Geez... CCP, worst company ever

triketrike Member Posts: 83

I gotta say, I can't imagine anyone wanting to play EVE online.  Developers who cheat in order to help their own guilds, and now the boot.ini fiasco, where installing a patch actually destroys your operating system.

What's worse is the insulting "apology" from one f the Devs.  As I understand it, this is the same guy who used his all-access status to cheat.  The fact that he wasn't fired for that is simply mind-boggling to me, and now he's responsible for the boot.ini issues.  Nevermind that he's not taking any responsibility for it, he's actually blaming the players for being stupid... as if it's their fault that their computers were bricked because of his screw up.

I just can't imagine why people let CCP get away with this stuff.  Cheating, hacks, and now unapologetic destruction of your computer files.  Tell you what, I'm never going to play any CCP game, ever.

Here's the "apology" where that cheating Dev rips the paying customers:

"AN APOLOGY CONCERNING THE BOOT.INI CONFUSION reported by CCP t20 | 2007.12.06 19:01:08 | NEW The last several hours have been difficult for me, as I was required at the last moment to cancel a vacation that I have been planning for several weeks. But I feel it is important to address the problems that have arisen, regardless of whose fault they may ultimately turn out to be. I also want to express my sincerest regrets for the inconvenience associated with these events, although the glitch only affected a small minority of systems and even those which were affected could be fixed with no permanent damage in a matter of minutes with a quick fix familiar to all those who routinely maintain their systems. I am particularly disappointed by the effect this has had on users who, for reasons of their own, neglected to keep their Windows XP recovery CD with their equipment. I know that there are many of you who did not purchase a pirated copy of Windows but still had trouble of this nature. It is unfortunate that all of these factors combined to form a "perfect storm" of difficulties. Most of all, I want to ask that everyone allow me to move on with the business of making Eve Online the best MMO it can be. I hold no animosity toward those of you who asked for my dismissal from the staff without first possessing a full knowledge of the facts. I hope that we can all acknowledge our own responsibility for what has occurred and put these events behind us."

sounds like an apology to me. i was affected by this bug, and he is right...it is a very quick and easy fix. if someone is unable to fix it, they shouldnt be using a computer in the first place.

Hoax.  There is no such post anywhere on EVE-O that I was able to find by browsing the forums and I can't find such an article anywhere in the dev blogs.  Furthermore it doesn't pop on www.eve-search.com (which isn't run by CCP) so it was never on the forums as far as one can tell.

Provide a link or quit trolling.

Altho i wasnt affected by this to say that if someone cant fix it they shouldnt be using a PC is just plain ignorant.. I wouldnt know how to fix it .. I build houses and pay people to fix my pc if its needed same as a PC guy would call a contractor to fix his collapsed roof .. We dont say ohh he cant fix it he shouldnt be living in a house ... LMAO .. get a grip.

There are a few fairly well off people I know who can use their computer to do stocks, check emails, and do work for their companies, but I am fairly doubtful they have any idea how to fix it either :P

Aside from the obvious fake information provided to us by the OP... CCP, the worst company ever? Really? It wouldn't be Enron, WorldCom, or even HealthSouth? What's your rating system.

    Nope.

But i`d say that someone who owns a house should be capable of fixing small things like a disfunct light or something similar. You cant call someone to fix everything..
(ohnoes, my son broke some dishes, i have to call 911 to fix it!)

Thats a bit like living in a house and not closing and locking the front door at night because you didnt read the manuall telling you how to do so because you feel you dont have to worry about burglers because the thats the polices job!!!

Next time read the manual with your comp and make a boot disk.

The boot.ini file is something most ppl will never ever need to touch. You can be able to use a PC for very advanced tasks without having to know much about the OS at all.

Comparing this with changing light bulbs, that's retarded.

Its a bad mistake, but its over and done with...time to move on... and always keep a recovery disk updated for your system.

The issue that arose was due to this much code: "."

    That's it,
people make mistakes, they went out, solved it and informed people as good as they could,
get over it and start cleaning up your own backyard instead.

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

  • I've played games put out by worse companies.  SOE had the same problems with CSR abusing their powers in SWG.  In addition, the transition from CU to NGE was very shady.  I mean who puts out an expansion to cater to a class that they plan on eliminating a few months later.  On top of that, they attempted to get more sales by advertising the expansion for that class.

CCP, at least, attempts to improve the game.  Look at Jumpgate; they are putting out a new game with a complete overhaul of the graphics engine as a sequel to their game.  CCP overhauled the graphics engine for high end computers, kept an additional client for low end computers and did not make a money grab by trying to sell it as a new game.

No offense to Jumpgate fans out there; I just saying that CCP is not a bad company.  Sure, they have made some bad decision here and there, but most MMO companies (actually most companies period) make bad decisions.  CCP, at least, attempted to address their developer abuse situation and have not shown themselves to be overly greedy.  Nor have they done anything to my knowledge to outright cheat their customers.

More then angry, I'm puzzled by the OP's post. What is the point of doing this flame-bait post, other then just trolling? And isn't this awfully complex for a trolling post, when there are a lot of easier ways to spark a flame burst from the folks regularly posting on this forum?

I imagine OP is actually under the delusion that any players playing EVE actively detract from whatever game he so lovingly plays, or that CCP is some evil empire he needs to personally vanquish. It's more sad then anything else.

As for worse companies, I can name several. Personal hatelist includes Symantec (for Norton), Microsoft (for Outlook Express), DNA (local ISP/cell phone service for general crappiness)... Lots of other corporations that have managed to outright amaze me with their lack of intellect and/or customer service in any way. CCP doesn't even come close to the ineptitude I've experienced from Symantec, and this boot.ini failure is minor compared to the damage one of their Security Service packages did to a computer I had to then subsequently 'fix'.

2 different situations. if you had any idea how easy and quick it was to fix, you wouldnt be saying that. all you had to do was insert your windows xp boot cd and it would fix it basically automatically. IF someone cannot do THAT, they are a moron. enough said. (and if they dont have thiers, that is just as stupid)

Well, I had my first chance to really sit down, since the patch, and play some EVE. When It first came out I was kinda overwhelmed, plus I was really busy at work, so I didn't know what to think.

This is a major improvement     Thank you CCP!  I love how versatile and responsive every thing is now. The customisation; The graphics!!! EVE is a much improved game. My hats off to you for a job well done.

It is great isn;t it, but with the patch has come the worst lag ever in and around Jita...   750+ people in Jita and perimeter is now regularly seeing 150+ people and trade spam aswell now

Love the update, hate the lag...  We've even moved our corp hanger away in a hope for things to get better

Don't go to Jita. That should be the #1 advice for every tutorial and tip system in EVE.

Jita is a lagfest, and it's arguably also the single most dangerous high-sec system. Because there are so many targets, suicide gankers and random-wardeccers (Privateers, for instance) abound. If you have a war on, odds are you'll find an enemy at Jita 4-4 station.

Only go to Jita if you can't make it by doing anything else. I usually schedule around 20 minutes just for the travel times from outside Jita to the 4-4 station, because I'll be staring at an empty screen for up to 10 minutes while the system loads, and again when I dock.

Avoid Jita, and your EVE will suddenly have a lot less lag. There are other noteworthy trade hubs, such as Scolluzer in Gallente space that don't have the problem of that lagfest. Often you can even turn a better profit there, if you are patient enough to wait a bit for your stuff to sell.

Honestly, I was wondering about that. Everything I have seen so far has been much more responsive, but I haven't been in any situations where lag would be a problem. I guess, for me, the question is are the upgrades going to make lag a bigger problem. This could certainly be the case, but so far my game has only gotten faster. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

The Op provided a fabricated quote of one of CCP employees, which can not be found anywhere (not eve-online.com, not eve-search.com) and with this argumentation he tries to convince us that CCP is the worst company ever. Posting outright fabricated stuff in order to tarnish someone's reputation is illegal in most places. I'm surprised that his "quote" was not yet deleted by forum moderators.
