I prolly will get flame suit for this but in UO if I want to kill somebody atleast I can loot them...
In WoW you get nothing if you are 30 levels higher than me... So why is I am questing and at 1/2 health a level 70 comes by and 1 hit kills me? What is the point? Does their mom not hug them enough? Are they ridding the world of Horde characters(that respawn in 2 seconds).
I thought it might be fun so I ganked a lvl 12 human rogue and he died in 2 hits... it was extremely boring and didn't even get me 1 honor point.
So what is the point? I just picture some fat, 13 year old with horrible pimples that will never have a date, maybe he is taking it out on the world! haha

You play on a PvP server right?
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
No looting in UO anymore. Insurance took good care of that. PvP is different in UO now. I think you may get some of their insurance money when you make a kill.
I was wondering the same thing about WoW. I just started playing about a month ago, so I'm a total noob. I picked an RPPVP server. Thought this server would have less idiots/kids. Boy was I wrong...but thats a different thread all together.
Is there any benefit to random killing?? Not sure.
When I get high enough level I'm going to attack any alliance char I see.
And no I'm not a fat 13 year old with pimples. And yes my mom hugged me enough.
Simple answer is kids in WoW find it amazing that they can kill someone so easy, simply because they are 10 levels higher than you.
Even though there is no skill involved a child will still find this type of kill will give them an immense sense of statisfaction, it just what kids do unfort
Letting you level in peace lets you get stronger. Killing you keeps you down.
Its also probably revenge for all the times they were ganked.
Last but not least the age group in wow is teens. So you get a lot of angry kids that need to vent.
Thats the majority of the reasons your mostly getting ganked. If your not a fan, switch to a pve server. Its not nice, its not fair, but its a pvp server.

Get stronger for what? So... they can go raid higher dungeons in an instance? So they can kill more people in PvP? If there was a purpose to PvP other than getting bettter gear.. then maybe you would have a point.
I played for three years, had a 70 rogue all decked in epics..people did that sort of thing all of the time. Personally, I rarely ever killed anyone that was more than 7 levels below me. I gained nothing from it. Not even satisfaction. The only time I would ever do anything different was if I had a friend at a low level, being greifed by players closer to my level. I only returned the favor if the fight wasn't remotely fair for a buddy of mine. Otherwise.. I didn't bother. I was proud when I beat another level 70 was good gear. That pumped me up. Not killing someone 50 levels below me. That's like me being able to beat up an 80 year old woman or a 1 month old baby. It's just sick.
The correct answer is.. some little kid, getting satisfaction by killing someone that cannot, in any way, protect themselves. It makes them feel powerful. I hope these losers come play WAR and fight against people who actually know what they are doing. Oh yeah, are you serious about UO? Did EA destroy that game? The only good thing left was being able to loot people.

I have also notcied that alot of the people that spend thier time ganking lower levels in Tauren Mill and such are never seen in the outlands where they are matched with thier own level. Probably due to lacking the skill(best word I could think of, though skill isnt really what I'm looking for) to fight someone their own level.
I think its less of keeping you donw and more of being able to kill someone with no effort and no threat of death themselves. The kids/teens comment isnt exactly right. Though mostly this is the case, there are quite a few "adults" who partake in this kind of activety also.
Retaliation for being ganked when they were grinding is a big factor I think. But all in all there is nothing you can do short of running around with a group of 70's for protection cause you did, in fact, roll on a pvp server and that is what pvp is. Killing your enemy without reguard to any factors, including level.

This is not a problem with WoW or with kids, but with the PvP crowd. I recall it being the widespread problem in UO that crippled the games ability to keep new subscribers playing the game. By this I mean killing newbies who just set foot out of town who could not possibly have anything worth looting. It wasn't just restricted to kids either as there are plenty of adults who play this way.
It happens in ever game, because gamers are essentially the same no matter what game they play.
Whats wrong with PK now?
There's nothing wrong with ganking. I'm not a ganker though, I won't kill lowbies - but I fully expect that the opposing faction will play dirty. I play on PvP servers for the purpose of having an enemy to fight, an enemy I have a reason to dislike, and want to kill.
It's nice to actually have someone dangerous around.
So yeah, there's a level 70 going around killing lowbies. This presents an opportunity for someone to step in and chase him off, or corpse camp him for his sins, or whatever. It gives someone the chance to be a hero to all those lowbies.
This is the part of PvP that detractors don't understand, the part that seperates it from duels and arenas... actually having the potential to be EVIL for a change. Someone can do something bad to you, and now you actually have a reason to level up and match him, or gang up with allies and laugh at him.
You ask "what's with the ganking?" I say... Welcome to PvP.
PvP servers are the most numerous (on the EU realms), fyi.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
I love to pk people. I love to jump them and fight people one on one. I love to duel. Man versus man thing... the most skill wins. I also enjoy surprising people in random encounters while questing and patrolling contested zones looking for fights and helping people that are having problems... however
Don't pick a fight with the baddest guys on the block!
QFT + completely open pvp without rules or penalties for idiots is the worst idea ever.
My addiction History:
>> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
>> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
>> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.
I chose to join a PvP server. I like PvP but in a game with no rewards for killing low levels what is the point?
Do you really think if you kill me at level 35 and it takes me 2 more minutes to turn in a quest you are "stopping the other team". That is just retarded 100%.
UO is "full loot" minus you can "bless/insurance" items so you don't loot them. You can auto set them to re insure when you die. Really really bad.
I probably PvP'd more hours by myself on UO then 1/2 of you "billy BadAss" guys on this forum. I did it for hours upon hours upon hours for multiple years in UO. I even joined Siege Perilous and made more characters for PvP. I did guild wars, faction wars etc. Amazing good times.
It just seems like a very childish thing to just kill some low level while they are fighting a mob. How does that "affect" the horde vs alliance power struggle? It doesn't, it is pointless and stupid. Then you have the corpse campers. Those guys just have low self esteem.

Ganking is just one form of the more general practice of griefing. Griefing has been going on since online gaming began. If anyone could ever explain why people partake in the practice of griefing, they surely would be considered a genius. The fact of the matter is that there are a million different reasons why someone griefs and probably the only real explanation of why people partake is because they can. You can take out ganking completely and people will still grief. Ganking is not the problem, it's only a symptom of a much larger issue.
A WoW PvE server, where you can Flag-Up whenever is suits you sounds more to your style of play.
However, I can assure you that if you Flag-Up on Antonidas, and I find you, you will also be dead in seconds, no matter your level. You don't want to PvP, then don't Flag-Up.
Patroling the Barrens for Alliance raiders for over a year now.
Just for the fun of it.
well there's no death penalty so the only reward for world pvp is to greif the other faction into changing servers so that you'll have more of your faction to choose from to run raids. So more power to that guy, people that play battlegrounds all day long get less respect from me than that guy that ganked you.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
if I were to kill a titan tomorrow and no CCP employees showed up to say grats I would petition it.

I remember when I first started playing WoW about three years ago and I got my Orc Warrior to STV, what a nightmare that was. Ganking left and right, constant PVP battles everywhere. But hell, I fought back when able and occasionally us lowbies would band together and destroy the high level griefer. And when I got level 60 there was oh so sweet retribution, let's just say that many alliance died no matter what their level was. But after my bloodlust was quenched I would just roam around and kill alliance griefers and pretty much leave any alliance alone that weren't causing any problems. Consider this: playing on a PVP server is unpredictable, you don't know if someone will show mercy or cut you down where you stand. It's all up to the individual and I think it's very fitting considering how much hate there is between the Alliance and the Horde in the lore of warcraft.
It has nothing to do with kids or griefers. It is because the game mechanics allow it. Any finger pointing should be towards Blizzard for implementing PvP servers in this fashion. With all the other non-linear mechanics (ie how lowbie mobs can still hit and kill you) I find it inconsistent that they have not applied the same to PVP.
Conceptually, I do think that WoW world PvP is poorly done. If you are sitting on the PvP fence then I really suggest forgoing PvP servers. You can always duel and hit the battlegrounds and arenas on PvE servers. All you give up is the certainty of being ganked and the option of ganking others.
its called pvp. it happens, just deal with it or go to a PVE server.

Yup. Exactly what I typed.
I can't find where I said I don't like PvP. I just never saw the point of killing someone I can 1 hit kill. It is not "exciting" and if that makes you feel better you probably need to quit playing video games and go outside. The sun is good for your skin...
I guess when you get to school and tell all your friends that you killed 23 horde characters last night, maybe they give you props.

Im going off the subject here, but back then when you can actually loot corpse you really have nothing to lose...I mean sure you have to go back and buy a few reagents to cast spells or go and get a smithy to craft you a new set of armor and weapon, and THAT was the BEST part about UO...this game was NEVER meant to be materialistic, I was able to beat someone that was GM with swordsmanship skill USING a GM made staff with 70.0 skill in mace fighting and 100.0 skill in healing (using bandages) my staff tore his armor apart meaning he had no AC left and my healing skill kept me alive throughout the whole fight (of course i had to run around and wait till i got high enough HP's) but thats what PvP is all about SKILLS, not by your levels, and thats what made UO better than all the other MMO's out there that has PvP...But the way UO is now, you're gonna need all the top gears to win in PvP, this game became materialistic meaning armor weapons jewelry MATTERS in order to win in a fight...GM crafted armor and weapons couldnt get you far anymore, you needed the boos loot to get that advantage that edge over everyone else...
Ok sorry, Im trolling but some of you guys talked about UO, I loved it and had to say something about it, flame away now hahaha....

+1
If you were skillful in UO you could kill someone with higher skill levels.... Was quit fun actually. And 2 or 3 newbs with 50 mace and 50 tactics could kill a GM mage if they were good. 3 lvl 1s gonna have a chance at a lvl 70? Or hell even a level 20? WoW is fun but UO had PvP right
They added items because items = subscribers. Blizzard got that right. Gotta have something shiny to get at the next level!

I would partake in ganking every now and then in WoW. The reasons for doing it was mainly because they were simply in my way, testing abilities on players, or I just simply felt like doing it. The feeling I got from ganking lower level players was absolutely nothing to be honest. I didn't get any thrill from it, but I didn't feel bad about it either. Although I never corpse camped anyone unless it was someone my level that asked for it.
There are also two "good" reasons why I would gank players. One was to protect my friends and guild members while they hunted. I once mowed down two full groups of people for my cousin to hunt safely in Stromgarde, and this required me to kill their level 70 protection as well.
The second reason was to lure out level 70's with the intention to fight in world pvp. It's much easier to get the higher level players out if you attack a town like Southshore relentlessly. Although I would also actively look for high 60's or level 70's to gank in Outlands quite often, but I would also wait for them to finish whatever mob they were fighting at heal up. I never really was a fan of ganking them while they weren't looking.
Overall, that's my reasoning for ganking on a pvp server in WoW. I don't play any more, but if your curious I was a 70 Troll Shaman.
You'd have to have friends for that to happen...I'm just saying
