Or was that the other way around?  : P

Yes, Imps used to place them around our city for fun and name them silly shit. We would send out a Rifleman to remove them and it usually took him a while to hammer away at the things. If anything it was just a small annoyance. Being the oldest and largest guild and city on our server we were also open trifling attacks.

It was early on that this happened. I think it was like the 3rd patch, maybe 2 months after launch something like that.
I log on that patch day to find my house with its resources, 2 vendors, and other supplies gone. I go to find my harvesters and fusion generators, everyone of them gone.
Turns out thousands of players this day lost everything.
I turned in a ticket and a few days later I get a response that SOE doesnt reimburse players for lost items but they were sorry for my loss bleh.
I decide okay I'll start over so I get a small house and plant it. I then try and put in a vendor but I get a message saying Im at my max capacity and cant place any more vendors. Turns out the missing house with its two vendors are still counting against me. Later I try and place some harvesters but the missing ones are also still counting against me !
I turn in another trouble ticket. A week goes by, SOE responds with another junk message saying sorry they dont reimburse items, wtf ? They didnt even read this ticket.
I go to the forums and post asking for help. I get nothing. Finally Im forced to call tech support. I get told its being looked into and please be patient.
Another 2 weeks go by, Im literally dead as a crafter since I cant place any vendors in my house and I cant place down any harvesters.
Finally a CSR comes on one day and does something to fix this. But oops, I still have one lot missing. He says sorry, maybe after the next server reset it will resolve itself. It does not fix itself.
I repeat the above steps, asking for my missing lot back. Everyone gets 10 lots, Im stuck with 9.
I cancelled the game. My guil broke up over this as well. We were a crafting guild town and this destroyed our Mall we had set up. We lost all of our resources and since credits were still hard to come by back then we couldnt afford to replace them or the many structures we had lost.
I returned like 3 months later after receiving an email from SOE saying a combat revamp was in the works (lol, little did I know it would take another 18 months for that revamp to happen and it would destroy the game). Guess what, I was still missing that lot ! I finally got a CSR to come on and fix it, course I didnt get any compensation for being short one harvester each resource spawn (i asked for some resources since I was always getting less than everyone each shift). The answer was no as always.
To this day I am stunned that such a devastating bug could happen on any MMO. In fact Ive never seen one worse and Ive been playing MMO's since Ultima (and this includes many small MMO's that were just awful). To log in one day and find every single thing you owned completey gone and to see SOE say sorry for your loss but suck it up was gut wrenching.
Man that is simply wretched.  It is also, in my view, the main reason that this game was bleeding subs.  Bugs like this were huge, and the responses from the support department just added insult to injury.

This reminds me of a crazy not so funny bug that came out shortly after the NGE.  The respec "gift" that players were given.  When you respeced, it put you to level 1.  The initial response from support was: sorry we can't help you with that.  After a couple of days they took the dumb thing off line and tried to fix it.  A while longer after that, people were given back their rightful level, if I remember correctly.  Respec "gift" yikes.

Shifting focus from bugs that made us cry to bugs that make us laugh (in hindsight).  Here's a poll of the ones that gave me a chuckle.  Feel free to vote for your personal fav ^_^.

Lol there's a bug in the bug poll.  I just proof-read it.  The item that says, "ships lauching without pilots" should read, "ships launching..." :P

We chased a jedi to his house and he must of sat down while hiding from us because he slid back out the front door.  We were all standing outside bitching because he escaped us and then there he was sitting in the middle of our group.

Sometimes I chuckle when other games get new content and there are a few known bugs to work out.  I often find myself thinking, "hey at least I'm still wearing pants." ^_^.

Dont know if this was so crazy, but the rubberbanding was a real pain in the behind. "Almost there.. doh!... almost there... doh!... almost there... doh!..." and so on for hours. Made the most level-headed person to a potential serial killer in no time.

Lol I remember that.  I especially remember swooping through a laggy city heading for one of my favourite crafter's shops.  I was so happy that I'd almost made it then...doh...back at the edge of the city again

I also remember swooping through built up areas and having the buildings spawn too slowly.  Sometimes I 'd find myself trapped between some buildings that spawned just as I arrived lol weee.

Happy Holidays to you as well, and all my SWG and MMORPG friends.

I posted some Bugs or funny pics of SWG in the galleries here:

http://www.mmorpg.com/photo/92dad00e-ad0a-4c08-b2cc-79ce61ec0a68 A screenshot taken during the GCW showing the wrong caption for a NPC rebel

http://www.mmorpg.com/photo/b0c82023-2397-4e17-bd25-1fd1a879926d this was during my 1st days playing SWG.  That is a NPC Bothan Dimplomat taking advantage of a stuck-in-the-wall ATST.  I watched as he killed it.

Another thing was that players who completed the Imp themepark could go inside the emperors retreat even as a Rebel - I had a screenshot of my toon overt rebel toon standing next to him saying "cheese".  You would take an incap and a fine if you slapped a ST but nothing would happen if you smacked Vader.

Here's an old one I forgot about until just now.

Remember on Corbantis (I dunno if it happened on any other servers) when some people could drop a turret in a building (or was it drop a building on a turret?)

I remember our cantina on Dant had a turret in the middle of it. I'd sit inside for what seemed like hours waiting for an unsuspecting Imp to round the corner, and PEWPEWPEW!!!

It stayed there for a pretty good while, and then it was gone one day.

Played: UO, SWG Pre-CU (until 11/16/05), Various F2P's
    Playing: GW
    Awaiting: WAR, DF
    Never played: WoW

Yep, one of the most annoying bug for crafters where the one where you put a full backpack with newly crafted items inside your house and it ended up iside a wall. It could take forever for the GM's to get it out.

Another was when u where swimming and the water dissapered and u where flying in the air, happened qiute early.

And sometimes when u where out fighting with your guild on some dark and devastating place and got killed, your corpse could slide away about 50 feet or more,(like the one when u sat down) and your medic coudnt find you.

But my favourite one was when u had been fighting a beast(especially a krayt dragon) and you almost had killed it, and for some mysterious reason it dissapered and popped up a few hundred meters away fully healed and fit for fight again. That wasn't annoying at all.

Ye, I almost forgot about this one, sometimes when you where out driving your speederbike or swoop, it could all the sudden stand right up and point to the sky, and you had to drive around like that until you recalled it, or at worst had to restart the game.

Heh I remember that bug. Our city was right in the middle of one of those areas. Everywhere you drove in our town your bike/speeder would be pointing straight up. No amount of recalls or restarts would make it go away. We bug reported it so often that a GM finally came out to see what thebig deal was. After driving around for about 10 seconds, he fixed it.

Or the terrain would change suddenly. A rock would appear over you or the ground would change heights and cover your corpse.

Nobody's really sure how the hell it happened, but an unlooted player corpse from the olden days (July - August '03) managed to become a server relic for a little over two years, lasting through server resets, countless battles, rollbacks, and of course, the removal of player corpse runs from the game.
The corpse went on to become a legend. Go figure.

I remember this. We made a ritual out of bowing to the corpse everytime we landed there. The story of how he ended up dead there grew every year.

Ohh.. and there was the one when you had set up camp up on a hill or a mountain, and u was about to deploy, the ground changed back to it's original state and everyone floated in the air.

If I don't misstake it still happens sometimes, don't it?

  • BaronJuJuBaronJuJu Member UncommonPosts: 1,832

Not sure if that still happens, I'm sure it does though. Another one I thought of was when you pulled out your bike and jumped on it, it would appear that you were riding backwards.
