No thx, I can't take anymore Sword and sorcery MMO games. If they make a Diablo again I hope it's not an MMO.

I can guarantee you, it is not a diablo MMO. Diablo 3 is in development and it is an hack n slash, and the development is even pretty well advanced.

  • OzmodanOzmodan Member EpicPosts: 9,726

Well it might be a sci fi theme, but most definitely not using the Starcraft theme.  I mean, come on, no one in their right mind is going to play the zerg, and the protoss will not be far behind.   The game would be a flop if you had 75% of the players playing humans.

They could do a diablo MMO, don't see why not.  Be a lot safer than doing a sci fi theme as fantasy is still the big winner when it comes to MMO's

I just can't see it being a "World of Starcraft" MMO.

They'll keep Warcraft IP running as long as possible as their MMO title.

They'll keep Starcraft IP running as long as possible as their RTS title.

They'll keep Diablo IP running as long as possible as their RPG/Hack&Slash title.

So, that being said, either it's going to be WoW 2 or something new.

I just can't see a Starcraft MMO working... it'd be cool if it did, but why build Starcraft II and Starcraft MMO at the same time?

Umm. World of Warcraft was announced in 2001.

Warcraft 3 was released in 2002

Frozen Throne was Released in 2003

    WoW was Released in 2004.

It wouldn't be entirely crazy for Blizzard to be working on Starcraft 2 and a Sarcraft MMO at the same time.

LoL i loved this bit. Blizzard ahs never made anything MMO wise that could be considered a challenge. They just made a cookie cutter MMO with all the good bits and polished it till it worked. That isant challenging thats copying and Pasting.

THEN WHY AREN'T ALL THE OTHER COPYCAT MMOs PULLING IN 9 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS?

Blizzard made a great game.  Just deal with it.

Because Blizzard already had a firmly established fanbase within the gaming market and it was the first good new MMO to come along in a long time and a lot of established MMO players were geting burned out on older games. EQ was basically just surviving on lacklustre expansions that didn't add much new stuff, UO hadn't been a real contender for years and SWG was slowly being killed by it's developers and other games just didn't have enough content to keep people interested. Apart from these three (and maybe EVE) there weren't any other huge MMOs with thousands/millions of subscribers. The reason the recent copycats don't rival WoW is because they try to copy but don't offer any incetive to play them over WoW, why would you switch from WoW unless the new game offered some drastic improvement?

Yes Blizzard made a great game, but every statment that's been made about it from both the haters and fans sides are true. Unfortunately when you have to try and cater for every type of player the overall quality of the game begins to suffer, as the old saying goes you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please everyone all of the time. Or words to that effect.

I think they are going for a new IP, since they dont want it to be to similar to past projects. Hoping for a MMORTS, even though it will be a dumbed down game like all Blizzard games there hasnt been a AAA MMORTS. Which I think if any company could pull off it would be Blizzard after all 2 of their most successful franchises are RTS games.

I would not hope for an MMOFPS tbh ( along the lines of Planeside that is), it would most likely be like Tabula Rasa where its not an actual FPS. Since they want their games to cater to people who are not good at gaming in general aka casual players you can tell this by how dumbed down ALL of their games are. Twitch based gameplay just dosn't seem like something they would do.

Maybe a squad based tactical shooter though since it doesn't so much rely on player skill but rather knowledge, tactics, and team work.

I really doubt it will be something revolutionary Blizzard games never are. They usually take a good idea thats been executed badly or not as polished as it could be, then they just polish it slap a new name on the game and release it.

So it could be an MMORTS seen as how there has been a few attempts at it and none have been very good, or successful due to being poorly done.

Also because they have Battlenet players that would most likely jump all over a MMORTS by Blizzard. Which would easily eclipse any mmo ever released in sales/subscriptions just from name alone. 35-40 million people play their RTS franchises even if they are koreans that is a lot of potential subs ;).

One last note, It more than likely will be a different IP due to all the complaints they had for WoW about changing the story lines and killing main characters from warcraft 3. It also makes sense since it will give them to chance to develop an I.P specfically aimed at a MMO.

Why? because the computer of the average shmuck cant handle the resources needed by most of the newer games, wow can run on old computers enabling it to be more acessible for those who arent tech savy

I'd rather see a Diablo MMO than a Starcraft MMO.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

So my guess in this giant crap shoot is this.

1.) It will indeed be Starcraft.

2.) It will not be all sugar, candy and raiding like WoW. Instead I think they are going to come up with something interesting. My first guess is that it will be a serious PvP game. Kind of like Conan or DAoC with serious RvR involved. Maybe three faction RvR although I kinda doubt the Zerg will be playable. BUT! I think the next gen part is going to have to come into play here and I think that they are going to toss in some sort of RTS idea so that battleground commanders can do real time strategy and troop placement with those that are the grunts being given orders on where to go and what to do. Maybe similar to Battlefield 2142 where a commander is elected and can assign squad leaders with orders. Carrying out orders on the field would give you bonus rep of some sort.

Anyway, thats what I forsee. Who knows what we'll actually get. But I hope it isn't just a WoW clone. Blizzard is way better than that.

it will be starcraft done ala planetside style but with better graphics, more bells & whistles, and a lot more fun.  It will suck all the fps / starcraft gamers in, make gazallions of dollar, and replacing wow as the next mmo everyone loves to hate.

I look forward to seeing that Blizzard has in store for us. There are many, many paths this could travel down, you know.

    See...

World of Warcraft is massively successful. Blizzard's reputation is enormous - gargantuan, even.

The point is: As far as the MMO market goes, Blizzard can literally do whatever it wants right now, as long as they produce a REASONABLY ENTERTAINING GAME. They have market domination at the moment - they can be creditted, alongside a number of other game companies, with pulling MMOs into the mainstream market.

What's so important with them, though, is that they can presently afford to take risks. They don't have to carbon copy their own game while using another theme (Starcraft, or Diablo) to get by. If they really want to, if they want to take a leap of faith, they... can probably make it work.

Unfortunately, I doubt that we'll get anything terribly new from them. I'm sure it'll be fun to see one way or the next.

Its not next gen until death causes an electrical shock to your balls.  Then we can finally see some real hardcore gamers.

Personally blizzard know that its a race against time to get a top S/F mmorpg out. War is just around the corner and its going to be WOW main competition. Now imagine WAR really  takes off once people start hearing about the top rvr-pvp-pve .

Blizzard based starcraft on Games Workshops  Warhammer 40k just like WOW  was based off of  Warhammer Fantasy. THQ and GW have already beaten Blizzard in announcing a top S/F mmorpg and its called Warhammer 40k online.

    uk.gamespot.com/news/6166560.html

Its old news and in development as we speak..i would rather play war 40k than blizzards rip of version.

When WoW came up there loyal fanbase went with it..

If wasn't for that, I really don't think WoW would be at 9million right now..

If Blizzard made another MMO I would give it a chance as long as it didn't have the current level then raid model that WOW has.  In fact I think I'm done with all raiding MMOs now and that are coming out.  Unless raiding isn't the only thing to do.

Lets be honest though.  It doesn't matter what Blizzard makes it's going to pull in an ass load of people just because they made WoW.  Blizz is on Midus status.

  • DirossDiross Member Posts: 179

I sure hope Blizzard does this one with non-cartoon graphics. They made WoW a success and I hope they can pull another successful MMORPG off again.

Eve-Online, EQ2, DnL, SWG (Dead), Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, EQ, DAoC, Planet Side, WoW, LOTR, Tabula Rasa.

Must be a new IP, about time really.

I am really happy obout this, although I might be setting myself up for a dissapointment.

As said it has gotta be Starcraft MMO, it just makes sense.

Blizzard have a few IPs but are not known for releasing poor games, I cam pretty certain they wont invent a new IP and make an MMO in one swoop. Why risk it, 4 years dev time on a new IP is silly, especially when they are already at the top and releasing on a pre established IP has worked.

Starcraft 2 RTS is just out, 2 years time will be perfect timing.

WoW will still be going strong, they don't want to compete against themseleves so by being SciFi it

Matches, it will also allow em to night directly compete with Warhammer/ AOC.

I think after the fail of LOTR and TabulaRasa to an extent MMO devs understand that PvP is essential as I think that is why these 2 failed and why AOC/ WAR will succeed.

Come on pvp/sandbox based SciFi well polished game! (Eve is this but fighting in ships isn't the same)

    Crash Bandicoot.. or
    Spyro online

Oh look another original response from troll.

Blizzard take games that have been done before and polish them, then rerelease them with a different name. Their fanbase is also casual gamers who dont want to play hard games, or games based on player skill/twitch based gameplay for the most part. That is a fact even Blizzard nows this, if you dont like it tuff its what has made Blizzard money for the last 10+ years so why deny it?

As I mentioned in my post most likely any game that comes out in the future from Blizzard will probably rely more on tactics, and teamwork, rather than player skill in the form of fast reflexes like the kind you need in a FPS.

If they did come out with an MMOFPS game it would most likely be along the lines of tabula rasa where you dont actually aim you just lock on. And as I also said in my post a MMORTS would appeal to their fans as it requires tactics, strategy, teamwork etc rather than fast reflexes they also are known the most for their 2 RTS series.

Maybe actually read my post next time before you post your regurgited 3 liner you wont look so stupid then.

edit: just to clarify when I say hard i dont mean they dont want a challenge I mean they dont want things to be overly complicated since it will obvious take them awhile to figure out and if they are casual that is time spent where they could be playing with the hour or 2 they have to play.
