Is there a MMORPG that requires some kind of skill ?

Hi

Most mmos involve nothing but mindless "clicking on the monster" and leveling up. Maybe you'll use a few spells and healing potions.  Once that's done, you loot  and you gather ressources. Then you go home, you use your job to transform something and then sell it or wear it, either way, you're going back to click on a bigger, meaner monster wich doesn't seem bigger nor meaner because you've got sharper sword and a thiker armor.

The quests ? just a reason to kill. The guilds ? Just an group to belong to... for organized slaughter.

I'd like to know if there is a mmorpg that requires skill and/or talent. A game in wich your personal ability matters! A game where there is a challenge you can be proud of overcoming.

I hated WoW becaus it's cartoony, it's too slow, and ... just not impressive...too easy to optimize. Oh, you have to PAY for it EVERY month! (yes, I'm cheap)

Hellgate London isn't that bad. It's repetitive, but very dynamic. I love the first person option, and the guns! (I'm a fan of FPS games) but your shooting skills don't mattered at all!... . It sucks that it doesn't have more original quests, although the NPC's are very amusing. and the whole item system isn't very complex. There are no jobs and the only thing you can do, is kill.  It's like a very good Diablo. (btw, I didn't like diablo)

Enough of my ranting, is there a game out there that will satisfy me? Even if I believe that the craving for the totally unjustified sense of accomplishment your get from playing mmos is a sign of a terrible social problem... I still love mmos. I'd like to enjoy one, but they disapoint me.

Lets be  honest, what kind of skill are we talking about her? Who is more accurate and stable when moving a mouse...who can more effectively press the WASD buttons?  Really only so much "skill" that can be put into a game, sure at most a strategic use of ure special abilites/attacks, thats the most you can hope for.  As to that, any and all MMO's run pretty much the same strategy...specials, with and auto-attack system to fill in the gaps.  This is why i laugh when people claim skill, or that they play better than others....im mean goodjob u move a mouse better than anyone else playing...lets be honest, they are all the same, and will be so long as its mouse and board.

The only video games that require any kind of skill outside of moving a mouse and/or mashing buttons with your hands are dancing games, karaoke games, trivia games, and games on the Wii.

Yep, that's what I'm taking about. .... at least it's something!  It makes doings the quests fun. And actually..... it's quite a lot.  Aiming properly can take a lot of concentration, emulating enemies that are behind your back in order to doge whatever they are throwing at you without seeing it is intelectualy demanding.

There's got to be something a little like Zelda or Prince of Persia, where you have to dynamicly kill your ennemy. And if you're too slow or not agile enought, you get slaughtered!

HG:L has that dynamic gameplay, but you can't die if your character has some half decent weaponry, and if you're  somewhere you can't handle, you get killed in two seconds regardless of your best efforts.

Gunz is amusing thanks, but it's not complete mmorpg.

OK check Fury, pay to buy free 2 play...crappy reviews.  otherwise wait for AoC or Chronicles of Spellborn....those seem to be the only thing that have any kind of aim and hit kind of thing...well they are a lil more involved than that, but yeah, looks like ure in for a wait as far as i can recall.

Oddly enough, I find PlanetSide to require the most skill, while also being the most rewarding.

I'd recommend it, unless you're not into the Sci-fi genre.

Vendetta Online requires a lot of skill of combat between players. Its a space based mmo so you have to use multiple keys (QWERASDF +tab) in combat as well as have 4 combat styles to chose from (Auto Target+ Flight assist, No auto target + flight assist, auto target + no flight assist, or no auto target or no flight assist).

This makes combat very unique from person to person and creates a challenge in every skirmish. On top of that you have the ability to plugin a joystick and use it if you like (or two) so combat can be very varied. It takes skill and licenses (levels) to be a great fighter pilot but many suceed in it.
