What's so special?

toxicmangotoxicmango Member UncommonPosts: 119

Aside from the interesting graphical style, what makes this game stand out and be different from a game like 9 Dragons?  Honest question here.

From my cursory glance, it seems to recycle the same tired game mechanics of levels, hp, mp, etc... repeated ad nauseum in Asian games ultimately concealing some sort of level grind.

So enlighten me.  What's so special?  Convince me that I want to play this.

You could not be more wrong if you tried fanboy.  It was precisely after looking at the game website that I found nothing special and decided to ask here to see if I was missing something.  If this is the kind of people this clone game attracts then it deserves to fail.  Congratulations on answering my question and earning your game some negative publicity.  Neither me nor my guild will be playing this game and I will be sure to tell anyone I meet not to bother with it.

What the hell?He just asked what sets this game apart from other mmo's, a valid question which I would like to know too, you unfortanutly probably just read the title and continued to simply bash the poor guy for no particular reason at all.

  • LiquidvisonLiquidvison Member Posts: 112

i think its funny that he replied saying he nor his guild would be playin and he will tell everyone not to play, lmao like that matters lmao....oh no a guild wont be playin this game omg thats gonna kill it...lmao both of you grow up and learn not to bash a game nor people just because they have an opinon

WTF the OP was not bashing the game it just looks when you read Zu's FAQ that this is the same as a lot of other games so he was wondering what they were going to do or doing to make this stand out.

Ppl, it's time for us all to understand that the only thing that makes a game great is its community - no matther how good the game is, it will flop if the community is populated by larget than life egos. This being said, I tend to agree on the fact the the official Zu website is offering very few info on the game's highlights. Yeah, I know the devs don't want to reveal everything since the game has not reached the OB phase yet, but still...

Ya know what i love about forums, everyone complains and attacks each other, but noone ever actually addresses the topic until at least page 2.  I would, but i was looking for the answer as well :/.

Look in the officail forums rather than on the game site. try this thread http://zu.igg.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=688&extra=page%3D1  i have gathered up most of the info on the game and posted it there.

Honestly there is none, played until level 20 and I got bored at level 10, and I played 10 more level just to be sure. After that I uninstalled the game.

  • trollbashertrollbasher Member Posts: 18

Lol considering the game has only been in Closed Alpha testing untill now The majority of the games content was not implemented you could only play 80 lvls out of the 300 and the skill cap was set to 30,  you didnt get to see vertually none of the game there is no way you can draw any conclusions from that, this game is completely different.

  • patrikd23patrikd23 Member UncommonPosts: 1,155

That depends on how many games you played and how many alpha and beta tests you been in. You can see quite alot by playing to level 20 and then draw some sort of conclusion about it.

  • trollbashertrollbasher Member Posts: 18

I have tested hundreds of games from in all phazes of testing from the very beginning of Closed Alpha where the game is nothing more than an empty map with a chat channel up to release. And i went right through this Closed Alpha test,

in the ammount of time it would have taken you to reach lvl 20 you will have seen vertually none of the game  or any of its features or anything, this game is unlike any other game out there, and since Open Beta is starting on the 14th thankfully people will be able to see for themselves what this game is like rather thean listen to people like you who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah you gotta love it. :P I should point out though, I too have no intention of addressing this topic even on page 2! You wanna know what the games like? Play it tomorrow and decide for yourself.

"I have tested Hundreds of games.."... uhm, yeah, ok.

Anyhoo, I love these pre-launch arguments.  Man, wait.. no I don't.  I go to different forums of games I want to get info on (like the OP), and all I see are mindless arguments like this.

    This games sucks.

    No it doesn't.

    Yes it does.

Like watching ping pong.  If I had to pick a side, I guess I'd go with the haters than the fanboi's.  At least they make a decent argument using real facts about the game once in a while.  I think...

I'm just gonna give it a fair test myself (hopefully in a few mins) and see for myself.  I have to say though, after as many Asian grinders as I've played, my expectations are very, very low.

Hi, sorry but about what you said that you reach lvl 20 and stopped the game, i think you were abit impatient to give the game more chance.

More game mechanics actually starts around after lvl 30, at lvl 30 u get pets and pets transform to mount at lvl 40. Pets get skills when you feed them equipments too. After lvl 30 u get points for skills talents tree sort of the World of Warcraft or Diablo type. Lvl 50 you get to upgrade your gears too.

In a way this game is different due to the max lvl capping at 300 so you gain lvl easily for at least the first 60 lvls. Almost completing every 1 or 2 quest gains a lvl. Just imagine killing a monster only gives 30~40~50 exp? one quest..... whaa la..... 10k..20k ++ exp. So its quite a quest based game.

So you stopping at lvl 20 and quiting is like playing a game where lvl 99 is the max lvl and your lvl was 20/300 = lvl 6.6 and you have seen everything....??

There is open pvp system too, 3 countries to select where you can infiltrate others and kill low lvl newbies or other countries npc which happened to me a few times...

Btw not a fanboi or hater of this game or trolling or bashing or flaming anyone, just wanted to give my opinions regarding reading these posts. Sorry for any bad english too.

    Thanks

Well, by your own admission, the first 60 levels are the the same ping pong questing that I think is ridiculous.  No thanks.
Also, I hate open pking, (that's not pvp in my book), as I think it's beyond mindless, and then you even said ganking (killing low level players) is totally allowed.  That's my most hated "feature" (or design flaw to me) in ANY MMO.  Ganking should NEVER be allowed, in any game.
I'm very done with this "mmo", and have no interest in "playing" it again.  Nothing else you mentioned sounds interesting enough to outweigh the flaws I've mentioned, and those that you just mentioned (as pluses to the game).

i think it is a worthy game. i'm playing it now and i''ve level 50, as for me, it's very interesting.

i think Zu is a unique game. i like gaining experience points by doing quests. we have to kill mobs too, but we mostly gain exp and items through quests and by easy events! there are many events in Zu. i also like the teleport system (flying), and the pets. we need pets to be stronger and it's really easy to look after them. we don't have to save up a lot of in-game money to buy equipment, because we obtain them by killing mobs or by  doing quests.

I want to reborn as a Sylvari.

Anybody who quit before at least lvl 50 is dumb. OF course the game isnt going to be that fun in the first 20 lvl its just getting you used to the function of the game even lvl 50 is a very low lvl after all there are 300 lvl in zu online but rite now the cap is at 180 cause of open beta. You would be a fool not to try zu.

As you can see, I'm not a big post contributor (just look at the number of posts); but nonetheless, I feel like speaking out because I feel that this game needs its justice.

Yes, I am a mmorpg fanboi going all the way back to Everquest I, Diablo 2, etc, and played almost all the open betas. I also agree that Asian mmorpgs can be repetitive especially when they dish out 918239014 different games a year. But this game is definitely different, and I am proud to say I'm addicted to it.

For those trying out this game, play until at least lvl 50. I got to lvl 40 in one day, and past lvl 50 the second, so it's not that hard. And let me tell you, I think the first 20 lvls were definitely the boring parts. For people just inquiring if the game's worth it, it's definitely worth a try. It's like a job interview, if you're not gonna do your homework, the company won't hire you. So don't just go into an interview and tell the interviewer how you are fit for the job when you don't even know what the job entails. Same thing with games, don't say it sucks when you only went to the website!

    How is this game different?

Unlike traditional mmorpgs built around grinding, this game is built around socializing and becoming a part of the community. If you like to solo, don't try this game. It's about teamwork, guilds, playing with friends (they have an intimacy system that forces you to play with a lot of people), and yes, territorial disputes, fighting other factions-- sounds like wow, right? Wrong. Like someone said previously, you can go into other faction's territories and pvp low lvl noobs; HOWEVER, that's what makes this game so fun. Because of the strong sense of community, higher lvl people come to aids, and help you kill the pker. The community is very active and friendly (with a few exceptions). I have never been in a tighter community than Zu  Online-- definitely an innovative move.

Finally, the quests!! The quests can be repetitive at times, but you have a choice to do them  or not. You can also lvl by grinding (for those who wants to know how, you can message me). But they also have other "extra" quests consisting pet walks, mazes, Questions, etc to help you take your minds off from quests and grinding and reward you very generously on exp.

Finally, the pet system. You can ride them, feed them, lvl them (adding stats to your character). You can also spend real money to get better ones which gives u better stat boosts (and if you're lucky, cool looks). What can I say, it's a pet system. Better to have it than not having it.

That's an extremely long post, so I'll stop here. But try it out. My in game name is billis (played for exactly a week and lvl 85); just so you know I am NOT someone hired by the game.

LONG LIVE SNOXD!!! -- my guild.

Pets are an absolute must in Zu. Without a full geared pet you stand no chance. That's why the higher lvl pet gear is so expensive - if you want to stay in the game and do something else besides chating with your friends YOU WILL BUY those items. All this aside, I must say I was impressed by the system, because for once these pets do something for you! I played a lot of asian games and I was quite fed up with temporary transportation pets or useless fighting pets (like in Hero - it's a pain to level them and unless they're high lvl, they don't aid you too much). At last a viable system that allows them to level up fast (btw, this game gave a new meaning to the party system - you'll soon become an addicted party seeker all the time: questing, boss hunting, pet walking, yo uname it), become a reliable transportation alternative (since you only get 3 free flights, they do come in handy - especially if you're a swordman - God, walking...eerr make that hovering...takes like forever), and most important they boost your stats a lot. Those visceras are also a smart idea because on top on all those buffed stats you can also change the pet's appearance.
