Server locations

I saw in the AoC FAQ there will be servers based in the U.S. and Europe. Those who buy the game in Europe will go on the European srvers and those who buy the game in the U.S. will go on the American servers. You won' have a choice. They went to some lengths to mention that, although it might be nice to play with your friends across the ocean, you'll suffer a performance hit and playing on your local server is be far the better option as it facilitates the best gameplay for the most people.

My question is: what if you live outside Europe and the U.S.? I live in Australia. Will I experience latency issues which will spoil my experience? The FAQ would seem to suggest so.

I haven't trawled through the AoC forum here or the official AoC forums, so does anyone know if this issue has been addressed?

Haven't you guys gotten used to being treated like 2nd class citizens?  

Unless they put a server down under I suspect you can expect your 'usual' level of fine performance.

BTW, more good news, server shutdowns will probably be in your prime time hours.

Yeah I finally read a few epic threads on the official forum. The best that players from Asia/Oceania can hope for is a U.S. server set to GMT +10.

If I don't see any other games, I guess I'll still give AoC a fair go.

Since I am in australia, if i buy it here...  assuming it does come out in austrlia (i really do hope it does)  would I be put into the American or Europe servers??  In WoW I know that you get put into the American servers.

It will be out in Australia, rated MA15+ I belive. EB games there will prob  stock the US version. So where you buy the game from will be tied to the client and the game you play. Right now there is no word on Oceanic Servers so connecting to US servers will prob be the best bet anyways. Sit tight and expect more news to come.

Weezer, a regular poster on the Official forums and a member of Primal Fury ( an Oceanic Guild) also writes for Warcry.com (Mitra's Method - http://aoc.warcry.com/news/view/79650) He will be at the Funcom offices in the middle of January doing a Fan Site report. If you can wait a little im sure he will be bringing up the subject and will try to find out whats going on more.

OK, that has been on my mind for a while, because I havnt heard if it was coming out in australia.  It wouldnt make sense that it wouldnt, but you never now.

Thanks for that info too.  Ill be sure to check out Weezer's posts for any sign of the topic.

If I remember right I think Weezer actually phones the Austrialian ratings board for more clarification!

But yea, track his posts alot can be insightful to you coming from that area.

In the Acolytes we have people from all over, infact my favourite Aussie member is from Sydney.
