Question regarding the environment

I've never played the game and I've done a little research.  I've read a lot of posts and I haven't really seen this topic discussed.

Part of a great MMO is the environment.  PotBS has a great opportunity to use the marine environment to its advantage.  I there any marine life such as whales, dolphins, sea birds, kelp, schools of fish, etc?  It would be neat to be sailing with your boat and dolphins are cruising by the bow of your boat or to see a whale jump and break the surfice of the ocean.  Also, can you swim?  I've heard no but I don't believe that.. lol...
