Rumours of delay

LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

{ Mod Edit }

I have been waiting for so long for a MMO to play. Call me mad , but since WOW was released there was no serious production value / good MMO released , and this was 2004. I feel all this years i am waiting and waiting. A dedicated MMO player with nothing to play....

People say : " Let them take their time and release when the game is ready and polished."

Just  2 years of polishing is to much for me to wait....

Another delay is doubtful. They recently invited alot of major MMO media people to San Fransisco to play AoC, they held a contest to fly a fan to Oslo to play, and January will hold a "flood of information."

Yet, I still cannot help but be worried, I can't wait around forever.

No, it will be released in march.

And they need to have an open beta now. Cus I am really bored.

I'm being realist about the game.

If it's anything like AO, for first month it will be buggiest piece of software ever known to a mankind and after that it will shape out as award winning masterpiece.

Funcom has bad habit of first finetuning all features and leaving bug fixings almost to the end.

I think it really comes down to making sure to implement, test and debug the core of the system before opening the game itself to public testing. Hiring professional Q:A testing staff is important, and they do most of the hard work or should before the public closed beta begins.

I hope funcome takes this project a tad bit more seriously then they did with Anarchy Online, releasing a bug ridden nightmare will probably kill this game.

Even tho i will mostlikly be going to WAR when that does come out. i will be playing this for a while and i hope it is not delayed, I need a new MM and if AoC or WAR don't work out i quit MMOS forever or till SUN is released in the US

    Playing: Everthing
    Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.

I know where these rumors come from...

Some german gaming websites got a chance to review and play the game. They all complained about the many many bugs still in the game. The reviews where all not very possitive in the end. And concluded with the fact that a buginfested game like this could never be ready by the end of March.

Funcom responded with the fact that true beta didn't even start...it will start in Januarr...with a huge bughunt (so expect a lot more beta invites in Januarr) and they also responded to the unprofessianall attitude of the websites (Its still a beta build... and beta builds are not finall builds so there are still faults inthere)

In the end Funcom stated that whenever the game was not finished and smooth in March, they would delay the game without a seccond tought. But they are still confident that would not be neccesary at all.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

But do you guys think 3 months is enough for them to clear the bugs and roll the game? From reading this im not surprise than that they will push it another few months back. Even though im bored like you guys with no game to play now, i still hope they make AoC more polish before releasing it, else many will leave and the game will die, which is what i hate to see....

    RIP Orc Choppa

  • HengistHengist Member RarePosts: 1,316

I have no idea why Funcom does it, but if you read most of what goes on, when they show off the game they do it with an earlier build than what is current. Maybe they do it because it's more stable, or they have some other reason, I'm not going to speculate. I have no idea.

As far as the game having bugs, and needing 3 months to fix. Well, unless you are involved in beta, you dont really know what the bugs are, and then you are putting your eggs in the basket of whoever you heard it from. Sure you want to trust that someone? Is it itemization, NPC conversations, graphical glitches, classes not in yet, content not in yet, client far from optimized? There are just so many things that it could be, and some would be serious, and some not serious.

Hell, anyone who's ever done a beta can tell stories of how Patch 1 fixes 12 things, but breaks 4 things that were just fine before it, nature of the beast I suppose.

Frankly, I'll take the rumours of a delay with a very large grain of salt. If Funcom is going to push the date again, I think we'd know by the end of January, and we can speculate all we want over the next month, but we can look and see what info/video's get release, how many more beta invites get announced, and things like that.

Maybe Avery can give everyone a nice update once he's back from Oslo, and get's to see things first hand?

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

By than Avery will have job of community manager for AOC forums (he deserves it!)

I doubt he will reveal anything.

P.s... the rumour goes that 2 classes are still not implemented at all

Of corse all this might be a load of bull.

It is up to Funcom to decide what and when they put to beta tester hands. Maybe the beta version is very rough on purpose ?

    Rumours, speculations...

I just want to play AOC !!!

  • scougrescougre Member Posts: 36

The answer to why they show older builds is simple:

They don't want to discover new bugs when showing the game for a group of reporters or for a hall of 2000 people.

  • marmagmarmag Member UncommonPosts: 72

I really don't understand one thing!!

How could they take 10-15 days of holidays and they are only three months away from release day. The game must get gold status at the end of February.

Funcom knows for new delay, becouse they are act, like, there is no deathline on 25.march 2008.

I am only thinking about this scenario based on my 3 years of exsperiance.

    Give me that bloody game.

I am really boring atm playing tetris.

Well, as Vanguard experience taught us - Beta is there to generate publicity and not to fix anything.

If memory leaks and crashes are there at this point, they do NOT have enough time to fix them. It's doable, but not in 3 months.

Yeah I agree. I just didn't know I had to make it any clearer. There are still features missing as well, and I just don't see all of this getting fixed before March.

I want this game to be my new game, but it's going to need some more time for that to happen. On that note, what's the hurry? WAR? lol, I don't know anything about that game but I DO know, they are not in better shape than AOC is. Funcom has nothing to lose if they delay it further, guess we'll wait and see.

LOL, not want to sound like a fanboi, but the writer of this article is a {Mod Edit}. One of those guy i try to avoid to group with since years :)

First, all he has in mind is to compare with WOW. What is he ? A 12 year old boy or a journalist ?

Second the guy gets a lvl25 mage for half an hour to play and one look at the spellbook is enough to know a class ? Did he mention a deaggro spell ? Did he mention that his team where all noobs and the tank most probably didnt exactly know his class. LOL, they where all noobs attacking a mob without communication.

Lets hope those "journalists" stay with WoW forever.

Like i have stated before.  If the launch is postponded there must be a good reason for it.  GOD FORBID it launches like Vanguard.  I have very high expectations for this game and I want a fairly clean product when it launches.  Besides early 08 is when all the good PS3 games are coming out...... so a delay COULD be a good thing LMFAO.

BTW Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Indeed. Everyone goes on vacation and then a delay is announced.

We should know within the next three weeks if we are getting a major delay.

  • ABRaquelABRaquel Member UncommonPosts: 541

I'm just getting a bit tired of waiting.

Even though I support delaying a game, so that you can polish, tweak and improve, its still a let down every time they delay AoC. Been waiting for over a year (like many others) for the game to release.

I just hope the game releases polished and stable.

  • spbrookespbrooke Member Posts: 82

I must have this game!!  Too much waiting lol.  Although, the good side of it is that they do have more time to pollish up all the fine details.

It feels like a long time until March.  I have no MMO to play while I am waiting lol.  I have quit WoW, because I got so sick and tired of it.  So I am kind of stuck here with no MMO to play while I wait  :D

    Cant wait for AoC!!!

You do sound like a fanboi.

    1. God forbid you compare a mmo in development, to the most popular, successful, and well known mmorpg.

    2. Maybe he didn't mention a de-aggro spell, because he didn't have one?

    3. Yes he did mention the fact that they weren't a cohesive group.  The fact that the tank wasn't experienced should have been clear to anyone reading the article.

    4. No matter how much you want to hate him for not agreeing AoC is "teh uber", he made some valid complaints.  The PvE game being similar to every other game is a big thing.  He said PvP was fun, but similar to WSG(WoW battleground) and that they didn't get to experience the "unique", "promising" features.  It was very fair, honest opinion on what was shown to the game.

Unlike fanbois, they have to comment on what was shown, and how it performed, rather then what the game might have, and how it might be.

Another thing fanbois fail to mention, that the "big" raids, require actual players to be there.  Will there be that many people on each server at the same time for the big battles? nobody knows.

    ---

But as others have said, if they can make this game a fun experience, and make it a better state, then go ahead and delay it.

If the game is fun, and worth playing, i'll be here along with all the fanboys talking about the game positively, but unlike fanbois, i don't simply believe the game will be fantastic because the devs have said it's going to be.  It's why i believe darkfall is vaporware.  AO was one of the most unpleasant games when i played it, so i do not consider a company using AO as a reference to their credentials being that much promise.

Delay or not to delay?  Whatever makes the game better.
