player cities...which games have them?

Hi Gamers...

I have played many MMO's, and am glad to see player housing make its way into many games.   I was hoping to tap some player knowledge...I am personally an SWG NGE refugee, and absolutely loved the player city aspect of the game. Can anyone tell me what other MMO's allow players to come together and build cities? Or at least any other games that have in depth housing? Factories, labs, merchant stores, lots???  Thanks for all your input!

I hear Age of Cohan is having something like this.

"Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions of men, and you are a conqueror. Kill them all, and you are a god."

upcoming game Age of Conan will have Player Made Cities, in PvP (Border Kingdom) and instanced PvE area's. There is a difference between the two though.

In PvP they are called 'Keeps' / 'BattleKeeps' and the design is similar to SWG grid layout system.

Full on player housing wont make it in for launch though. There are different buildings you can build for different bonuses.

PvE cities are solely that, and against an NPC mirror, and there can be a few player made / guild PvE cities in the area.

Expect more info on these to be released in January, meanwhile there is a little bit of information in this recent guide I made: http://www.stage6.com/user/AcolyteAvery/video/1953748/

You make the cities yourself / guild for both PvP and PvE ones, both are destructable, and you can pursue being an Architect more can be read here: http://www.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&template=content&func_id=1338&sort=PRIORITY,RELTIME%20desc&table=CONTENT

um eq 2 doesnt have player citites..

eq2 has a Common door in a random part of town that several hundred people share as theyre home door....

vanguard has designated areas where you buy plots and put your house there..

not sure about lord of the rings...

IF your question was if anything has housing like star wars the answer is no.. i am also a swg ex player and ive played just about everything out there... Nothing i have played is remotly similar to SWG for housing.  but Vanguard you can at least see your house in the world... EQ2 is just a glowing door in different parts of town you enter and it instances you to your house but you share that door with others..

    Sci-fi

Star Wars Galaxies has an awesome player-city system.  You can have taverns, a security bunker, factories, stores, civil structures, even public transportation.

    Fantasy

Vanguard has a plot system and guild hall you buy.  Non-instance.

so it sums up that most of ppl who play mmorpg dont really care about housing and player city since both games are at the bottom of the food chain right now.

I think this poster is thinking of player housing, not cities.

To the OP: Sadly, there really are none besides EVE. We can only hope for Age of Conan, as this is a feature widely overlooked.

i disagree.. i think it sums up that its cheaper to do housing in an instanced way because the code is easier. both of those games have major problems that good housing just doesnt offset

I think it is a stretch to make that inference.

I think it also depends on your market.  The less mature North American and European market and Asian market like faction-grindy games that have low system requirements.

The more mature North American and European market want a deeper and more complex gaming experience that entails player housing.

Yes Shadowbane has player made cities. And you can siege and destroy other guilds cities

For all its faults, romavictor is one of the few games where a guild can start with a flat piece of land and build a town  / village / camp upon it.
