Would you play an MMO if the world could be destroyed?

Now the concept I thought of was this. The world is dying due to new technology that produces emissions that are killing the world.
The world would be crafting based. The players would have the option to produce products that produce emissions that are killing the world. The items that are produced this way are cheaper and more powerful than items produced the 'normal' way. Creating incentive to destroy the world.
Of course if the world is destroyed then everything is lost and the world resets. Now what will make this more interesting is the longer the world stays alive the more content is opened up and more powerful normal and technological items can be produced. This is a never ending effect. This creates incentive to keep the world alive as along as possible.
There would be ways to increase the healthiness of the planet by creating (think wood elf) castles/settlements. There would be gardens and the like in these settlements, and with enough resources and time these 'settlements' can be made into huge (think wood elf) type cities.
Of course using the new technology that hurts the world you can create cities/settlements/castles that are stronger and cheaper to produce than the (wood elf) type cities. Thus giving incentive to destroy the world.
This world would be highly PvP driven as the players who wish to keep the world alive will seek to destroy settlements/cities that produce emissions that destroy the world.
Of course since using the new technology is cheap and more powerful many players will turn to that root thinking they can get a quick fix of power without damaging the environment too much. However I expect many players will fall into this trap and the world will become at risk of dying. Of course because of the ever increasing content and improvement to item strength as the world stays alive longer there will be a dedicated group and large group of players seeking to prevent players from using the new technology. But since the new technology is cheap and more powerful than the other items the player difference will be made up on those two facts.

Sounds like a game full of FPS equivalent of team killing. Every one wanting to be powerful and even some that want the world to die on purpose for the 'lol i destroyz da world noobz' factor.
