Another damn "should I come back thread..."

Hey all,

Like many of you, I followed Vanguard way before its release, was in beta, and was terribly disappointed with the end result.

Now a year later I am wondering if this game I had such high hopes for is worth going back to?

I have a couple pointed questions about it and those are:

Has the performanced improved since I quit (mid April)?

I have upgraded my rig significantly since I quit, however my brother is still playing WoW on his P4 with 2gigs of rams and an AGP 6800 GTS... Vanguard was playable for him before he quit as well, will he see any improvements if he comes back?

How is the PvP?

Are there terrible imbalance issues with regards to classes? If I end up going back I will be PvPing. Any input here would be helpful.

Is there anybody out there?

Particularly on the PvP server, is the population pretty decent?

What kinds of things have improved?

Have there been significant steps forward with this game from SOE? What does the future hold going forward?

Anything else?

Is there anything else I should consider before jumping/not jumping back into the game? Any input is greatly appreciated. I know that some of these are pretty loaded and controversial questions, but I will take any constructive feedback. Many thanks!

I can tell you that performance have improved a lot. SOE is planning a new update that she claims that will improve performance even more.

I dont play much at PvP server, sorry. Can't help you on that.

Population is good after the server merges, including PvP servers.

SOE have made really good improvements on the game and is planning more game modifications and performance improvements. Some of them are going to be applied this month.

I played beta like you, and like you did, I quit right after the beta ended. I came back in october, right after game update 3. Game have improved much after beta ended, and in my oppinion it has improved a lot since them. Its a game worth trying.

I think it is definitely worth returning to if you enjoy

    1. World Immersion

    2. More Challenge
    3. Complex Crafting
    4. Diverse, Varied Class System
    5. Intense and Fun Combat
    6. Innovative and Different Gameplay:  Diplomacy
    7. Slower Leveling
    8. Death Penalty with Slight Sting

    Performance

Since I have installed another gig of ram to go from 2 to 3 and installed a sound card with surround speakers, my performance has been about perfect.  I still hitch a bit when I zone to a new "chunk," but that is literally it.

My performance is consistently 85% to 95%.   I am very pleased.

    PvP

I thought the PvP was an unmitigated disaster.  I thought it was a non-workable system tacked-onto a deep, immersive PvE game.  I would suggest, strongly, against playing Vanguard if you like PvP as your primary focus for MMORPGs.  [Some might enjoy the FFA server, though.  I am not one.  I have Unreal Tournament 3 and keep my PvPing to FPSs.]

    Improvements

Many and varied improvements:  1) performance, 2) content, 3) classes (some nerfs have been over-kill but others have been appropriate corrections), and 4) other.  Raiding in addition to other features should be implemented with Update 3; I have even heard performance will improve more.

    Anything else?

Do you have a sound card?  After installing a sound card, my performance has significantly improved.

[I would consider perhaps waiting until Update 3 is implemented.]
