity you. You're hating people who come vote for a game in a reader's choice award, and you decry them for not having a high forum post count, as if one must post on forums to read about something.
For the next vote, I strongly suggest you just list every single MMO that fits the category. Who cares if MMO of the year has 439865237 entries? I know making the poll will be alot more work than what you do now for them, but you'll get an outright vote and people won't be able to whine that MMO X or Y wasn't listed for something it should've been.
And ofcourse, a 'none of the above' for every category as well.
WoW with Patch 2.3 added SIXTY new solo quests for 30-40 (beyond the free raid content thats usually added) -- and retuned adventuring under level 60 for both gear and experience.
That's not an expansion, that's a patch. If you're going to get technical like that, some of the listed games would've had to have been listed several times, for their 'expansions'.
2.3 isn't a WoW expansion, burning crusade is a WoW expansion. You didn't just get some quests in BC did you?

Go EVE and EQ2
EVE for just being the best pvp game and EQ2 for the best pve!!
overall not a very strong bunch of MMOs this year either.
Im suprised at the small number of games choices with free updates
only 5 games?!?
EVE Online
Vanguard
City of Heroes / Villains
Lord of the Rings Online
Lineage 2
both WoW and EQ2 offered substantial *free content* in 2007
EQ2 added in a free update
- a new starting city, Neriak
- a new race
- a new adventure zone DarkLight Woods for levels 1-20
eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:LU35
with over 100 new quests
WoW with Patch 2.3
added SIXTY new solo quests for 30-40 (beyond the free raid content thats usually added) -- and retuned adventuring under level 60 for both gear and experience.
EQ2 fan sites
LOL!!!!
Very surprised to see Star Wars Galaxies wasn't even considered for Most Improved. The difference between last December and this is startling.
Powers &8^]
Vanguard

Wiktionary says:
~SL has neither pursuit nor rules (besideds a starndard EULA or CoC).
Second Life itself says:
~See where it says 'game'? Neither do I. It even refers to participants as 'Residents', not 'Players'.

Evil will always win, because Good is dumb.
