smaller company with no pr departmeant

looks like a 2008 release since prestige classes got caught form release Xd or wont make it so if the waited until 2009 they could have them done so that points toward 2008 XD

It hasn't even entered beta yet, so no, it won't be out in 2008

    2009 at the earliest

ghoul it depends how beta goes if they get it as good as they say they are 2008 it can release

  • daarcodaarco Member UncommonPosts: 4,276

They aim to have the game 100% done when beta launches, much as LOTRO did. So we can hope for a short beta.

Just because it isn't in beta yet doesn't mean it won't come out in 2008, Stargate Worlds and Jumpgate Evolution aren't in beta yet and they are aiming for a 2008 release

  • ghoul31ghoul31 Member Posts: 1,955

Every other mmorpg has spent at least a year in beta, many of them 2 years in beta

So there is no way it will be released 2008

Yeah after what 5 or 6 years in the dev state it will be 100% done before beta and released then hope for a short beta and hope for a 2008 release?Man some people do tend to hold on to the shortist of short straws.

You think lotro was 100% done when beta launched, I was in beta for lotro since October last year, they had a long beta and they are a company with millions of dollars worth of investment.    Lotro was 90% complete when they had open beta a few weeks before launch, they probably had over 100 developers on that game, and you really think Darkfall is going to be complete, very much doubt it for this year.  This game is no way being released before 2008, most likely 2009/10  if ever.

tbh LOTRO did have a good release compared to today`s standards but you are right it wasnt 100% no game really is,Again there is no way anyone could compare LOTRO to darkfall for cash and investment wise,I guess like I said some people enjoy holding the short straw and dont want to give in to there 5 year dream.

That would be an accurate description, DF is an underground game being created by an small, Indie developer.

Remains to be seen if DF will launch or what shape it will be in ...but we can still hope.

Aventurine has about 30+ people working on the game.  It is not some massive army like WoW or other dev teams but it is enough.  Hell DAoc had about 20 and they produced a far better game then WOW with hundreds.  Who the people are,  and how well they are managed and care about their game is also important.

Yet look at the state of the game when it is released into beta.

This company isn't doing anything like regular company. They won't give an approxiamtive date, just to get some hype. Cause they know this would interfere with want they want; create a great game. I know that MMO aee always delayed multiple times, and Darkfall isb't in beta yet, but here again, you just can't tell, cause they might realy lauch the beat with a nearly complete game. Hell it could lauch in mars! But it couls also lauch in 2010. But I will lauch.

My point is, we just can't use our past experience with game lauch for Darkfall, this game is just too different. If it turns ot well, this game could be groundbreaking(in terms of quality).

    Not true at all.

DAOC was only in beta for about 8 months.

LOTRO was in beta for only a few months as well

EQ was only in beta for about 8 months as well.

UO was in beta for 7 months.

SWG was in Beta for just over 9 months.

MOST MMORPG's spend nowhere near a full year in beta.  So I would submit that if they get it into beta before say... march... odds are very good of a 2008 release if all goes well.

That said:  I'll beleive this game is going to be released when I actually see a beta start.  So far it hasn't so I don't really have very high expectations for it to be released anytime soon.

If they announce beta soon and start the beta before AoC / WAR are released, then I think DF has a chance...

I think after AoC and WAR hit the shelves, anything that doesn't already have a solid player base is going to be hurting.

Given DF's history, if AoC and WAR are succeful I don't think Adventurine is going to be able to find the funding they need to release or even attempt a beta.

All of this, of course, is purely my speculations.

POTBS has spent over 2 years in beta. And the game is still not ready

An you think a game with 10x the amount of features , with a small dev team can have a 8 month beta?

Hey Daarco, don't know where you got that information from.  LoTRO had a short public beta but many of us where in their real beta for nearly a year.

Very true.  People have no clue what beta is anymore.  Where you go sign up on a company forum for a chance at beta is play testing and not beta.  Are you a beta tester or play tester?  Ask yourself these questions:   How many companies have paid you to test their game?  How many AAA games have sent you an invite where you didn't request an invite?  How many times did you know a developer that enjoyed working with you on a previous project and got you into alpha testing a game?  Remember, there is a huge difference between beta and play testing.  What 99% of all beta applicants want is to play test a game.  There are very few people who want to actually beta test a game.

They would probably be better off having people pay to play the beta test.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
