Rejoining Player (Few Questions)

Hey everyone,

Well right to it! I'm an ex-player back from "the good old days", I can't remember my account information nor do I really want it. I'm kind of just going to restart from the ground up in this case. I'm very aware I can get the information by contacting customer support. I did play a few times before with the new classes, but not with the newest race or the expansion.

Now the first question I have is which cluster?

It seems that the classic cluster is the way to go especially for population.. is this correct to assume?

Second off is where can I get into an active guild with TS or Vent?

Why Do they not Cluster the servers more?

It seems like it would only make sense to cluster it more since the population is so incredibly low, especially in comparison to how big the world is... and its even grown with the newest expansion!!

What is the Best Location to Level?

It always seems that DAOC has a "hot-spot" for exp'ing and usually its in an expansion area :) surprise surprise.

Regardless I hope that DAOC can kind of re-kindle my love for MMORPGS because I'm not a fan of  WOW, UO is Trashed, Eve Online I don't really understand (You spend WAY too much time watching your ship fly, and Vanguard Flopped. If I'm even HALF as in love with this game as I was when it came out, that will be more than enough for me.

    1.  No.  There is an original cluster with comparable population.  I see no reason to play on the Classic Clusters anymore.  There are two minor reasons one might want to do there.  There are distance restrictions on being buffed.  This is to cut down on buffbots.  But it also means that if you wander from the group too far (and it is not that far) you loose your buffs.  Huge annoyance I think.  Second, there will be more people starting out new characters are level 1.  This is nice in theory, but there is only one way in which a full group is better XP than solo/duo.  That is to have 8 people in a group and run a task dungeon (instance).  Other than that, until you get to much higher levels, grouping actually is the slowest way to XP the first 20-30 levels.  So I would suggest the original cluster with the largest pop.  Things will be better for you after the first 10 hours of gameplay.

    2.  Ask around in game.  Guilds do post recruiting announcements under Guild News: http://www.camelotherald.com/community/

    3.  Good Question

The world is large, but the fact is leveling is very fast.  Therefore most of the action will be in the RvR areas.  It is not as though if you had 4000 people on one server that 3000 of them will be doing PvE - which makes up most of the world.   But because of RvR they should cluster more.  They really should just have two clusters - original and classic.  Having one huge cluster I think would be a great benefit both PvE and RvR.

    4.  If you are doing quests, then run the quests in the Catacombs zones.  If not, then the original zones of the game are best.  There is a huge XP bonus there that makes it the best place to level.

Now the first question I have is which cluster?

I play classic cluster since i prefer it due to my play style. Classic server = a lot easier to get your final template and ready for RvR quicker and in my personal experience it is just a generally nicer experience. Also i notice the starter zones are very busy with chatter and leveling. I play on Albion on Lamorak server which is part of the Bossiney cluster. send us a message if u need help on there.

    ye as above

Second off is where can I get into an active guild with TS or Vent?

To begin with the classic/shrouded isles areas have i think 200% xp atm.

not sure on that fact but its not slow. The fastest would be to do tasks from taskmasters. These are like a dungeon where once completed you get like a bigish xp reward. well worth it imo. If you can get a pl group =]. but ye good luck

    One Final Question:

Are the changes to Archery on Classic Servers?

  • JulianDracosJulianDracos Member UncommonPosts: 1,528

I really hate the term classic.  Classic servers do not equal the classic game.  It just does not have the Trials of Atlantis expansion.  The result is that all of the changes on the regular servers are also here.  Further, the game is balanced around the regular servers and not the classic servers.

People claim that it is easier to get a template on the classic servers, but it isn't necessarily true.  You need to either grind for money to buy items, or grind to get the items you need.  That is unless you are in a guild that has people craft and spellcraft you armor for free/low cost.

With ToA, it is very easy to get the artifacts you need and in the process make a lot of money.  That money in turn allows you to finish out your template.  You also have access to a wider range of abilities with the Master Level abilities and artifacts.

Personally I play the classic cluster.

I'm going to say to try the NON-classic cluster first.  There is atm so much 3rd party program use going on in the classic bg's.. I don't think it would really inspire you to want to play much.

You really don't see any of that in NF's but then you are dealing with other bs.

I honestly thought most of this had gone away.  However, lately it was been worse than I've ever seen it.

I'm not sure if the ToA clusters are that bad.  I played DAoC since beta.. and that doesn't make me an expert.. it just means this isn't a conclusion I came to without much personal experience in the game.

Without friends to power level you.. pretty much the bg's are the best xp in the game.  However, that is why I say you might want to try the ToA server... because at times classic server is very irritating.

Oh I think you asked about the archery patch.. yes its live on all servers.

There seem to be more archers around than before.. but to be honest the patch was such a nerf to our dps.. I'm not sure why.  I had a Ranger that was 50 bow forever.  The damage I could do before as compared to after the patch... well I don't play my ranger anymore.

Well I do.. but I use it to power level things because its honestly faster than using my vamp.  Never thought I'd say that.. but yes my ranger can PvE like mad now (um yay?)

The changes to archery are on the classic servers I believe. The classic servers are mainly no /level 20, no TOA and ranged buffs as I recall

Good luck, DAOC is a Great game still.
